Summary: Perfect for smaller rooms
Review: I decided to take a chance with the Samsung and save a lot of money. I also doubt I'll be in my small condo for more than a few years so why spend $900 on something I'll probably want to replace in a few years anyway.
Positives: The sound is great with plenty of thump from the sub, satellites look good, DVDs look amazing on my Sony HDTV and the 5-disc changer comes in handy with a NetFlix account. I replaced a nice Sony system with this and the sound is just as good. I have a 12x12 living room with hardwoods and I have had to turn it up higher than my old STR component but I have never needed more than 75%.
Negatives: The unit did overheat after about 2 hours of watching the first movie so I just cut a larger hole in the cardboard in the back of my TV stand and haven't had a problem since. The blue light around the volume is annoying if you want to watch a movie with all the lights off but the remote has a dimmer button where you can turn down the intensity of the light or off completely. My only complaint about this is that it always turns on with the light on full intensity no matter what state it was in when you turned off the receiver. My biggest complaint is the connectors you must use to connect the speakers to the receiver. I already had Monster Cable run so I just stripped and crimped the wires just before the connector but I would have much rather just run my wires directly into the receiver.
Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to get a great product at a great price for a small to medium sized room. The cost savings are well worth the few complaints I have above and I'm not even sure I'll try to replace it if I move into a larger place. A true audiophile may be able to point out negatives in the sound quality but I haven't heard anything that I didn't like.

Summary: This system is crap
Review: I got it as a gift a few months ago and, at first, everything was fine. Then it started freezing on one DVD after another. It began with LoTR, then the Princess Bride, then occasionally on LoTR:TT and now on HBO's Band of Brothers. The DVDs play without a problem on other DVD players. The system still has a few months of warranty left so I will try talking to Samsung. But given some of the online comments I've read, it appears to me they will want me to ship, at my expense, a 55lb DVD player.

Summary: Great starter system
Review: I got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and it's a terrific starter home theater system. Set-up was fairly easy, the sound quality is great, and we've had no troubles with anything overheating (knock on wood) or being defecetive in any way. The one question we had was easily answered by Samsung customer service. Really a great deal for the price.

Summary: A bargain when I got it, but newer models may be better
Review: I got this system about eight months ago and I have been very pleased with it. I do have a few complaints about it, however. My first complaint is the horrible remote, which never becomes intuitive no matter how much you use it. The chapter skip buttons and the fast forward buttons are one in the same. To fast forward you have to hold the chapter skip button for a few seconds. If you don't hold it long enough, you end up skipping a chapter when you simply wanted to fast forward. The fast forwarding, however, is very good, allowing up to 32x normal play speed.
Another complaint I have is the optical input. I had read that the sound lags behind the video, and I was dismayed to discover it was true. It can be very severe, like a couple of seconds. Then I discovered a way to correct it. All you have to do is pause and unpause the input source, and they will be synched. I tested this by connecting my PS2 and used it as a DVD player. The Samsung lost synch when starting a movie or skipping chapters, but after one pause and unpause of the PS2, remained perfectly synchronized.
Another complaint I have is that the rear channel sound during Dolby ProLogic II surround playback is too low in volume. You can edit the sound, though, to increase the volume to the rear speakers, and the unit remembers these values after it is turned off. I also found the Dolby Prologic II mode to be useless for anything but video games (which is what I use it for - and it is great). It makes music and tv sound like crap, so don't go out of your way to get Dolby Prologic II support if you don't intend to use it for gaming.
Even though I have some complaints about this system, I am still glad that I bought it, especially for the price that I paid; however, a lot has changed in the past eight months and many other players are offering similar features in this price range. This player is good, but it is not so good that you would not want to seriously investigate other buying options.

Summary: Very cool system at a great Price!
Review: I have had this system for a couple weeks now and am loving it!
This was a very easy hookup, I didnt even have to read the directions. The sound is amazing, the picture is amazing and the price/performance ratio is amazing! There are 2 things that the reviewer before mne had said, 1 I do agree with, the other I do not. There is infact a fast forward feature! You have to hold the chapter skip button down!!! I do agree that the remote not have a glow feature is annoying, considering I watch the movies in the dark.

