Summary: Michael Moore is a Hero to the Common Man
Review: Michael more is a brilliant crusader. This is an amazing hyperbole to make a point about the 'Awful Truths' that make up many of the issues that are pressing in the United States today. This man takes no prisoners; he never gives up. He will attack any corporation that he feels has wronged its consumers, the environment, or the work force they exploit. In the first episode, he takes down an HMO by staging a funeral of someone who was dying as a result of a claim denial. He attacks people who are against gay rights. He attacks the Disney for the treatment of employees around the world and in the Magic Kingdom itself. There is no stopping him. He uses so many incredibly over the top methods to make his points (hence the 'hyperbole'). Christmas carolers with voice boxes from smoking related illness, storm Phillip Morris and a few other tobacco giants. What a trip. Have no misconception of this man; He is a bleeding heart liberal. If you do not like that sort of politics, do not buy this. It is not for you. This is defiantly something that should be known before you even consider looking at it. For any bleeding heart liberals out there, this is great. It makes you feel good that the little man can take something back for once. If you like this, you would like Michael Moore's other works. They are nice because they are more focused and can spend more time on an issue. That is my only real issue with the show. It is too quick. A lot has to be said in a little time. But, it is to the point, therefore, it is pretty good. It is well worth the money. I am happy with it. epc

Review: Moore is a hilarious and thoughtful media renegade. Both of his movies (Roger and Me and The Big One) as well as his first show on NBC (TV Nation) and the Awful Truth are funny, entertaining and poignant for anyone that is concerned with the state of the union.

Summary: Unbiased --- Not!
Review: Mr Moore claims he is a non-partisan, what an awful lie! He builds his whole premise on finding truth, but what he actually does is wear a non-partisan cloak to bash and demote Republican conservative agendas while promoting Liberal Democrat ideals. Take no heed to his deceit. Make your own choice and see the grimy veneer this man wears: he is a bleeding Liberal. make no mistake and be your own thinker.

Summary: Muckraking Is Back
Review: My only disappointment with The Awful Truth is that there aren't more (or should that be Moore?) episodes available for me to watch. Come on Bravo. Another series, please? Each week's show was a new delight and poked good old American fun at the Corporations which rule over the rest of us like contemporary Feudal Lords. How can you not love a crime-fighting chicken that discovers the "awful truth" about his old buddy, Mickey Mouse? How can it not be entertaining to find out that "the rich" don't know the first thing about repairing a dsyfunctional toilet or can't even remember their zip code? There were so many good bits in the series that I can't remember them all. I do recall being doubled up on the couch though, my stomach hurting from laughing so hard. Now this is what I call entertainment!!! Moore please, Michael.

Summary: Humor is Truth, Truth Humor
Review: Thank God for Michael Moore! And thank the distributors of this video for getting the recent seasons of "The Awful Truth" available for the non-cable subscribing audience so quickly. In characteristic form, Moore skewers the hypocricy of Washington, law enforcement and corporate America. He even takes on bible bangers, hitting the road with his "Sodom-Mobile" taking a mini gay pride parade to meet up with Fred Phelps' funeral-picketing homophobes. With so much entertainment packed in the twelve episodes, I'll pick my 3 faves: 1. Dressed as Puritans, a crowd pickets Ken Starr's house for the filth of his publication, The Starr Report. 2. Mike places a personal ad and seeks out a date for Hillary Clinton. 3. Mike responds to the repeal of a restaining order placed on him by a business at 30 Rockefeller Plaza by a hilarious montage which reunites him with his favorite Plaza locations.

Summary: better days for an fading figure
Review: THE AWFUL TRUTH contains some clever, witty work for a director who's seen better days. View the work of Moore when we was arguably at his height, before he mutated into the beast he now pretends to criticize. At one time I would recommend this irreverant material without any hesitation, but now, this teller of 9/11 jokes and incorrect gun fact has completely lost my interested.

Summary: Sick and Insensitive
Review: This is nothing but propaganda attempting to be funny, but ending up being sick and insensitive. Michael Moore obviously has his own political agenda and has a truly warped way of cramming his viewpoint down your throat. The ultimate effect is the opposite of what he probably intended, you end up wanting nothing to do with this man and feel ashamed for ever sharing an opinion with him. One thing it is not: funny.

Review: This is very well done, somewhat subversive and quite funny. Its too bad that he got shut down. It lends itself well to DVD - you can start at the beginning of any segment.

Summary: Beyond TV NATION
Review: This set is a godsend, especially for TV NATION addicts who didn't have access to Bravo or Channel 4 when the series originally aired. I put off buying THE AWFUL TRUTH for too long.. probably because I was in awe of TV NATION and I assumed lightning would not strike twice. Well, it did and it didn't. Gone are the guest reporters -- Merrill, Rusty, Janeane, Karen, and Louis -- and they are sorely missed. Though he sometimes enlists the help of Crackers and a handful of guest celebrities, Michael Moore handles all the reporting himself.. and fearlessly. This gives THE AWFUL TRUTH an intensity TV NATION lacked. Episode 1, for example, sets the tone for the entire season.. Moore sics puritans on Ken Starr, and then sics himself on an HMO who refuses to assist one of its customers with a life-saving operation. Moore's badgering of those who break their promises and waste our time is completely satisfying.. but some of the short films Moore presents border on tasteless. How are we supposed to react to gags that have grade-schoolers holding guns and burning crosses? I suppose it's just the nature of awful truths.. to make you laugh, cheer, and scream at the television in outrage -- often in the same segment.

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: Well I don't know what to say. This show is whacked. I agree with Moore on some things, other times he is way off in LEFT field for me. He's so on the left, he's off the page; drama queen of the left, he's so melodramatic and theatrical and biased. But anyway, the stories are amusing and bizarrely entertaining. Moore doesn't seek to preserve the status quo, and neither do I. Sometimes he pisses me off, but I loved it when he sent the pimp to Washington in a scathing critique of the current campaign finance situation (from 2nd season, not on this tape). I reccomend this show to those who are drowning in the mainstream like Michael & Me.
