Summary: Singing Samsung's Praises
Review: I just bought this Samsung DVD player to accompany my new HDTV - I was specifically shopping for an affordable Progressive Scan DVD player (as the progressive scan players are supposed to look AWESOME on HDTV). Another feature I really needed was a headphone jack - and when you add that to your "wants" list, the number of Progressive Scan players with a headphone jack dwindles.

So, after doing a lot of online research, I decided this Samsung model met all of my needs - including the headphone jack!

After using it for a few days, I am happy with my purchase. My DVDs look incredible on my HDTV. I have been putting in each DVD I own and checking out the amazing quality, detail, and color. The Samsung player is sleek, and easy to use. I had no problems hooking it up to the TV. The menu options are pretty intuitive, in my opinion, and having owned an RCA DVD player before, not much different.

My one complaint (not a big one) is the remote controls. You get two. The first one has all the buttons you would expect. The second is small, with just a few buttons. At first, I would have assumed that I would be using the smaller remote - so much more simpler and fits in the palm of your hand!

The first remote (with all the buttons) has a toggle button to navigate menus with. The toggle button doesn't work that well. I prefer the up-down-left-right buttons (which are on the second, smaller remote!) So, I have found myself pressing buttons on the first remote, then switching over to the second remote to navigate the menus.

The remotes, therefore, aren't that great.

I have also found that the Samsung will play all of the audio discs my friends burn for me - my old RCA player wouldn't do this. Sometimes, the Samsung gets confused by the formats and may take a few extra seconds to load. I have also noticed that it tends to ignore "blank" space between tracks. So when you're listening to an audio cd, the tracks play RIGHT AFTER EACH OTHER WITH NO SPACE IN BETWEEN. Again, not a horrible problem, but kind of weird.

I'm sticking with my Samsung, though. I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. And, one has to weigh price/functionality as well. For the price, I think I got a great deal.

Review: I purchased my DVD player last Christmas and shortly after I as well as my friends all noticed that the picture is to dark, in particular when there is a dark image It is instead all black... A week later I got the unit returned to me stating that there was no problem with my unit... The unit is also now missing screws...

Review: I purchased this DVD mainly because of the memory stick, it was the only DVD player I found with this feature. You can forget about getting this DVD for play back of your pictures unless you shoot them at 1 mega pixal. I have a 5 mega pixal camera and it's worthless, second it won't play VCD's my old DVD player could even do that and it's 2 years old. This dog is going back tomorrow even the progressive scan feature pretty much [...]. I'm guessing the other people didn't push this unit to the limit, or maybe I'm asking to much of it?

Summary: Wow!
Review: Only one word can describe this player: Wow!

Samsung has taken a major leap forward with its latest generation of DVD players. The user interface and styling are a huge improvement over all of the old Samsung products, and the video quality is absolutely superb, especially on progressive scan! The only fault I could find (and I really had to dig, here) is the remote control... it isn't really so bad, but I think Samsung could do a little better and make a remote that looks and feels a little more up-to-date. Maybe this is compensated a bit by the second "baby" remote, which comes in handy sometimes. Response to commands seems about average - not ultra-fast, but not slow either, and it hasn't had any problems reading any of the many various discs I've put through it so far. I haven't yet had a chance to test the memory stick, but the other features are nice... mp3 playback, photo CD (it's a bit slow to display pictures) etc. Of course, these are just the "side-attractions", so I can't complain about what trivial shortcomings there are. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this excellent player!

If you're currently looking at the current crop of competition such as the Sony players, I highly recommend you take the time to look at this one too. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what kind of features and performance you can get at such a low price these days. I did a lot of researching and testing to find the right player (thanks FutureSwap ;-), and it really showed just how much more advanced the new Samsung players are than those cut-throat corner-cutting bottom-end models. Sure, there are cheaper players with similar features, but the difference is all in the execution. The graphics, menu system, sound quality, and especially progressive-scan video quality were consistently better than all of them, even outperforming some of the higher-end units like the Philips with Faroudja's "DCDi" chip (which is supposed to be one of the best progressive scan de-interlacers) and also the Toshiba models... a *very* impressive performance at this price! If you're looking at the cheaper models, do yourself a favour and spend the extra few dollars to get one of the Samsung units - I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Sony had better be careful... the Samsung stuff just keeps getting better and better, and this last generation is serious competition!

Review: Overall, this is a good product. But my problem is that mine is defective. I bought it at BestBuy with the 3 year protection plan. I have returned it once because it skips chapters on my DVDs randomly. I try the same discs on my Xbox and they work just fine. So, I am playing the lets see if they can fix it game. Other than that, the features are great. Two remotes is also a plus. I just hope they can fix it or just give me another one.

Review: PROBABLY SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE ME. I HAD RESEARCHED ALL KIND OF DVD PLAYERS INDLUDING SONY, JVC, PHILIPS, FOR OVER A MONTH. FINALLY I GOT THIS SAMSUNG.
THE SCREEN QUALITY IS JUST AWESOME, EVEN BETTER THAN SOME VERY HIGHER PRICED ONES. AND IT DIDN'T HAVE NOISE LIKE OTHERS. AS SOON AS I HOOKED IT UP (WHICH IS VERY SIMPLE), I PLAYED IT AROUND, CHECKING EVERY FUNCTION I COULD FIND OUT. EVERY THING WORKS JUST MARVELOUSLY! YOU GOT TO SEE WHAT IT CAN DO WITH PROGRESSIVE SCAN THING!
WHAT CAN I SAY?

I AM TOTALLY SATISFIED!

IT WAS DEFINITELY WORTHY TO SPEND OVER A MONTH!

Review: Progressive scan never worked correctly from day one. Didn't want
to get into shipping back and forth to the repair center, so bought a
Panasonic replacement (that works perfectly) and threw
the Samsung unit in with my soup cans and bottles for recycling.
Never again Samsung, ... never again ...

Summary: Samsung P721 : Definite Buy !!
Review: Samsung P721 DVD Player has once again proved the technical creativity/competance of Samsung as a Consumer Electronics leader.
This player has a very unique feature set that complies with the conventional DVD feature set and add several next generation features that are bridging the gap between PC's and consumer electronic boxes. The P721 offers superior Progressive scan output and supports DVD/CD-DA/CD-R/MP3/VCD formats and has added support for Memory stick interface.
There are no other DVD models with support for memory stick. With this player, you can simply insert a memory stick from a digital camera and view thumbnails or full screen images on your TV set that is hooked to the P721. Additionally, you can copy MP3 files on a memory stick using a PC and the P721 will decode the files on the Memory stick and plays them back with perfection!.
The GUI on this player is totally superb and very simple to follow thru. Overall the player has more to offer when compared to other players that are in the same price range.
