Description:

In this Marion "Suge" Knight-produced profile, the rap mogul talks about his label and philosophy. The two are intertwined; as Knight has noted, Death Row Records "is a family and a way of life." Video clips from Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Tupac Shakur, and others are combined with interview segments. The songs, unfortunately, are not identified (until the end credits) and those from Dre's Chronic have been edited for content. Most of the rest have not. Were the program rated, it would surely earn an R (for explicit language and nudity). Fans of the infamous label may find this profile of interest, but those with only a passing curiosity may be disappointed. It's more like an infomercial than a balanced look at the life of its controversial leader. Although Knight does tackle a few delicate issues, he doesn't do so to the degree that he could--and probably should--have. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
