4. Panasonic SC-HT700 After much research on all three. The Panasonic HT900 seemed to be the best choice, since that had progressive scan, 600 watts, a 5 disc changer, and great reviews on amazon, epinions, ask jeeves, and every other website. But for [the price] it was a good deal. I did not like the tower speakers when I looked at them for myself... They were made of cheap plastic and most of the tower was useless. They were lightweight and were easily toppled (especially if you have pets or kids). The Bose had a lot of system bugs still encountered by many buyers. Bose DID NOT have progressive scan and not a true surround sound and the price was way HIGH ... I did not see a lot of good reviews on the Bose. Also no disc changer. The Sony at first was my top choice since I knew the quality in their Trinitron TV's and because I owned an older Dream System that was great. But once again for [the price], this did not have the 5 disc changer. Finally I checked out the little brother of the Panasonic HT-900 the HT-700. The only difference is that this system does not have the speaker towers. Instead they have the modular satellite speakers. Also at $300 it was cheaper and had all the features of the HT-900 such as the 5 disc changer, 600 watts, progressive scan, etc. I decided to buy this one. BOTTOMLINE: This was a GREAT and ECONOMICAL PURCHASE. The sound is crystal clear, the subwoofer has active bass, and the satellite speakers give true 5.1 surround sound. I cannot rave enough of this HT-700 system. Save your money and buy this sytem instead and spend the extra $$$ on DVD's, CD's, and the component cables instead. But don't take my word on this. Summary: Perfect, well almost ........
Review: During my research for a reasonable home theater system i found that this HT 700 is the best selling and highest recommended system on amazon.com is. I read all the reveiws and decided that it is the kind of middle-class system is that I would need. First the good: the system comes with everything you need and set up is straight forward and simple until you get to actually using the system first. The challenges: First, you really have to learn and closely read the manual to master all the options crammed into that little remote. Don't put that manual too far away. I am sure you will need it again for reference a few times after first learning how to use the system. Next and this is IMPORTANT !!! Earlier reveiws ahve mentioned that the HT700 is the same as the HT900, just with smaller speakers. THAT IS NOT TRUE and in between all the different smaller differences, there is one big one (at least for me) that I wish I would have known and which may have made me rather purchase the HT900 system: The HT 900 can decode Dolby Surround sound from satellite transmissions and from DVDs, the HT700 can only decode Dolby Surround sound from DVDs. So, all my DirecTV shows that I TiVo are not played back with surround sound.......the HT 900 CAN DOD THIS !! Other the differences are rather minor.more power in the HT900, but the HT700 has anyway enough power for me.......in general, I would have expected maybe a little more sound from this system. Don't get me wrong it is not disappointing, but a little more I did expect. For the price it is probably one of the best systems you can get.

Summary: Buyer beware
Review: If you purchase this product, I hope you are completely satisfied. It is my opinion that the reliability of Panasonic products has slipped in recent years, and this was confirmed to me when a product I purchased quickly failed. The reason I'm posting this is to warn you that the warranty that accompanies Panasonic products only has value if the company chooses to stand behind it. In my case, they weaseled out of it, leaving me with a total loss and no further recourse. Good luck with your decision.

Summary: Great Sound, nice to look at
Review: I have had this sytem for about two weeks. It is my first home theater system and let me first say that the difference from a traditional TV set with speakers is incredible. The subwoofer is just enough for my room which is 19 x 14. The speakers, which have to be displayed around the room are nice looking and can fit on a wall without being noticed. The remote has a lot of features many of which I may never use. It took me about 5 hours to set everything up and that included running the speaker wire under some baseboards. They give you a lot of wires and verything fit nicely. I am very pleased.

Summary: Powerful, Sleek & Easy
Review: We bought this Home Theatre as a gift for us, the entire family, for Christmas. This is our first Home Theatre and from the sound, look and functions that it has, this is one Amazing System. Packaging: Everything is packed very neatly with the DVD/Reciver, the Subwoofer and the 5 Surround Speakers organized in the whole box. Setup: It didn't take that long too setup everything. The manual was there and it was very clear at explaining what needs to go where. Note that the AC cord connects to the subwoofer and onto the wall outlet. When I was seting up I only opened the DVD/Reciver, only to find out that I needed to open the Subwoofer also, since there is no AC plug on the DVD/Reciver itself. This is the same with the 5 Surround Speakers. The Audio wires are included, in the system, and I noticed that the wires connect to the back of the Subwoofer. Overall, while I wanted to get the setup done to watch my DVD movies, the setup is still a fun expereince that won't get anyone annoyed, too much. System: Keep that Manual handy because there are lots of functions on this Home Theatre System. PROS: The overall system as a whole is very sleek. For a 5-Disc Changer I was surprised that it wasn't one of those giant systems which takes up too much space. This one was perfect and adds more of a sophisticated look to My Home Theatre. Everything in the system is silver and looks incredibly awesome, The speakers are slim and can be mounted up to the wall or onto a stand (no included). There is a function on the System which can raise up the speaker volume separately, which I love, because if you want to highten up the rear surrounds the effect is magnificent! The Dolby Digital and the DTS surrounds are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The Zoom function is cool too, the compatibitly of playing MP-3, CD-RW and others are a bonus, the Picture is Outstanding and overall the SYSTEM is Great! CONS: The Remote is not universal, there are no codes found in the manual therefore, it will be useful to keep those other remotes nearby. Buy it for your family, Buy it for a friend, Buy it for yourself. But get THIS System because this one just rocks everything in your House.

