Description:

Harman Kardon's high-performance DVD 22 makes it easier than ever to enjoy your favorite movies, music, and digital photos from the comfort of your living room. In addition to compatibility with DVD-Video, the DVD 22 can play MP3 and WMA CDs, DVD-R/-RWs, DVD+R/-RWs, and multisession CD-ROMs, as well as recordable CDs filled with JPEG image files. Its enhanced versatility extends to the its program play, random play, and repeat play modes, which function with all discs, including MP3/WMA CDs. Additionally, the DVD 22 includes a host of picture-search and convenience functions.

The DVD 22's Harman-exclusive navigational interface provides ready access to favorite DVD titles and chapters, CD tracks, and WMA and MP3 files and folders via an intuitive onscreen menu. The player can also simultaneously play MP3 tracks and JPEG images, automatically changing images with each MP3 track played in slideshow presentations.

The DVD 22 achieves a remarkable new level of progressive-scan video playback quality when used with a high-definition or HD-ready television or display, thanks to digital pixel-by-pixel processing. This processing upconverts images to progressive-scan one pixel at a time, rather than one line at a time, as conventional DVD players do. The pixel-by-pixel reconstruction is accomplished by an integrated digital signal processor that provides smoother, more realistic images with exceptional detail and contrast relative to standard progressive-scan performance.

The DVD 22 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Three picture-zoom settings with panning capability and parental locks round out the video features.

Audiophile-grade 24-bit/192 kHz audio digital-to-analog converters ensure the highest possible fidelity and resolution, and the player uses premium-quality internal components in the audio signal path.

The player includes both progressive-scan and interlaced component-video outputs, available simultaneously with S-video and composite-video playback. Audio outputs include coaxial and optical digital and stereo analog, plus a headphone jack with a dedicated level control for private listening. The player comes with a backlit, ergonomically designed remote control.

Ultraslim, with a gloss-black upper panel, silver lower panel, blue dot-matrix display, and a minimum of visible controls, the DVD 22 cuts a striking picture. Its low height lets you place it virtually anywhere, including on the thin glass shelves used in many contemporary equipment racks and TV stands, or atop a receiver, where cabinet space may be limited. The player's styling matches Harman Kardon's receivers, speakers, and other AV components.
