Murder on a Sunday Morning

Summary: Astounding
Review: This documentary tells the story of a fifteen-year-old young man in Florida who is accused of killing a tourist. The emphasis is on the public defender's role in exposing the inept police work, racism, and railroading that occurred in the case, and how Brenton Butler ended up getting a just verdict. Stepping back a bit, it makes the viewer wonder how often situations like this occur.


The film details, in a methodical manner but without being dry, how the public defender defended Brenton Butler, a young Black man, who could have been convicted of killing an older White tourist. I found the film very informative, regarding how a good public defender works.


While the truth of the whole matter is revealed at the very end of the film, the only things clear at the end of the trial were: the police investigation had been clearly inadequate, there was definitely (more than) reasonable doubt to acquit Mr. Butler, politics and racism had been issues in the case.


There are no Courtroom dramatics, no witnesses recanting testimony, no one breaking down on the stand and blurting out a confession. What there was, was a good investigation that shredded a poor one's findings.


This is a very gripping crime drama.

Review: This is a sad and amazing story of a little boy who is wrongly accused of murder. You absolutely MUST see this documentary! You won't BELIEVE what our law enforcement officials said and did to try to get this child to confess to a murder he did not commit.

Review: Unfortunately, I had to view this movie not out of wanting to see it, but as closure. The woman that was shot to death in this documentary was my aunt. I would just like to say that she was a wonderful woman and is greatly missed by all that knew her.