Review: I want to buy this home theater system for my sister in Viet Nam for her wedding. So I want to know some of its technical data which weren't mentioned here. Could you (those who are using it) help me? - Does it accept 220V 50Hz? - Is it dvd region-free? - Does it play SVCD? - In Viet Nam, there are a lot of Chinese DVD's. Summary: An Overall Disappointment
Review: I ordered the SCHT 700 last August and was initially pleased with my purchase. I have since learned quite a bit about home audio and realize that I made a mistake in purchasing this unit. To begin with, the overall design is terrible. To incorporate some of the hardware in the subwoofer is neat, but a poor engineering choice. I had a problem with hum bars crawling up my screen with this unit (funny how no bars with my other dvd player. even tried moving the unit to another tv on another outlet and turned off all interfering electronics to no avail) I complained to Panasonic and they sent me a generic email back saying I should take it 120 miles away to an authorized repair center. In addition, the video quality wasn't great and the lack of a digital input made the unit "futureless." In the end I decided to just stick the poorly performing unit on my 19 inch tv and spend more money to get worthwhile equipment. I would not recommend purchasing this unit unless you are simply more marveled by having 5.1 channel sound than you are by a true surround sound experience. If you're on a budget, my advice is to save up and spend more because you get what you pay for.

Summary: Excellent! How can people complain with a price like this?
Review: I've owned the HT-700 for 5 months now and I am totally satisfied. I researched Home Theatres quite a bit and believe that this is the best "bang for the bucks". The sound is amazing for this price. Very clear and crisp. Bass is pretty good... a lot better than what some reviews have claimed (note: subwoofers do best when placed in/near corners). The remote is complicated, but I was able to figure out after looking up a couple commands in the manual. I'm hooked up via component video and it looks great. If you want a complete home theatre at a decent price, go with this. I guarantee that the sound is loud enough (and still sounds good) beyond what 98% of people will listen to. When turned up all the way, me and my house-mates cannot hear each other sitting next to each other.

Summary: Great looking and sound but
Review: I bought the Panasonic SC-HT700 about a month ago and I am enjoying very clean music and adequate but not gut wrenching bass. The speakers are well-balanced and mesh nicely with the subwoofer unit. The system has a stylish and sleek appearance I can live with. I especially like the narrow design of the Sub. At least in our room, I found the best subwoofer performance to be at level three out of four possible levels to prevent booming and to get a flatter response with the satellite speakers. I did read the pros and cons before buying, and it seems the pros far outweighed the cons. I agree with the dificult to master remote, but it becomes a challenge rather than a problem I think. The manual is a little hard to follow also. And I have noticed some irritations like the DVD player stopping when the remote is put in another mode and some artifact or pixeling happening briefly on some movies, but I can live with these. I keep looking at total cost and functions versus negatives. All systems no matter the price have there good and bad points. Since we have a fairly large living room with a vaulted ceiling, the system needs to be put in the stimulated surround mode to get full bodied and room filling sound from CDs. This is not a problem though, and I get adequate sound with turning the volume up about halfway. At times though, I have to turn the system almost 3/4 of the way up from no sound at -84 to about -20 on the dial to do justice to some movie sound tracks. On the newer Titanic movie with THX Dolby Digital, I felt I was right in the middle of a real happening which I couldn't say with my older system. I think it could be the extra wattage they give the subwoofer that increases the room's sound pressure level more than the normal 100-150 watt systems. In any case, it was quite stimulating.
I wanted to go less complicated too with wiring and component set-up, and the Panasonic SC-HT 700 fit the bill. I hope the shut down problem is only a safety feature that occurs only at very high volume levels for extended periods to protect the system from damage. In any case, so far so good. I would recommend it for someone looking for an inexpensive system that has a variety of playback and set-up features accented by fairly decent sound and with multiple DVD play back capabilities.

Summary: Very good for the price
Review: I priced several home theater systems and this Panasonic system has been everything I was looking for. I looked at high end systems where the speakers alone cost 2-3K and the sound, to say the least, was amazing. But since I didn't want to spend the equivalent of a home down payment, I opted for a packaged system. For the money this system delivers good sound for DVDs and CDs. Set up is easy and overall it is a great system for the average home theater enthusiast. I have not experienced any technical difficulties with the DVD player in the 9 months that I have had the system. Over all worth the money.
