Summary: Scientific "Outsiders " vs. Sensational Speculators
Review: Traditional archaeology is being proven mistaken in its assessments ofman's early history on an almost daily basis. However, Von Daniken'swild speculations about alien intervention detract from the work of"outsiders" to the dominant paradigm who combine realscientific investigation with fresh outlooks on discovering man's truehistory.

Summary: Very convincing, Von Daniken is a genius.
Review: Although some of the stuff Von Daniken put in this book is outrageous, it's still very believable because Von Daniken is convincing. It's a very good book, but he uses logic rather than providing real evidence. Francis Hitching wastes a whole chapter in his book "The Mysterous World: An Atlas of the Unexplained" just debunking Von Daniken. Hitching is right a lot of the time too. They're both good books, get them all.

Summary: Love it or Hate it!
Review: As you can note if you look at the former reviews: Persons that read this book or love it or hate it! There is no midle term: Or you rate this book five 5 stars or 1 star! Personaly, I rate this book 5 stars because it is (at least!) a very stimulant speculative book. Anyway, there are in this book hundreds of perplexing questions that will make you think about the possibility of Erich's speculations be right. He shows too many coincidences and amazing facts. This book can open your mind indeed.

Summary: One of the first 2 books that "changed my life" 1973+
Review: This is especially for the "stuffed geese" of the world who think there is nothing true but what is passed down kindly from our grandfathers. A revolutionary book! Whets the appetite for more!

Summary: I agree it's not science-fiction
Review: I agree with the previous reviewer that this book is not science-fiction. As a modest science-fiction writer myself I don't, believe me, mean that as a compliment. To call this trash science-fiction would insult our craft.

Summary: God-like, about Gods from space!
Review: The last reviewer is a SNOB. The public at large needs these kinds of films. They want more of these kinds of films. And they beleive in them as they should.

Summary: So bad, it's good
Review: I first read Von Daniken's masterpiece when I was twelve, and I could see right through it even then. In fact, most twelve-year-olds will find this book way too superficial. However, I now think the book is so bad it's good - it should have cult status. Von Daniken spends much of the book wingeing about the lack of recognition he gets from the scientific community (in fact, he gets too much - once or twice his work has actually been seriously discussed), he ignores science and physical evidence for the most part, and concentrates on two themes. The first is that ancient people were too stupid to have solved any but the most trivial problems, such as walking, gathering fruit, and eating. Feats of science and engineering, such as building pyramids, needed help from more advanced beings. The second theme is that, if something superficially resembles something else, then it is that other thing. Thus, if a sculpure in India is ornately carved in a way that resembles pipes, then the detail is not decorative - it depicts actual pipes. Furthermore, if the figure in the sculpture appears to be reclining, as - say - an astronaut would in a spacecraft, then the sculpture depicts an astronaut in a spacecraft surrounded by pipes. Yes, it's that simple. I'm sure if Von Daniken came across a symbol in an ancient ruin comprising a square divided in four segments he'd conclude that ancient people had computers and ran Windows on them.

Still, it's a good laff.

Summary: This book will change the way you look at your world.
Review: This is one of the most incredible books I have ever read ! It will most certainly have some effect (whatsoever) on the way you look at your world and the universe. Atheists might consider reading this book as it offers a whole new view at the way we have been looking at gods and the different religions. This book, and others by the same author, has certainly laid The notion of one all powerful and all-knowing God to rest. The theories of time dilation and relativity have been most beautifully explained , which is for any layman to find out. You dont need a degree in physics to read this book which so beautifully revolves around space, space travel, time , relativity and our concepts of religion. The arguments and evidences that Daniken provides in support of his point will make even the most skeptical sit and ponder !!!
