Summary: Their is better material evidence by the dogons and elders.
Review: Ah! here we go again, lol now if Daniken's work is flawed, which it is in part, then so is Jonathan's lame view of the evolutionary man and the created godly men lmao! For one, you can find evidence of alien intervention, see the dogons and other similar communities of their stature, they have already shown that they understood the alignment of the stars positions, this has been confirmed by top astronomers who are still trying to find an alternative answer to this. They spoke of amphibious beings who came from what american scientist calls the sirius system, the dogons have a complete understanding of these celestial bodies they even gave an accurate account of the sirious a b c density. Which has now been discovered by american scientist who refuted the existence of sirius c. There are quite a few artifacts from different so called cultures in Africa that supports the intervention of outerspace beings, but this does not take away from any basic knowlege or learned behavior of the developing human beings, from what these seemingly different but yet the same culture groups said, was that these alien beings taught them a great deal about geometric for earth advancement as well as to understand how the universe is formed. So i would not laugh too hard at this presentation although it is poorly explained and put together.

Summary: No Aliens Needed!
Review: The heart of von Daniken's claim - and, incidentally the source of most of his income - is the fact that Genesis 6 refers to the arrival of the 'sons of God': whom he then assumes must be aliens from another planet. As a result, he thinks, we are descended from them. Many of his claims have been found to be spurious over the years, but it has been more difficult to refute this particular one because, it would appear, there is no evidence 'in stone' to be offered up against it. Well now there is some evidence on paper! In his recent book 'God, Science and the Cosmic Jigsaw', Jonathan Kingsley provides us with an entirely different answer to this particular enigma. In this work, where he strives to bridge the gaps between science and religion, he argues the case for a two-phase creation where the first was natural evolution and the second was divine intercession: with the creation of Adam using the genetic blueprint of the evolutionary race. Hence, this designer race, 'sons of God', who then went on to displease God by interbreeding with evolutionary man, leading to the 'Fall of Man'. If you want to know where we came from, you will do well to consider what Kingsley has to say and not delude yourself about aliens. For while aliens might well exist somewhere in the universe, their intervention was certainly not required on our little planet! Avail yourself of this entertaining and very logical alternative to the misplaced theories of von Daniken.

Summary: Different perspectives.
Review: ALtho Von Dankin has beeen proven to be a "unresearched" scientist, I still enjoy the movie version of his book. I love archeological sites, and history as rule. Many things were uniquely presented, but again, you have to take a grain of salt with his " out of context" presentations. [ mayan heiroglyphs etc]. great cinematograhy tho.

Summary: Actually, Morrigan, this book SHOULD be ridiculed.
Review: Here, in a nutshell, is Von Daniken's theory:- Primitive savages (i.e. non-Europeans) weren't intelligent enough to create these monuments, and their own great civilizations for that matter, all on their own. Thus, those outside influences that created these civilizations MUST have been aliens who, coincidently, looked much like Europeans. - It's not difficult to counter Von Daniken's claims. From a scientific standpoint, he has a theory and twists "evidence" to support it; evidence that would counter his hypotheses is conveniently ignored. In fact, he rarely uses any evidence at all. He merely dismisses the accepted ideas out of hand, and then floats his own ideas as if these constituted evidence itself. When he did try to present physical evidence, as he did with pottery depicting flying saucers, these were proven to be frauds ("Nova" found the potter and Von Daniken had to admit the fraud he perpetrated when confronted). This, boys and girls, ain't science. I'm torn in rating this book. On the one hand, I found myself laughing a great deal, so in that respect it provided me with a great deal of entertainment. However, it has also contibuted to a lack of scientific understanding of many people today. There are those who accept it without question, and I find this fact scary as hell.

Summary: Our ancestors did not need the help of aliens
Review: Our ancestors did not need the help of aliens to build the pyramids or to build Machu Picchu. Our ancestors (the Mayas, the Incas etc.) were good engineers. They had an advanced knowledge of hydrology, sustainable development, and structural design. None of this is mentioned in "Chariots of the Gods". A much better book on this subject is "Machu Picchu: A Civil Engineering Marvel", by Kenneth R. Wright and Alfredo Valencia Zegarra.

