Summary: Hopping Good Fun
Review: A hilarious documentary about a serious problem. The film is exceptionally engaging, in particular because of the use of a hand-held camera to create the effect of a "toad's eye view" of the world. Great (usually comic) sound effects. Although the documentary is humorous, it still manages to successfully reveal the dangers caused by the introduction of non-indigenous species.

Summary: Cane Toads cracks me up!
Review: Cane Toads is a very unusual science documentary in that it is absiolutely hysterical (and also truly informative about the hazards of introduced species). The cast of characters--residents of Queensland Australia as well as scientists--is truly unique and very entertaining! I would highly recommend this video to a wide range of audiences, from kids with an interest in science to fans of Monty Python and Saturday Night Live. College-age Biology/Ecology students will love it--a fabulous study break, or a treat in class on the day before break!

Summary: Cane Toads
Review: Cane Toads is an unbelievable environmental disaster that occurred earlier in the 20th century. I purchased this tape for my students in the advanced environmental science course that I teach because it is a true documentary and it is also very entertaining in a dark sort of way. It is a perfect example of the impact humans have on their environment when they introduce exotic species into an ecosystem. The Cane Toads become invasive, and are as common as dandelions as they take over the Australian landscape.

Summary: Outstanding Example of Human Stupidity!
Review: Cane Toads: An Unnatural History does an excellent job of illustrating just what can (and often does) happen when humans attempt to alter nature without fully researching the possible outcome. I have been using this video for several years with the middle school life science class that I teach at an independent school in Topeka, Kansas. The students love it, and they learn some important lessons in regard to our natural world and the evolution of life on the planet Earth.

Summary: Unnatural yet commical
Review: DO YOU LIKE CRAZZZZY TOADS? YOU WILL!!! Oh where to begin. The Cane Toad, as you will soon find out, is a remarkable animal. This fabulous movie combines knowledge with humor and entertainment. It is a movie fit for all ages while still remaining practical. It begins with a brief history about the Cane Toad and continues on to describe how the Cane Toad got to Australia. It includes commical parts including a scientific demonstration of the mating proccess, a stuttering local aquarium worker, many elderly local residents commentary, a surprise attack of cane toads on a singing man in the shower, and a little girl's opinions on the creatures. During the little girls speech she goes on to demonstrate how she plays with the toad as a doll. She says "Sometimes I call him Greeny, sometimes I call him Red, sometimes I call him Cane but mostly I call him Dairy Queen." The man who demonstrates the toad matting proccess also demonstrates the toads mating call. This commical, useful documentary is a wonderful way to demonstrate what can happen when a nonnative species is introduced into a new habitat. It is action packed and thrilling to the core. Nothing comes close to this fab movie! Guaranteed to hold your interest for hours on end, however, it is only 45 minutes long! BUY ONE TODAY! I only wish we had Cane Toads here in the United States. You will be addicted to the wonders of the cane toads just like me. I eat, sleep, and live for cane toads!

Summary: Entertaining, but not scientific
Review: Don't look for Attenborough or PBS-type science in this account. The film is as much about the quirky characters of the neighborhood as it is about the cane toads.That said, an early interview with an old gentleman discussing the precarious position that the cane toads have him in is absolutely hysterical. The director gets a lot of mileage out of having Australians say "cane toad", which is in itself hilarious--all the more so since they don't crack a smile.

Review: Fall-off-your-chair-laughing material. Besides the highly interesting facts, those interviewed are such gems they could never be scripted or casted into any top line comedy with such brilliance. Look out for the aquarium guy with the stutter. A must buy !!!
