Rating: Summary: Nice product, great price Review: My family loves having this little DVD player... we've mostly used it for the tv's without DVD players, and for our car. With the car kit (DC adapter, Y-splitter, headphones, case), it becomes the perfect travelling companion for my 2 young kids (2.5 and 1 yrs). They love watching their children's DVD's in the car, especially when a trip longer than 15 minutes gets to be boring! When we attach the case to between the front seats, they are both able to see the screen without any problems from each side in the backseat. Even the volume is loud enough for them to hear in our somewhat noisy car.The remote control is easy to use, and I love that it is so small! (credit-card sized). The only complaints that I have are that the remote should include the On/off switch and volume control. I wish all remotes were this small and lightweight! The fast-forward and rewind features on the remote are really handy to have. This kit also includes the cables to hook up your portable player to any TV, the battery, AC and DC adapters. It was awesome that they included everything you would need in the whole package. We didn't need to buy anything additional for our travelling entertainment package. I did a lot of research for other (bargain-value) 7" portable DVD players, and I was trying to decide between an Audiovox 1730 or a Mintek 1770. With the $200 price on Amazon for the Mintek 1770KIT, this was a great buy!
Rating: Summary: loaded (including A/V input) and works well (so far) Review: My kids have been using this player for 2 months, including one very long road trip, and so far no problems. I am a bit nervous given the number of very negative reviews here at Amazon (most of which were done after I bought mine), and the fact that the manufacturer is a small company (that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars). (...) and the set includes a decent case, car power adapter, and 2 headphones with an audio signal splitter, not to mention the tremendous functionality, it's such a good deal that it may just be worth taking a chance on. Amazon is always so great about quickly replacing or refunding defective products within 30 days, that at least takes away some of the worry. As for battery life, I let Return Of The King run on it and the battery died at just over 2 1/2 hours (not great, but Amazon sells extra batteries for this unit, and for the price, it's hard to complain). One great feature that the product description doesn't include is the A/V input. You can play video games on this, or view your digital photos straight from the camera, etc, since you can plug an audio and video source in. Depending on the type of game console you have, you may need to get an adapter to convert the RCA output from your game unit to 1/8 inch miniplug format to plug into the DVD player, but these are easily bought on Amazon or other electronics stores (ie, Radio Shack) for less than $10. If your game unit or other outside video source has RCA jacks, then you're all set because this DVD player comes with a cable that has RCA plugs at one end and miniplugs at the other. But if you have a GameCube (no RCA jacks, just RCA cables), or a digital camera with a USB-RCA cable, then you'll need to get the RCA-miniplug adapter (again, it's cheap). Here's how you can input video to the screen on this DVD player. There is a switch on the side of this DVD player that toggles the A/V jacks from output to input, thereby telling the screen to display the DVD or an outside video source. Just make sure you switch the A/V back to output before you try to watch a DVD again. If the switch is on input and you try to watch a DVD, all you get is a black screen. I thought mine was broken until I toggled the switch back to output, then the DVD displayed fine. I wonder if any of the other people who said their screen stopped working accidentally toggled this switch to input? Anyway, I won't buy a second one until this first one proves its durability a bit longer, but at two months old, it's working fine and is definitely the most loaded player around for under $500 (...)
Rating: Summary: It was broken when it arrived Review: Ordered this kit for my son's birthday. It took several weeks to arrive (not a problem, since this was stated). The kit is a good deal, but the on/off switch was broken when we went to use the player. Looks like a good product, but we were disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great Little Player...Not just for travel! Review: Since we received the player, my kids sit in front of my 32" TV with the Mintek on their lap watching movies. I finally get to watch sports again! Last time I watched sports on the big TV was when the Cleveland Indians were good! Get the player; you can use it in the car too if you want....
Rating: Summary: Great device, good battery life Review: The small form factor and remote control give you lots of options with this device. I'm generally very happy with it. The only negative is the battery life. It doesn't seem to be nearly as good as it could be. For example I have an old laptop that can play multiple movies back to back without running out of juice. The same movies played in this device often don't make it to the end. Other than that its a great device and I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Love this machine! Review: This machine was worth my money. I purchased it about four months again and have had minimal to no problems with this machine. It is very easy to use, and everyone whose looks at the screen comment on how clear the picture is. The battery (fully charged) has lasted about four to five hours for me. I am careful with the machine because I don't know had much banging around it care take, but I still take it everywhere I go. For me, this was a very useful product!!!
Rating: Summary: Small portable package delivers lots of flexibility Review: We purchased this DVD player for our 11 year old son for Christmas last year. We have all used it almost everyday. I use it to show prospective clients my products line, our 5 year old daughter can operate it easily to watch her Tom and Jerry in the car or the truck. My husband uses it to watch a movie while he watches a football or baseball game. Our son does use it too to watch movies quietly in his room when he needs some downtime. I have also found it useful to take to the park to play a nature movie and be able to point out what we hear and see on the movie in the park. Love it! Buy it!
Rating: Summary: Good value Review: We purchased this unit after considerable review reading. I had never heard of Mintek but all the reviews were very positive. We've only had it a week and primarily use it in the car to entertain our daughter but so far it seems like a good buy. The sound is better than I expected and the picture quality is great. The only thing I am disappointed in is that in just the last week since I made my purchase the price has come down $20 and there is now a $50 rebate. Grab this unit while you can. You won't be sorry. Oh, one funny thing about this unit is that remote does not have an on/off feature or a volume control. I find that kind of funny but I can live with it.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: Well, when my 12 year old sister was in the hospital with a brain tumor, we all knew that she needed something to keep herself occupied. We couldn't have a TV cause she didn't have any cable. A Game system, no. Phone, no. So what else. We couldn't get her anything! At lest that is what we thought!!! We didn't want to spend that much money on a present so....when I was searching online one day, I found this portable DVD player idea. I thought it would be cool so we went and got her one! She absolutly LOVES IT!!!! She's back home now but when she goes to her doctors visits, she uses it and even when she's at home all day. The remote control is great for her because she doesn't have to ge up or anything. It's her own luxery and her most prized possesion!!!
Rating: Summary: Mintek's Dunnit Review: Wow! This is a great looking, great sounding, and an overall great player for da price
