Summary: Excellent skating and direction - but still conformist.
Review: From the outset, the first thing that hits you is that this skate video is going to be different from the run-of-the-mill videos which seem to get churned out almost weekly from the skateboarding industry at the moment. Spike Jonze has made a major contribution, and the sections which he directed are both original and visually impressive, with welcome use of 35mm film - a rare thing in skateboarding movies now days (mainly due to the amount of takes which are required for a skater to land his most difficult tricks).

I have two issues with this video. Firstly, the way in which Spike Jonze's skits are edited with the standard skate video sections leaves the whole film feeling a little disjointed. Its almost like the editor has taken a standard skate video and dropped the more artistic segments between the standard cuts. While the result is still impressive, it just seems to lack a certain coherence which you would expect if the whole video had been done by a single director. When I think back to old skate videos like Powell's Propaganda and Animal Chin, the skits seemed more in-sync than this video.

Another gripe is the sheer amount of footage. I thought I'd never say this, but there is almost too much skating in this video, to the point where some of the weaker sections could have been removed (I won't name them) and the production as a whole would have benefited. I'd also question whether this classic formula of presenting skateboarding in rider-based sections is really the most entertaining format. Again, refer back to old Powell videos when you'd get riders skating together etc - this is a better reflection of why skating is really so enjoyable.

Now, a final note on the skating. Overall - excellent. There really is something for everone in this video - Brain Anderson's style unique and is a classic illustration of how power should be controlled. Eric Kosten is technically outstanding as usual. Rick McRank suprisingly has the gnarliest, and arguably the best, section in the video. However, the favorite among most viewers (including myself) seems to be Mike Caroll's section - its hard to put your finger on just why its so entertaining, but it is.

Overally, I'd recommend this video, however, I believe more should be done to change the way in which skate videos are produced as a whole, rather than just intertwining them with expensive and well-directed skits.

Review: this movie was the lamest skate video i have ever seen, you can tell there on skate boards when they try to pretend there on hover shoes, and they use ramps to ollie onto handrails and then edit them out so it looks like they werent there, maybe they should practice ollieing some decks for a while instead of using factor x ramps painted green, haha just kidding this movie is shiznitnamnitotastic!

Review: This video is amazing. I would have to say this is the best skateboard footage I have ever seen. Its long, which is great, and it never gets tired. I have owned this since it was first realeased and almost watch it daily.

There are cool sections in which special effects have been utilized to create something new in skateboard video. But the main footage is excellent.

Review: YEAH RIGHT (Rhino) is a feature length film from the Girl Skateboard company directed by Spike Jonez (among others) over a three year period. Lots of fish-eye lens shots showcase 22 contempo street boarders doing their thing in urban settings accompanied by an explicit hip-hop track. There's also a clean version. The coolest segment is street boarding with the boards digitally removed. And I liked the ball-busting, rib-cracking, brain-dinging wipe-outs, although they were few and far between
