Summary: If you haven't watched No Holds Barred...
Review: ...then this is a good introduction for you. Rickson Gracie is the real reason to watch this. The epitome of fighting zen and cool, he makes other men look woefully inadequate. Rickson represents a Mike Tyson in an alternate universe - the one of no-holds barred fighting.

As a documentary, it's pretty straightforward stuff. The most essential and engaging part is certainly the fighting.

Fans expecting to learn more about the Gracie history won't learn much here, but this is about as good a look at Rickson Gracie as it gets.

Summary: Insightful Documentary on MMA
Review: An enjoyable documentary for any serious MMA fan. This documentary offers insight into the training and mind set of FC MMA fighters by focusing on three MMA combatants during the final weeks before their fights. The primary focus is on Rickson Gracie, who goes into detail about his beloved art, his training and mental preparation for a fight. Although Rickson's insights was somewhat interesting, his "philosophical thoughts" gets kind of old after a while. I found the other fighters stories (Todd Hayes & Kimura) more compelling. Nonetheless, the documentary is very interesting and enjoyable. If you're looking for some exciting Rickson Gracie fight moments from this video, forget it! The exciting fight moments are provided by a 135 pound local Japanese combatant with the heart of a lion!

Summary: If you do jiu jitsu, buy this DVD
Review: Any self-respecting jiu jitsu student must own a copy of Choke. It's just that simple. Only after you own Choke, and can quote it, can you call yourself a jiu jitsu student.

Summary: Must buy for any MMA fan!
Review: Any true fan off MMA cannot go without this documentary! Most people when they hear the word "documentary", think "boring". That is the exact opposite though in this case! Choke offers an interesting and entertaining look at the lives of three fighters leading up to Japan Open Vale-Tudo '95. It's main focus is on Gracie family champion, Rickson Gracie. You will get a look at his unique training methods that have made him the man he is today, and he will offer his philosophies of jiu-jitsu and how jiu-jitsu is his life. The movie ends with the tournament, and what can be some rather hilarious backstage happenings.

Summary: Great Documentary, Bad Propaganda
Review: As a documentary on the mindset and personal lives of fighters as they prepare for competition, this video gets a five star. That portion of it was superb. As far as portraying Rickson Gracie as the world's superb fighter, it was a big misrepresentation. Rickson - we know is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters of all time. Who were the other two fighters training to fight him? 1.) Koichiro Kimura - a beginner to NHB at the time incorrectly portrayed as one of the best shootfighters. 2.) Todd Hayes - a no-name kickboxer not to be seen anywhere in K-1, Muay Thai, Strikeforce, etc. Basically, he was fighting only to buy himself a sled since he was on the Olympic bobsled team. There are better competitors fighting in NHB events crosstraining in various disciplines today. This video is overglorifying to Rickson Gracie. But then again, it's mainly about him and it should glorify him. However, I didn't expect it to be against relatively "nobodies" in the sport. If you look at this video for what fighters go through before fighting - it's awesome! If you want this video as proof that Rickson is one of the best in the world - keep your mind more opened by viewing other tapes in conjuction with this one.

Summary: Inside the mind of the greatest fighter who ever lived!
Review: As a student of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Torrance Academy) watching Rickson's training methods, hearing his philosophy, and understanding his approach to this incredible art is both educating and inspirational. The focus on his competitors is essential to a full understanding of a Vale Tudo fighter's psyche. Rickson Gracie is portrayed both as hero and human being. For fans of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, "Choke" is a rare opportunity to get to know a man who may very well be the greatest fighter that ever lived!

Summary: amazing!
Review: At first I thought that this is only about the "behind-the-scene-stuff-of-thing". I am wrong! This tape includes the tournament itself! What a film! I am a martial artist myself. I practice escrima (Filipino stickfighting). This tape is really for serious martial artists who are seeking the "truth".

Buy it!
