Summary: ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Review: I originally attempted to buy a CyberHome portable dvd player from HSN. Because of a shipping snafu I missed out and was terribly disappointed. However, I wanted a reliable portable dvd player so I did my homework and chose the Panasonic-LV70. It was a little pricey for me (...) but I bought it anyway. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the portability, dependability, quality, etc. I had to purchase the headphones and a car adaptor (Cyberhome includes these items with their model) but from comparing the customer reviews of both units, and from what I now know firsthand, I sure made the right decision.

Summary: A Private World of Entertainment
Review: I purchased the Panasonic LV70 as a replacement for an older Panasonic L50 which recently died. So I guess the "WOW!" factor isn't quite so great for me but I am very well pleased with this unit. Without the battery it's about the size of a DVD case and feels very light. The battery adds bulk and considerable weight. but it was the battery life which sold me on this particular model.

For me, the 7" screen size is perfect! The 5" screen of the L50 was more than adequate for personal viewing, but the 7" size allows me to more easily share with a friend or to view the screen from a bedside table instead of having to hold it in my lap. The screen image is sharp and clear, but I think a fraction less sharp than the 5" size, so although I don't know for sure that the larger 9-10" size screen sizes would be even less sharp, I suspect that they would tend to be more pleasing only from an even greater distance.

The sound quality is first rate, even from the small speakers...far superior to the speakers on my old L50, which sounded tinny and didn't give much volume. These speakers sound just as good as any TV speakers and are plenty loud if you crank up the volume.

I own an iBook, which does very nicely play DVD's, so it might be difficult to justify the purchase of a dedicated DVD player on any basis other than absolute self indulgence, which I freely admit. But a laptop isn't something one can so easily carry around and battery time is way less than the almost 5 hours I get from the Panasonic.

I'm especially pleased with the little LCD display, which tells me exactly how many minutes have elapsed into the movie. The unit, although no more fragile than any other portable DVD player, is not something one would want to throw around or leave to the devices of small children! I am intrigued that it offers an ability to restrict access based on ratings because I would never trust it to the hands of a child who isn't old enough to watch an R rated movie.

I would suggest that you shop carefully for this model, if you decide that you want one, because the price range is huge from place to place. I recommend the Panasonic brand simply because they've been doing it longer than anybody else and they seem to really "have it right."

Summary: Great Player
Review: I read alot of reviews about portable DVD players when making my purchase, I also don't usually add reviews for products. However I am so satified with my portable DVD player purchase I had to share. After my research I was able to narrow it down to 2 different units, the Audiovox 1680 and the Panasonic dvd-lv70. I downloaded each user manual, read reviews and both sounded great. I saw my brother-in-law's Audiovox 5 inch DVD player and thought the picture was OK, but not great. So I decided to spend the extra dollars on the panasonic. I am very impressed. It is a great player. It can also do all different types of diplays when connected to a TV (which one review I read said it couldn't...it can). I prefer widescreen/letterbox on my 4:3 TV which it does and it switches diplay types easily. The unit has an awesome 16:9 screen which is visible from a very wide angle but even better, the unit has a true 5 hour battery. It ran all day in the car. We can easily do 3 short videos and then a full movie with power to spare. We had no issues being able to hear it in the car. It played all of our DVD's and only skipped twice on a 1500 mile road trip. If you don't have a case suitable for carrying 5 or 6 DVD's and the player, I would buy one when you purchase the unit...it makes it much more ergonomic...I used my video camera bag, which worked well.

Pros:
Great screen
True 5 hour battery
Good features/function
Small size
RCA TV cables included

Cons:
No remote controlled volume.
Doesn't come with a car power adapter

Summary: Let me count the qualities I like about this device
Review: I travel frequently on 3-4 hour flights and this device has saved me from the boredom of paperbacks and magazines while commuting from one coast to the other.

High marks:

* - Exceptionally great display. The 7" screen is wonderful for upclose or from a short distance. The colors are bright and the screen is sharp. I've noticed very little distortion

* - Lightweight and portable. I bought a caselogic case for it and can store the device, battery, charger, remote, cables and several dvds (using slimline cd cases).

