Summary: Waste of money
Review: If we had known at the time of purchasing this that the same people who created this tape were also the creators of "The Gods Must Be Crazy" then we never would have bought this. The kids were completely bored and it was turned off after 10 minutes!

Summary: Animals are beautiful people
Review: If you are looking for something that is somewhat a faurst of real life..but leaves out the horror, killing, and 'colorful' language...then this would be a HIGH recommendation for all of your family! You will laugh from start to finish..that much is a promise...and check out the other films also by this same company and producer.."Gods must be crazy" and "Gods must be crazy II"...all are worth the money spent to add them to your collection.

Review: Oddly enough, this film opens at swanky Abbondazio's, a popular lunchtime eatery of L.A.'s priviledged and coddled. Madonna, Mrs. Fidel Castro, Cher, and Elton John are nibbling on their minimalist lunches while Elton diatribes on and on about not being allowed to wear his pink alpaca coat anymore. We know the coat has been died pink because Madonna keeps insisting that real alpaca doesn't "come" in pink. Elton insists that HIS alpaca does. Inscrutable Cher just smiles wanly while the (one gets the impression) always a little too eager to please Mrs. Castro tries to be helpful by punctuating every comment with "ai, chica, I dunno." Fascinating.

Summary: Some staged scenes, but very entertaining
Review: This "Documentary" was produced by the same guy who went on to do "The Gods Must be Crazy".It is very funny in parts, but for parents who don't want their kids seeing baby birds dying by the hundreds, don't watch the last 15 minutes (I don't mind my kids seeing this, but I thought I'd throw in that caveat) Like an earlier reviewer, I too thought that nest fire looked set up. There was just no reason for the camera to be focusing on that one drop that happened to start the fire. Also, that same reviewer pointed out the "drunk scene" was man made, so I checked out the site he mentioned (wildwatch.com), and if you search around the plant section (some plant that start with an m, sorry I forget which). Here is the relavent text:
"Due to its well-known alcoholic capacities, rumours abound as to the Marula's intoxicating effects on wild animals. While elephants and baboons both relish the fruit, the former would need to consume prodigious amounts of already fermenting fruit for it to have even the mildest impact, and since these huge animals drink up to 160 litres of water a day, there would anyway be a major diluting effect. Interestingly, examination of fresh elephant dung show that less than ten percent of Marula fruits are actually 'processed' in any way - most fruit passes through the digestive tract intact. Observations on baboons suggest that they prefer fresh Marula fruit and because the pulp is digested and the seeds passed within a 24-hour period, fermentation is impossible. The infamous scene in a popular movie from the 1970s - Jamie Uys' 'Beautiful People', which depicted a troop of obviously drunken baboons in and under a Marula tree, was clearly man-induced and would today be outlawed in terms of animal cruelty." When I first saw this video, (...) Watching it with the knowledge that it was set up, made it seem rather cruel. Despite this, I still found this movie very entertaining on the whole.

Review: This film i wish could be shown on tv again i have looked every where for this film on video for keep sake. for all persons out ther if you are not crying with laughter by the end you missed then the drunk mokeys whicthe best part of the film. This film is the best wildlife film i have ever watched no other film or documentury could match it in this sectre. If you happen to see it on video or on tv please dont switch channells watch it, it is all round very good famaly veiwing

Summary: Hilarious and wonderfully filmed!
Review: This humorous commentary on a large number of the animals and ecosystems in Africa will appeal even to those who are not fans of nature documentaries. While it does not devote full coverage to any specific animal, it gives a personal and brilliantly entertaining view of many animals and their interactions with the people, animals and plants around them. This is one video you can watch for the fun of it, and is wonderful for all ages! END

Summary: The real world
Review: This is a great animal video, I have passed it around to my teachers at school and friends are standing in line, the narrator is the same talented guy that did " The Gods Must be Crazy", you will see some scenes from the movie you will remember, a real aborigene trying to fake out an ostrich. The animals all have a grand time getting drunk one day out of the year on fermented fruit, the elephants are knee walking, the giraffe can't hold his neck up and the monkeys are made of silly putty. The baby pelicans that have to do a death march is the low of the movie, nature is as cruel as beautiful, and you see it all here, two thumbs up.

Review: This is a must have video. The narrator gives this video a couple of stars, but the film is outstanding and peacefull, the music gives the final touch. To me this film is a masterpiece. P.S. You must love nature to fully apreciate.

Review: This is an amazing film. Its truely one of the best films ever made. Capitvates the beauty of creation and all its abundance. brings one in touch with the lost innocence. It is a pity that this film is not available in PAL/ Secam or Mesacam format - I would love to see it again and also preserve it for the next generation. Jamie Uys is a truley marvelous person, what with films like the above and Gods Must be crazy and even his candid camera show - Funny People. ...

Summary: For animal lovers with a sence of humor!
Review: This is not your average animal film. It is done with great humor and as well as being educational and sometimes irreverent, beyond that it is a 'musical appreciation' film. Magnificent music that to brings to life the uplift and down draft of the animal and insect kingdom living in and on some of the worlds most inhabitable deserts. The music sweeps you along in the daily and nightly efforts of these creatures as they go about life as nature intended. I greatly respect the restraint of the director as he bypasses the usual animal eat animal fare, leaving that knowledge to your imagination. There are wonderful stories within the film that leave you wishing for more. This is a family must.
