Review: What exactly was the purpose of this movie? Was it trying to help the poor working class of Flint? If Americans are going to be pro-proletariat I don't see why such antipathy for communism. So what if the pitiful slave rebellion succeeded? In the godless ephemerality of human life wether they all perish or continue to contaminate planet earth- what does it matter? If you gave in to be an american machinistic slave of a job, you might as well expect to be treated like a slave. What is wrong with Roger Smith? A cunning ingenious businessman if you ask me. The sarcasm, though I usually receive sarcasm well, was vomit-inducing. Stories with morals never fare well, and it is for humans like Moore that I wish hell existed; but alas it does not. Rebel- a mindless american romantic loose term pertaining to muckrakers. Who's concern is it about Moore, Flint, and muckrakers? A torturous classroom experience.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: This film was so powerful it moved me to tears and it still chokes me up just thinking about it. The problems facing the people in this documentary are the same problems American families are facing today. Big corporations cutting corners so they can collect all the wealth and pay their employees practically nothing until one day they decide to lay everybody off and move to Mexico where they can pay people even less while the American people suffer. Watching people being evicted from their homes was heart breaking. Especially the women being kicked out on Christmas Eve with her small children watching. There is a huge gap between the wealthy and the poor in this country and it is growing. And places like Wal-Mart are only making things much worse. Bravo to Michael Moore for exposing people like Roger Smith and all the other low life fat cats. I hope Michael Moore really lays into George W. Bush in his upcoming documentary Fahrenheit 9/11.

Summary: Probably the best social documentary I've ever seen
Review: When you think "documentary," the natural instinct is to think monotone voiceovers, so-so photography, and, depending upon the filmmaker, either apology or incredulity. Moore's film, in which he documents what's happened to his hometown, and his efforts to talk to then-GM CEO Roger Smith, are still valid some 13, 14 years later because they apply to American society and communities today that are facing what Flint faced 20-odd years ago. Moore's somewhat lighthearted yet on-the-money delivery are as fun to watch today as they were the first time I saw this on video. Moore's style of questioning, seemingly so innocent at first, shows he has done his research. His latest effort, Bowling at Columbine takes aim (no pun intended) at gun control issues, much in the same manner as this film addresses the implosion of an American city -- a trend that sadly has played out in far too many communities as Corporate America moves its factories to where labor is cheap, and organized labor doesn't exist. Roger and Me is flat-out great. Watch it and you'll think of corporate America the same again. (Which is a good thing...)

Summary: Upbeat! Inspiring! A Genuine American Capitalist !!
Review: This film, extremely entertaining, a great work of comedic/dramatic art, is actually more valuable and noteworthy for its underlying message: Free-market capitalism is the finest system ever devised, it is driven by individual creativity/productivity, and Michael Moore is a superlative, exemplary paragon of the American Profit Motive in action.Down and out in a town that was down and out -- Flint -- Michael Moore didn't run whining to the government for help. He didn't go begging on the streets. He didn't mew and squeal about bad luck in life. He didn't go sit in the corner with his thumb in his mouth. Rather, Moore had an idea, then he got off his derriere and, by means of his individual drive, made it happen -- and accordingly he then reaped praise and profit for this endeavor, which catapulted him into a fabulously successful film-making career. This is the American Dream, and Michael Moore pursued it. He is now rich, he is now wealthy, because he absolutely deserves to be. He will not have to depend upon money confiscated from taxpayers to fund his health care or retirement costs -- he will never be a burden to anyone else. In the course of this process, Moore created value for the consumer public -- he manufactured a product which people voluntarily purchased, everyone going away happy from the transaction. No law or regulation forced anyone to buy tickets to this film (in theaters) or to purchase the DVD: Free Trade At Its Purest. Moore also created work for others. He paid technical folks and others to work for him, to produce this film. He now owns/runs a successful business in this field, having gone on to the series "TV Nation" and "Bowling for Columbine." He achieved business and profit growth, the hallmarks of capitalism -- the only system ever devised which produces abundance. Michael Moore is a monument to private-sector productivity, the literal economic fuel for everything we do and/or have. Moore is a GREAT capitalist, absolutely TERRIFIC in the pursuit of profits, and we should all hope that he merely gets richer and richer and richer -- because that will mean he has made other people happy, without being any sort of burden at all to society or taxpayers.