* - Battery life. I get at least four solid hours with no problems. When the battery does go out it is sudden and immediate, no gradual loss of power or noticable artifacts. The battery is a healthy lithium ion that allows you to re-charge between connecting flights with no fear of harming the battery life.

* - Excellent controls. Once you learn them, you can operate this unit in the dark with no problems. It allows you to manipulate many things, including screen size and audio options.

* - Great sound. The stereo speakers work terrific and are more than adequate for personal listening. In the air I use noise cancelling earphones and get completely lost in the film (when I am able to stay awake). Another great option is to use an external speaker system (try the same ones you use with your desktop). My wife and I keep it with us on vacations, subwoofer and all.

* - Usability. Not only is this a terrific portable, you can also use it as a source for your television. It is Dolby 5.1 compliant and does a great job, remote control and all.

* - Coolness. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions when you break this player out. I've had stewardresses sit down and watch Rocky with me, and often notice people standing in the isle just to admire the display.

a) The picture is sharper than a laptop, much more reliable and has better sound (even optical out!). It is lighter and takes up half the space. I travel light and never check bags, so this means a lot to me.

Downsides?

None that I can honestly consider a real problem. A few reviews back I notice someone complained about the 7" screen being too big...FYI: the 5" screen uses the same case, it just has more plastic to fill in the difference.

Summary: Great for road warriors and travels with kids
Review: I've had my LV-70 now for about 2 years and this is one of those rare electronics products that goes above and beyond.

First, let me say that the viewing experience is excellent, in fact the brightness and clarity of images on the 7" screen are better than on my decent 32" Sony Trinitron and JVC home DVD player. Even though my laptop has a DVD player and a 12" screen, the brightness and resolution are far lower, so my LV-70 is still my preferred portable solution.

Second, the portability is wonderful...I have used my player extensively while traveling and NOTHING makes a long plane trip go by faster. I get about 4 hours out of my battery and even on 10 hour flights, that is about all I want to watch. It is small and lite enough for me to place in my briefcase and take anywhere. Also, though I never watch much of the extras on a DVD at home, I really enjoy them on the road.

Last, it is robust, I have banged mine around quite a bit and despite a number of scratches, it still works perfectly. I even use it on my sailboat frequently and the harsh marine environment has not affected it one bit.

Summary: IF YOU CAN'T FIND A CARRY CASE FOR YOUR PANASONIC DVD PLAYER
Review: I've read articles where people are having difficulty locating a carry case for the larger DVD players. I have the Panasonic DVD-LV70 and obtained a carry case from Panasonic, that will fit and carry the DVD-LV95, with plenty of room to spare. You can find it at ...abtelectronics... This case has plenty of protection and accessory space. Get one, you won't be sorry.

Summary: Love this little thing!
Review: Just used mine on our first trip. Used it on a plane, sitting in bed, and in the car. Got through 3 movies on one charge. That is really the key advantage of this particular player - battery life. I definitely got the 5 hours out of mine. Other 7" players are more like 3 hours. Can easily be watched by 2 people comfortably, e.g. sitting in captain's chairs in a minivan with the player in between the front seats. For car use, we bought an "inverter" which turns the cig lighter into an outlet. Way cheaper than the custom plug.

Summary: Great Product
Review: Nice package put together by Panasonic--AMAZING battery life compared to other portable out there.. . I watched "Braveheart" and "Lord of the Rings" back to back with battery to spare. . .

I recommedn it highly, along with Panasonic noise cancelling headphones (don;t remember the p/n for the headphones)

Way to go Panasonic!

Summary: Easy to use!
Review: Right out of the box, this portable DVD player lived up to all the positive reviews I had read. I unwrapped it, plugged in the AC adapter, put in a DVD, and there was a beautiful picture and sound. No fiddling with settings. The controls on the unit (and remote) are the same as those on any home DVD player, so there is no learning curve with regard to that.

The battery slips under the unit with ease, and it was fully charged in about five hours.

I can think of nothing negative to say. The 7-inch screen provides a great show for those on the go. My kids are going to be thrilled when we take our first long car trip!
