Rating: Summary: The Birth of Organized Crime in America Review: Had this documentary been called "The Birth of Organized Crime in America," I would have given it 5 stars because that's all it does (and very well, I might add). I suspect the title "Mafia" was used to appeal to the rookie drug dealer who wants to learn how to improve his business but is too stupid to read a book and as such looks for DVDs with the word "Mafia" in it.
But seriously folks, this DVD tells a good story about the birth of OC in the US of A, but even then does not talk about Murder Inc. (the crew from Brooklyn that traveled around the country assassinating people for the Mafia - 2000 in all), the Gangs of New York (not the cheesy Leonardio De-Faggio version), and the gangster underworld (featuring people like Kid Twist and Mose) that came immediately before the birth of the 5 families.
Bada Beep, Bada Boop, I guess this as much as we can expect from some dudes in the suburbs of LA.
Rating: Summary: Good for all Mafia lovers... Review: This is a terrific DVD to have and watch if you would like to be informative on the Mafia's history. This DVd set will explain everything about movies such as The Godfather that might be confusing, as well as Mafia life in general. Buy this to learn more, but if you are uninterested in the Mafia, it probably isn't such a good idea to get.
Rating: Summary: Very Informative Collection of Mafia History DVDs Review: This is definitely a collection worth having. The information is presented in a clear manner and well narrated. A must have for all Mafia buffs.
Rating: Summary: crap Review: This is totally useless dvd. Instead of getting knowledge about italian american mafia you only get some explanation about why Prohobition years were good for organized crime, including jews, irish etc. (every dumbass knows it anyway...) There is not a single word about mob structure, five families in new york, evolvement of mob families, their inner workings, how families were established, most famous disputes, who were the bosses, how street mobsters raised money (I think that to just say they commited crimes is not exhaustive explanaton)etc. In that video they just talk about that lucky luciano, meyer lansky, frank costello and few others had big interest in bootlegging ang gambling business. (not a single word about big time mobsters joseph bonanno, joe profaci, tommy lucheese, colombo, gotti etc.)
