Summary: Works great, plays VCD, and all formats
Review: I purchased the JVC XV-N50BK DVD Player which plays all formats, including my below mentioned VCD, without any problems. I am very happy with the JVC XV-N50BK, and this is the best in the market. Incidently all my other AV components and TV are JVC, and which can all be linked and interconnected with the JVC Compu-Link control system.
Previously ten days before, I purchased the Panasonic S35S DVD Player because I needed a player to play ALL formats including VCD, WMA, MP3, CD-R, etc. Unfortunately, when playing one of my commercially produced VCD's, the Panasonic S35S Player would play for awhile, and then lock and freeze the screen forever, until I turned off the power. And the Panasonic kept on doing it, repeatedly. Sadly I returned the Panasonic for a full refund. (The VCD was not defective, because it plays fine on my older JVC player, and on my computer.). I then purchased the above JVC XV-N50BK DVD Player which plays everything, works great, and looks fabulous.

Summary: Leaves bad taste in mouth for JVC products.
Review: Bought this DVD player in May and was very happy with it until about 1 mo after it when it stopped playing CD's and VCD's. It still plays DVD's, however. It's features are great and it's look is nice too. When writing to JVC, received bad customer service. Will never buy JVC products again. Also, I encourage all of you to look hard and buy from a place like Circuit City and Best Buy with ESP plan to protect item.

Summary: It's REALLY slim, yet feature packed
Review: I can't get over how thin this player is. It replaced my dependable 1988 JVC CD player and is 1/3 the height. I'm pleased that JVC still supports "Compu-Link" which allows this player to interact with the rest of my JVC stereo system.

As for the features, I love the feature that lets you stop the DVD movie and pop it back in later to automatically continue where you left off. The Zoom feature let's you remove the letterbox bands. It's easy to configure the settings and the blue glow is cool.

My first real stereo rack system was JVC in 1988 and it still works perfectly. This DVD player is great and I hope it lasts just as long. I think JVC makes quality products.

Summary: Great little player
Review: I bought this player to replace an older Toshiba and an audiologic. I have tested this with 6 brands of DVD-R discs and one DVD+RW disc as well as various CDR's and it has worked without a hitch on everything. There are only two complaints that I have about this player so far that keeps it from a 5 stars in my eyes. First, it won't play mp3's that are put onto DVD's. I tried a $50 apex player and it did them fine. Second, when playing VCD's it says PBC in the display window and won't display the countdown timer like it does with DVD's. I really like to see how far I am into a movie. Aside from those two things it has been a great player and I only wish my TV would handle progressive scan. Oh, when they say slim, they mean slim. The thing is hardly taller than a VHS tape.

Review: After minimal use, it won't play a thing!

Summary: Great DVD player and very stylish too
Review: I've had this player for about a year now and I love it. It plays all kinds of stuff I burn on CDR's in a bunch of different formats. My brother in law copied a football game for me from his digital camera to his PC, then sent it to me. It was only about 350x400dpi so I figured it would look pretty poor on TV but it looked great! Very surprising. If this one dies, I'll just go buy another one to replace it. Everything I've ever owned by JVC has lasted for years, so I expect this to be no different. Cheers!

Summary: Busted after the warranty ran out
Review: Just after the one year warranty was up, it stopped working. A service rep. at the JVC 800# in Sri Lanka wouldn't help. Dissapointing.

Review: I bought this unit as a temporary unit until I ordered a Denon that was backordered. Well, I canceled my Denon order since this unit has worked so well. It plays every DVD without problems and the picture quality it produces is unbelieveable for a player of this price range. It loads DVDs fairly quick and options/settings that it has are usually found on high-end models. I'm able to tell the bit rate of the movie (which is important to me) as well as how much time is remaining with a simple click. Also, you can customize picture/contrast settings independently of your TV picture/contrast settings. For the price, you can't go wrong with this unit. Good job JVC !

Summary: 6 months and still loving it.
Review: Was surprised to see the negatives regarding stutter on this machine. I have about 500 DVD's in my collection, including some VCD's, and DVD's I have burned myself and have not notices any instances of stutter. Am also curious regarding the remark that it stutters when it pans, since the DVD player is just decoding data...and not "panning" anything.

The positives regarding this machine are numerous. It will play disks that will not play on my computer. It's error correction is excellent. The main reason I bought this machine was so that I could play VCD's, CD-R, and DVD+R disks. And it doesn't disappoint. The remote is set up well. There was a previous negative comment that the buttons were too far apart. Personally, I view this as a positive because you can actually use it in the dark because the are far enough apart that you can actually press the right button (one you figure out the pattern that is). The only negative I can see is that the DVD carrying tray itself seems quite flimsy. I can see a pair of little hands snapping it off in a heartbeat! Those of you with small children beware!

Summary: Power Supply Busted - Needs service after 4 months!
Review: This is the best dvd player I have had. before this player, I have had a Sony and Proscan, and both never worked with all dvds. Especially Indian movies would get stuck almost all the time half way through. This JVC player has not given me any problems whatsoever. Also the picture quality is the best among any players that I have seen, costing triple of the price I paid for this player.