Summary: Great Fun
Review: This is one of the funniest "Science" books ever published. The rankor in against "scientists" is only matched by the author's incredible ignorance about Archeology. But what I found amazing was reading all the reviews by so many people who cry out about the virtues about having an "open" mind but who don't seem to know the first thing about any of what Von Daniken writes about. Well what about reading the copius work done about say Twianku in Bolivia, or Tula in Mexico or Cuzco in Peru? When I was twelve I read "Chariots of the Gods" and was a believer for about a year. Then I read a few basic texts about the Maya, Incas, etc., and discovered that Von Daniken was in error so much that well it's a joke. For example the traditional Andean accounts attribute the colossal stone construction at Cuzco and elsewhere in Peru to the Inca Emperors. And such monumental construction was continueing when the spanish came. As for the Maya Von Daniken's explaination for the Mayan collapse has been exploded and so has his explaination for the Sarchophagus lid from the Temple of the Inscriptions at Palenque, which we know know from being able to read the Mayan Hieroglyphs depicts thee Mayan King Pacal falling into the maw of death down the cosmic tree. Von Daniken's comment about a inscription about a hot wind describing the death of the man in the Sarcophagus is total invention. Then his book is peppered with absurd comments like stating that a jade necklace found in a Mayan tomb is fantastic because we all know jade only comes from China!. Well thats not true as even the smallist amount of research would indicate. As for Von Daniken's research by going to various sites; well if you go and are unwilling to listen to what the researchers who have devoted their time to unraveling these sites you will of course view them as "mysterious". Von Daniken is a very funny joke and even funnier are those who don't see the joke.

Summary: The reviews alone are classics
Review: Since 16 years I'm interested in Erich von Dänikens Ancient Astronaut Theory. Of course he is controversial, of course he is hated by many people. Everybody with new ideas is. von Dänikens book was first published in the 60s and it is still controversial and talked about. That's an accomplishment in itself. This alone proofs that von Dänikens Theory has more to it then his critics would like. 90% of von Dänikens critics I talked to over the years never been to the places he has been to and they never even read his books properly. A lot of the people claim von Däniken made a lot of mistakes and drew a lot of wrong concludions. Of course he did. Every good researcher does. Only bad researchers never make a mistake! Why? Because they never draw their own conclusions. They write what the rest of the "established" researchers and their "established readership" wants to hear. I read "Chariots of the Gods" when I was 14. I instantly learned more about history, myths, ancient places and cultures then I did in my whole time in school. Now I'm 30 and I'm still fascinated with von Dänikens theory. But unlike so many of his critics who only try to dismiss or redicule him I try to see the places he writes about myself. So I'm traveling around the world and take the freedom to look at history from a different angle. To all the guys who only get a laugh out of von Dänikens book: Go ahead and laugh! I go out and do some research... Tiwanacu, Nazca, Baalbek. Go ahead and see those places for yourself! Then read von Däniken again. You will be surprised how right he is. Herbert

Review: Von Daniken's theory about ancient astronauts visiting earth is nothing more than psuedoscience. As with many psuedosciences, his ideas sound somewhat convincing, especially to someone without a scientific background. But the "evidence" does not hold up until critical inquiry.

Review: The part that you mention is exactly what I was wanting to review. Interestly enough, I seem to remember that the TV movie told about signs of the coming of the Anti-Christ, namely that 10 european powers would come together to use one monetary unit and that the the Anti-Christ would be the son of a an ex-President of the U.S. and would also run for the office. Does anyone else remember that?

Summary: Chariots of the Gods: Book Review
Review: Chariots of the Gods is full of amazing facts and evidence that I don't understand how can be overlooked. The book talks mainly about the ancient "runways" that gods may have used to land their spacecrafts thousands of years ago.
There is also evidence showing ancient, thousand year old power sources containing compounds foreign to the earth. The book also talks about how in countries such as Peru and New Zealand there are cave drawings on the walls depicting ancient astronauts/visitors, and maybe that our entire belief system is based around an alien species that visited earth thousands of years ago. -Hans