Summary: Michael Moore for President!
Review: Michael Moore is without a doubt one of the most important American film makers of our time. His films make a statement. They challenge any citizen of the U.S. not to just not take things at face value and to question our goverment, our corporations and our system in general. I encourage anyone interested in Roger and Me to pick up Bowling for Columbine and The Awful Truth or the TV Nation series on DVD. Another great DVD to get is DarkDays. A great documentary on the Homeless in the underground subways of NYC. It is filmed by another extrodinary film maker who litterally went homeless while making his film.

Summary: EXCELLENT MOVIE plus A GREAT DVD EXTRA
Review: This movie launched Michael Moore into fame, released in 1300 cinimas country wide, it did far better than he expected. The movie is the story of Flint, Michigan's down fall after GM downsized their operations in the flint area. Michael Moore tries to find Roger Smith (GM CEO) and along the way shows the social and economic problems, in Flint as a result of the Downsizing. For Michael Moores first ever film, he does a great job. The DVD has a great extra, Commentary by Michael Moore himself. The Commentary explains the troubles he had in making the film, why he wanted to make the film, learning experiances, the help he received from strangers,the movie's success, and the situation in Flint today.
The commentary is well worth listening to. Michael moore made a short film 2-4 years after "Roger and Me" called "Pets or Meat" it is a follow up on the movie, well woth seeing if you can find it.
Michael Moore went on to make the following movies; Canadian Bacon, The Big One and Bowling For Colimbine. as well as writing , Adventures in a TV Nation, Downsize This, Stupid White Men, and Dude Wheres My Country. He has also created the TV shows, TV Nation and The Awful Truth.
This is one talented man, and it all started with "Roger and Me"

Summary: Every potential immigrant should watch this!
Review: Every person who is thinking to immagrate to this country should watch Roger and Me. I came from Soviet Union and because of ideological war (which was big part of cold war)we had totally biased view of US. Propaganda in USSR was so primitive that most of people did not believe it, but they trusted veiled American propaganda. (We did not think at that time that both sides can be wrong). We were listening to rock music, watching Hollywood movies and were extatic about gum. If I have seen movie Roger and Me I would never come to this country. I have to admit that I was one among millions of naive believers in "American Dream". I feel very bitter and cheated but it is my fault and I can not blame anybody else.
Image which America projects all over the world is image of an enlightened country and true democracy. Country where people regularly excersize, eat well and all look like Hollywood stars.
Sorry, they will not tell you about epidemic of obesity and 400LB guys who go for gastric stapling in desparate attempt to reduce their weight.
People reading this can ask, if we are so bad why you guys do not go back to your country. The answer is fairly simple: most of the countries we come from are not any better than this one and when you go through so much struggle and abuse to get settled you do not have any energy left to move again. besides, it also issue of injured pride. You do not want to admit that you made a wrong decision.
I highly recommend this movie to any American who is intested to explore alternative views about their country and also to foreigners contemplating to immigrate to US.
If somebody is not holding loaded gun to your head, promising to murder you and your family, think twice before you come here!

Summary: Not a review of the film, but of the PACKAGING
Review: When will Warner wake up and stop using those CHEAP snapper cases for their DVDs? I would like to think they're passing on the savings to me (wishful thinking). I'm sure the better cases cost only pennies more and, since DVDs (like laserdiscs) will last forever, they should provide a better package!
I received my copy of "Roger & Me" and the DVD was flopping around inside the case, scratched to heck. The spindle/nub that holds the DVD in place was BROKEN. Amazon was nice enough to replace it for me (free return shipping, too!). Once the spindle is damaged in the snapper case, it's as good as trash. At least with better packaging, you can remove the artwork and put it in a replacement case.

Summary: Michael Moore is a jerk
Review: Michael Moore deson't really hate corporate greed. After all he's a rich boy who takes money from walt Disney to make faked up documentaries that express his hatred of America. After his embarassing diatribe at the 2003 Academy Awards how can anyone see him as anything but a public joke. About the only laugh I got out of this movie is that other butthead, Bob Yubnaks, making a fool out of himself.