Summary: Pretty good system for the price
Review: Samsung seems to have done the job with this system. Plenty of power going through the speakers for a bedroom-size area, although I was close to having it turned up all the way when I was watching my Family Guy DVD's... it did a great job with my movie DVD's like Ocean's Eleven and Pirates of the Carribean and with my Gamecube and Xbox. Soundwise, the system is great. 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II makes everything I hook up to it sound crystal clear and gorgeous. It's almost as though my ears are throwing a little party... it's just that good. The system also comes with a 5-disc DVD changer. Working great for me so far, I haven't had a single skip or anything. Although I have come to the conclusion that the screen is flickering a little (I'm using normal composite video hook-ups), and it is not my TV, because my Xbox does not have this problem. I've turned down the brightness on my TV and the flickering is not quite as noticeable, but it is still there. I'm just very technical about these sorts of things... Picture-wise, I'm going to have to say that my Xbox puts out a more clear picture for DVD's, but my Xbox doesn't have to control power over speakers while it puts out the picture. So it's understandable with the DB600. Perhaps the DB600 just isn't getting enough power, I don't know. In conclusion, the DB600 is a great system for a small budget. It puts out sound like a pro, as long as you don't need to fill an entire living room with sound. It's perfect for a bedroom, which is what I am currently using it for. Don't buy this system for the DVD player... as it is only adequate. But don't be disheartened by that, as the sound quality makes up for it in a heartbeart. I have currently owned this system for a week. Noticing all the problems that have been reported by other users, I will make sure to write an updated review later in my ownership. Summary: Good value system
Review: This is a very good system for the price. The sound quality is pretty good and the dvd player is top notch. Hook up was very easy and and system comes with easy to install wiring.
The manual is pretty weak so be prepared to learn the system on your own by trial and error.
There are certainly better sounding systems out there but you won't find them in this price range. This is a very good value.

Summary: Superb Performance vs. Value HTIB
Review: This is my first Home theatre system so I can't really make a justified comparison with other system but as far as I can hear, the sound quality are very good, the thumping of the bass mixed very well with the satellites... the additional features, including Dolby Pro Logic 2 that are still rare in this price range, are exceptional... I don't know why people are complaining about the remote control, I think the button are intuitively placed and if you're like most people that 90% used your rc to change channel and access menu, chances are in a month or so you'd remember where the buttons are (and this also eliminates the complaint that says there are no control button on the DVD/Receiver it self... let's be honest nobody really get out of their couch to tamper with those button... very few of us do) Now the bad... the sound output IS limited to headphone plug... And all the bad reviews that this system got... In all the sites that contains this system's review almost 50% complaint about faults within the first warranty year... and the fact that you can't find ANY information on this system on Samsung website is a definite sign that this system IS troublesome (It's a new system, while samsung has some older system still being supported on their site)... Luckily so far I have no problem at all with my system So I guess when you decide to buy this system, even though it is a very good one for the price, in the end you really have to ask yourself if you're feeling lucky :-)

Summary: Whadda ya want for $250???
Review: This is my first home theatre system. I found it at Sam's Club for $250 and I think it is worth the money. I bought it for the bedroom to match with the Samsung 22" LCD HD LT-P227W which is a great LCD midsize TV...the price on the TV has dropped, of course, about 400 bux since I got it Summer 2004. (Originally $1750 at Circuit City and they really screwed around getting it to me). Dimwits. Plus the TV takes a special wall mount that will run you 90 dollars. Enough about the TV.
I like the system. Sure, I'd rather have a $2500 Bose system but decided that for now, $250 ( a tenth of the $$$) is worth the "risk". The system, as noted above in others comments, is quite heavy in the box. The subwoofer seems substandard but the satellite speakers are solid and can crank Pearl Jam DVDs at a LOUD level. The center channel speaker is not great but there are a lot of options for the sound settings...ProLogic, PLII, Cinema, Music, Matrix sound, Stereo.
When a subwoofer costs $300, how can you go wrong spending $250 on this system? I don't much like multiple DVD changers but this one is really compact in height if overly deep. Sits on the dresser just fine - low profile. I would say it probably does better in a bedroom than in a den/living room theatre setup.
Someday I'll get a HUGE LCD or plasma TV and a full home theatre system, bought piece by piece - an Onkyo A/V receiver with 6.1 or 7.1, 200x6 watts, four/five nicely matched speakers, a great center channel speaker, and a powered subwoofer and tie it all together to the home PC. Pricing such a system got me to $1500+. But TODAY this $250 system fits my needs.
The newer model comes with wireless rear speakers which I couldn't care less about. I had been looking at a $500 Sony home theatre at Wal-Mart, and it (Sony) sounded a LOT worse (in the store, admittedly). This was very much an impluse buy but for the money it is good.
I have been an audio nut since the mid seventies and have seen them all...quadrophonic sound, a ton of Bose speakers, DAT, nine different Pioneer receivers in a single product line, Dolby 1 and 2, even had a in dash car stereo with a CB (1976, of course).
Audio/video products come and go and this one will go to the kid one day. It does JUST fine for now and keeps the wife happy watching her Netflix movies while I'm working second shift. Hey, if Mama's happy, we're ALL happy!!

Summary: Beware 5 disc players
Review: This system worked great for a couple months. Then it started having trouble loading, reading, and playing discs. Finally , about a year later it won't play anything at all. There is a physical problem with the changer that actually puts scratches on the discs because it can't load properly. I've ruined a couple brand new discs. I've seen similar problems with other multi-disc players, so now I will only get single disc players.
