Summary: Great value, nice little DVD player!
Review: *****
For the money, this DVD player is very nice---note that it is more than just a player---it is a kit! It comes with all accessories, cords, batteries, etc. so you only need to spend the purchase price. This was nice for me because I would have no idea which accessories to buy. It even comes with 2 headsets and a Y adapter!

Many functions run off of the player itself, and the rest off the remote. The fast forward and fast backward are only on the remote not the player, but the chapter forward and backward are on the player. I am satisfied with how things are set up. It is the first DVD player I've ever had, and I think it makes an excellent entry-level player. I really wanted to buy something sturdy but inexpensive, and this one fit the bill; I have heard other reviewers of other DVDs complain about what is on the remote and what is on the player, but I'm not picky.

One fun feature it has is the fast forward and backward multiply each time you hit it (first time is 2X, second time is 4X, etc.---all the way up to 16X). I like this because with the subtitles on, I can fast forward through boring parts of DVDs and still quickly read what, if anything, is going on.

It has many more features than I would ever use. The picture quality looks great to me. The battery life is supposed to be 3 hours, and so far, that seems about right.

I would recommend this DVD player kit for families with children (who will be hard on the player, so you wouldn't want to spend a fortune on it!) and entry-level purchasers.

Summary: Compact, feature-full and inexpensive!
Review: After weeks of research and after by chance finding this little player in a local store (FutureShop Canada), I finally had myself a portable DVD player. This review is based on short term ownership so I can not speak about reliability, durability etc.
To start with, the player is REGION FREE which was a must for me as I travel between Europe (Code 2) and America (Code 1) a lot. You simple select the country in the preferences and voila, its play time!
It comes with remote which is handy although I do not expect to use it much (will have the player in my lap!) but its nice to have though. The power-supply is a non-switching 110v one which will not work in Europe (230v), but as the player uses 12 volts DC it is not a problem to find general-purpose power-supply and run it from this instead. A car adapter is included as well which is great for recharging the unit (or view DVD's).
It's size is what I like the most, only slightly larger than a portable CD player and a snap-on battery which unlike other models, do not double its size! I've seen many similar models which looks much more bulky and with smaller screens.
The display itself is very nice, bright and not too narrow-angled - 2 people sitting next to eachother will have no problem what-so-ever with visibility! In moving sequences, it is possible to detect the interlaced drawing of the image but this is really only noticable when you look for it and can hardly expect more for such a cheap (non-progressive scan) unit. Naturally due to the 16:9 scale, widescreen DVD's looks the best (uses all the screen). Another note about the screen is that you can spot slightly more brightness on the edges of the screen (probably due to a mirror-effect on the alu sides) but again this is really only noticable in black sequences and when you look for it. If you want the purest and best in image quality, get a Panasonic or Toshiba portable but expect to pay much much more! However, if you, like me, needed a cheap unit which was small, region-free, can be hooked up as a monitor (Composite video in!) and play MP3 as well then you really do not go wrong with this one! On a final note; the sound is as can be expected, no problem with that except naturally the units tiny speakers are not for plane travelling but who tries that anyway without a noise-cancelling headset?!? Finally, unlike other similar players, this unit HAS a recharge indicator so you can see when its done!

Summary: A must have for a road trip with kids!
Review: Although the built in DVD player that drops down from the overhead in the car is neat, you can't take it out and bring it in the hotel with you on a road trip. The Mintek comes with adapters so you can hook it up to any tv. It's lightweight, easy to use and has a great picture. My granddaughter loves hers and uses it whenever we are going on a long trip in the car. Completely eliminates the dreaded phrase...ARE WE THERE YET?

Summary: Love this DVD Player!!
Review: As a mother who is always in the car, it was becoming really hard to travel with my son. So we started looking at every DVD player on the market. Went to a lot of stores and talked to a lot of people. We go on long trips every month and that was becoming a nightmare, so we found this one. Well I read every review on here and any other site I could find and it is all true. I live in a very pothole community and it never skips. It is great my son has no problem seeing it in the day or night. I have it hooked up between the drive and passenger seat so he doesn't kick it and it works great. I love the remote! The only thing I wish it had were volume control on the remote, but I haven't found one player anywhere with that feature. I am extremely happy with it! I did a lot of price comparision too and this is a GREAT deal.

Summary: Great Player...Great Price
Review: I bought this player two weeks ago for my kids to watch their DVDs in the car....they love it! My wife loves it! I love it! Very good picture quality for the price. The remote has a lot of great functions and the battery does last around three hours. If you're in the market for a portable DVD player, I highly recommend this player! Nice one Mintek!

Summary: Great Player
Review: I had read so many great reviews about this player so that is why I purchased this model. I did read negative reviews about the customer service but I just wanted to say how helpful they have been. I had a few problems with it when it arrived and they offered to replace the entire player with no hassle. I had to leave messages but they did get back to me promptly and were very nice to deal with. I am very happy with the product and service.

Summary: Great player for the money!
Review: I just ordered this based on the reviews it received. I was in the market for a DVD player and had been doing some research. I can't believe how fast it arrived, in less than 4 days!!

My mom has an Apex 7" and the colors on the Mintek are much better as is the quality. It makes a little noise once it starts a disc but otherwise pretty good. My mom paid $278 for hers without the headphones, jacks or bag.

My only complaint is that in the car if the sun is especially strong you will have a hard time adjusting it for the passengers to see. My minivan has tinted windows so it is alittle easier but my husband's car does not and it made it hard to see the screen for a little bit. All in all a great player!

Summary: Sooo Cool!
Review: I love this player, its soooo cool! I have had this for a week or 2 and it has worked great. It comes with everything you need. The picture is great, the sound is good too. If you have it up all the way it can even be a little to loud. While you are watching the movie the player makes no buzying or humming sounds like others. With the carring case they give you can hook it you in the middle of 2 seats or on a head seat. For the price you can't find a better one!!!!

Summary: Buy with caution!!
Review: I ordered this DVD player in the beginning of June. At that time, it had pretty good reviews. It seemed a value for it's price. Well...
1) It took four weeks to arrive (The estimate said 1-3).
2) The battery pack was defective. The customer service at Mintek (very personable...NOT!) said to mail it back. I wasn't in the mood to pay shipping on something that was defective out of the box. And God knows when they would actually send me a replacement.
3) I went back to read the reviews since I ordered it, and it was obvious that this is not a quality product. I didn't want to keep it and wait for when the display would go (like everyone elses).
**I would not recommend this product, but if you purchased it and it is still within 30 days, Amazon will take the return. You'll have much more luck with Amazon, than with customer service at Mintek**
By the way, I just ordered the Panasonic LS50.

Summary: Junk!
Review: I own the 7" model. Being a deployed soldier, many others around me also own Minteks. The PX sells them.

The hinges on my player are completely severed. The wiring harness is holding the screen to the base. The 5" models do the same.

It's not that I don't take care of the player. For a few months I replaced it in the factory styorfoam and kept in the box after each use. I eventually invested in a quality storage case for the unit. It's kept inside a building; I don't go into combat with my Mintek, or anything.

The price of this player simply wastes money you could spend on a quality one.
