Summary: Outstanding DVD!
Review: Having been a long time Van Halen fan, this DVD captured my attention and provided a refreshing look at VH's early days, and even pre-VH years. I really enjoyed the tons of rare photos of the band that I'd never seen before, especially the photos of them rehearsing as a trio with Mark Stone. I've never seen anything like that!

While it would have been great to have seen current interviews with Van Halen, I thought the DVD lent a great perspective hearing the band's story from the people who were there in the trenches.

Excellent job, well worth the money.

Review: Awesome.

Summary: Really this should be 3.5 stars.
Review: Fair play to the maker for writing. The 5 star review at the beginning was probably a bit of a red herring, but I doubt whether it would have made any difference to the people who have bought this DVD already anyway. Besides there is nothing in this commencing review that isn't true. It's a real shame Warner Brothers and the band couldn't have at least given you some help with this, because it would have made the final release worth 10 stars! Giving a serious review, this DVD does give an accurate account of the early years, so the title cannot be regarded as miss leading. The interviews are rare and in many ways gives an insight into Van Halen that they would never admit to themselves. I bet Dave Lee Roth was a real hand full to work with. Perhaps the 1 star and 5 star argument should stop not now, because lets be realistic, it doesn't matter what these reviews say, every Van Halen fan will want to see this DVD anyway! And it can hardly be regarded as expensive! Realistically this should be given a 3.5 rating, if permission for the music had been granted then 5+ stars most definately.

Summary: Very suspicious
Review: If you are considering buying this DVD you are probably very confused by all of these reviews. Half of them have one star and half of them have five stars - what is going on? It is worth noting that the very first review was a VERY detailed breakdown of the DVD contents and gave it a five star rating - however it was submitted BEFORE THE DVD WAS RELEASED! What does that tell you? Also every bad review is followed a day or two later by a contradictory rave review. I've never come across such blatant abuse of the Amazon review feature - it's clear that the DVD makers are just trying to sucker you into buying it using fake reviews while the true VH fans are disgusted by this lousy rip-off and stating it in the clearest terms. DO NOT BE FOOLED! DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!

Summary: Desperate!
Review: Thats the only way I can describe this! So all the people that worked around Van Halen are trying to cash in just because they used to work for them! Proper interviews with the musicians is what the fans want, but maybe because the band has moved on so much over the years, it's just not possible anymore. Either way this DVD has been hyped up far too much.

Summary: What is up with the horrendous music on this DVD?
Review: What in God's name is that revolting music that is played on this DVD? It's not Van Halen and it barely qualifies as music by any definition I've heard.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: As exciting as watching paint dry.....
Review: 'I've finally got Van Halen in my house' was a load a bol***ks! This DVD is a rip off and only friends of the makers will tell you otherwise!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exciting!!!!!
Review: I cant believe it took so long just to get some history on these guys! Ive been following Van halen around since I was 13 yrs old, and I finally have them right in my own hands. I was amazed at all the classic clips, ticket stubbs, and posters they showed us during the documentary. I thought I knew plenty about the greatest guitarist, but I was WRONG! This is definitly a must for even the slightest Vanhalen fan. FINALLY< FINALLY< FINALLY! I have Van halen in my house!!

Summary: I have to be honest and say that I expected a lot more.
Review: Well at least I haven't waited for 20 years to see this...! What are these guys on? The idea is good but the finished article falls well short of expectations. It's a shame the Van Halen camp didn't get involved in the making of this DVD because it could have been put together very nicely. Perhaps if the makers of this DVD negotiated some deal with the Band then another DVD could be released that really does kick *** and then everybody will be happy ! From looking back at all these reviews I really don't think this is the current case. In fact perhaps this DVD should be withdrawn.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great DVD, must see for true Van Halen Fans!!!!!
Review: I have been waiting for this DVD for 20 years. I can remember when I just could not wait for the next Van Halen "album" (I almost said CD) to come out. This takes me back to that time. I have always been interested in how Van Halen started and this DVD takes you back to the very beginning and tells all the stories I have always wanted to hear.

I was very entertained by the DVD and couldn't turn it off. I just wish there was more of it. I would love to hear more about the band. Maybe they will make another DVD to pick up where this one leaves off.
