Summary: STUNNING
Review: ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS LIGHTWEIGHT SKINNY BLACK ... DVD PLAYER IS AMAZING. IT PLAYS EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN WITH PERFECTION. THE SOUND QUALITY TRAVELED THROUGHOUT OUR HOUSE. MY SON PUT IN SOME OF HIS G.I. JOE CARTOONS HE GOT AT A CONVENTION AND THE QUALITY LOOKED AMAZING COMPARED TO HIS $300.00 JVC. DON'T SLEEP ON THIS PLAYER BECAUSE IT'S CHEAP. IT'S BETTER THAN ANY SONY OR ... APEX>

Summary: LOSER
Review: Do not be tricked by the low cost on this one. Unit does not play Disney DVDs and other titles look pretty bad on my Sony Grand Vega.

Summary: What A Deal!
Review: Doesn't JVC understand that they cannot afford to sell an incredible dvd player for under $90.00--especially when it out performs a $280.00 top brand name dvd player. MY family gave this baby the full test: DVD movies, Audio CDs, CD-R audio, CD-R video slide shows, CD-R jpegs, and the ultimate -- An original collector's edition DVD movie that would breakup every time on our $280.00 DVD player (it played flawlessly with the JVC). Needless to say, the JVC XV-N40BK is now hooked up to our home entertainment system & the "expensive" model is headed to Ebay! Don't take my word, check what Consumer Reports says about this machine!

Summary: Great stylish DVD player
Review: Don't know where all the good reviews went. I read a whole bunch that sold me on this machine .... convinced me this was the machine for me and I haven't been disappointed. It is very compatible, reading my DVD-R, DVD-RW, VCD, and CD formats. It also apparently reads a lot more. Stylish, functional, very fast initial read of disc, excellent zoom, with a hand fitting functional remote. I compared it to comparable Pioneer and Panasonic models before I bought. (Let's face it though, most of the latest DVD players are excellent compared to even models just 2 years old.) This player actually is cool to the touch when running (compare this to some of the heat related malfunctions mentioned for other players)! I hope this tides me over until the DVD recordables are in the same price range!
Update: Read the December 2003 issue of the consumer magazine (you know which one) for a comparison of DVD players. This one received the top rating!

Summary: Best Buy!
Review: For those not wanting to spend $300 on multiple DVD players, this little single unit is the proverbial sh*t. Set up took all of 2 minutes and then I was into my first DVD. Gorgeous picture, intuitive functions and a complete remote round out this fine example of a single player unit. Couldn't be happier. Bonus... it plays jpeg picture CD's... which to a digital photo happy family like us, is awesome.

Summary: QUALITY STINKS AND SO DOES JVC CUSTOMER SERVICE
Review: Had problems with the unit and did not want to send it back to Amazon. Called JVC customer service and received the total run around. On hold for 30 minutes and when the rep finally got on the phone, they were useless. Finally at my end, sent it back to the folks at Amazon and they were the pros. Great work Amazon......Terrible job JVC.

Summary: A lot of features in a slim package
Review: Hello All,

I just purchased this item as a replacement for a Cyberhome 1500 and a Daewoo DVP480 both of which went belly-up after just ONE DAY! I read the reviews posted here as well as checked elsewhere on the internet, which helped me narrow my choices down to this unit or one manufactured by Philips. When all was said and done, I purchased the JVC because of the features for the price.

I've had a chance to play with the unit now and everything works great! The picture is so crisp and clear it's as though you are actually in whatever it is you're watching. The sound is also fantastic when pumped though my Sony sound system. One more thing, perhaps it's not a big deal to most but this unit has one of the most comfortable remotes out of any DVD players I've seen and the player has a 1 YEAR warranty which MOST players these days DO NOT HAVE!! All this combines for a really nice DVD player at a reasonable cost.

Ciao!
