Summary: Incredibly disturbing story, but well told through this DVD
Review: I have to admit, I was not ready for the content of this DVD. It left me sickened, shocked and in disbelief that one person could be so "evil". The portrayal of Mike Alig was simply sinister and demonic. The commentary/interviews with his mother were extremely heartfelt and touching. You could really FEEL her pain as she recanted the events that took place. More amazing, was Alig's ability to rebound and recreate himself to stay in the scene and stay fresh.

All in all, this is worth seeing if you have any interest in this particular subject matter. I just don't understand why anyone would want to buy this DVD and continually expose themselves to this story. I guess this just hit below my tolerance level because it was so, so dark...but well told, nonetheless.

Summary: Brilliant! (from the UK)
Review: I saw the film on channel 4 last year. It seemed really bizarre but intriguing at the same time. I bought the book, and it all fell into place. What a tragic but entertaining story. A modern day tragedy i thought.

Summary: The Real Deal
Review: I've seen this documentary on Michael and I just felt so sad. Especially since I was there and knew him, Angel, James, Keoki, etc personally. That was my time for going out clubbing. Although I didn't frequent LimeLite, I did go to all of Gatien's other clubs (Tunnel, USA, Red Zone, etc) I'll admit, yes, ut was a lot of fun, a lot of drugs, but a lot of shadiness amongst all of them. James was a great guy - but he was part of that era of who was the better queen.
I had seen Angel @ Limelite a few days before he was killed - he may have been a drug dealer but he really was the sweetest guy. To find out that Michael did it - I was just in shock. Especially since I was in his apartment a few weeks before. He really did have downward spiral from all the partying and drugs and just everything that was going on.
This movie got as much as they could fit into one documentary - but it could really go on and on.
Not only did Michael kill Angel, he helped kill a great era for clubkids.

Summary: more hugs; less drugs
Review: I've watched both "Party Monster" as well as the documentary "Party Monster - The Shockumentary." While I found both interesting I was primarily struck by how much people effort people have gone in order to tell the world how "fabulous" Michael Alig was in his heyday. One gets the impression that the makers of both films, along with the individuals he once associated with, almost think that it was kind of cute that he murdered a friend, dismembered the body, and then jokingly bragged about doing it to people around him.

In the documentary "Angel" is largely dismissed as a disposable individual, hardly worth missing. The only person who actually shed a tear for him being Angel's brother. I really doubt that Angel's brother would have agreed to be interviewed for the documentary if he had known the way they were going to glorify Michael Alig while simultaneously portray his brother as a desperate drug dealing poseur.

I think the film, rather than the documentary, was actually a bit more balanced. Wilson Cruz, Macaulay Culkin, and Chloë Sevigny were all incredible. Their performances were unbelievably good. Seth Green did OK, though all I could think about every time he came on screen was his appearance on Punk'd (for that matter all I could think of when Dylan McDermott came on stage was Bobby Donnel).

Regardless of the agenda, the two films probably complement each other. If I had to watch one of them again I would see the film rather than the "shockumentary" if for no reason than the opportunity to see Chloë Sevigny again.

I still think it is a bit scary when people justify a person's behavior by almost saying "it wasn't his fault: he drugs made him do it"

Summary: Party Monster- The Shochumentary
Review: If anyone reading this was part of what turned out to become an international club kid scene, reliving the PAST is a kind of disturbing LSD trip down nightmare lane. We have all grown up and left the clubs and drugs behind us. As fate would have it Michael is behind bars and for who knows how long? In my opinion Michael was once a GENIUS. Anyone who could create a never heard of before party atmosphere of surrealism the way he did should have gone on to achieve international stardom! All the party promoter's I have ever met were all extremly talented as well as drug crazed messes. Part favors were a way of life back then. Like a lot of us club kids drugs slowly killed our ambitions and our incentive........all we wanted was more drugs and nothing else really mattered anymore. Drug addiction leading to murder is not a big surprise to this queen and Michael was no different than any other addict who wants what he wants......when he wants it! It's one of those situations where you had to be in that position to understand what having that mindset is like. I admire Michael for his vast accomplishments in such a short time but I certainly do not condone murder for any reason. I found the shocumentary to be very anti-Michael but at times he seems like he is asking for it, even when he is 100% sober and being interviewed in prison. I loved some of the insane interviews with the outrageous people who claim to have once been Michael's friends. His mother was my favorite. That lady is to twisted for television. What I really feel the need to say is that James St. James is obviously taking advantage of Michael's misfortune purely for profit. Without Michael no one would know who the heck James St. James is (much less care!) For unsuspecting viewers to take HIS word about what really happened is like listening to Bush explain away the current weapons of mass destruction situation. It just does not add up. Saying what he thinks people want to hear is what James St. James is all about. One of the features of the DVD is listening to his comments about the shocumentary and he just sickened me. I actually became so enraged by his obviously blatant betrayal that I turned that feature off within 5 minutes. He acts like they were best friend but yet he rips him apart every chance he gets....and he is making money hand over fist by doing so! It's so obvious that Michael's misfortune is a one way ticket for his questionable 15 minutes of fame. If and when Michael is released from prison it will be a very interesting scenario if these two queens ever come face to face again. What I would really like to know is..... did James St. James lose his mind all at once or was it a gradual process? My advice to James would be to take some that dirty money he's making and buy some hair and have an acid peel. I recommend this DVD to give an education about a lifestyle that is history at this point. There is also a VHS about Michael from A&E's Investigative Reports called "Michael Alig: DIsco, Drugs, and Murder" that is fairly interesting but no where near as good as this DVD. I haven't seen the Disneyfied version of Michael's story with Macaulay Culkin but I am sure it will be sooooooo bad that it will become an instant cult classic amongst the former club kids. This story is as disturbing as it is FABULOUS! Kind of like real life wouldn't you say? No happily ever afters in this FAIRY tale!

Summary: Um, Michael....
Review: In many of these reviews there's a lot of use of words like "brilliant" and "genius" being used to describe a person who took some mothers child away from them forever. I'm sure many of you can relate to the clubbing days and the fun. And I'm sure maybe even some of you were actually there for it. I just hope NONE of you EVER have to relate to burying someone that you love because they've been murdered. And then, like salt on a unhealable wound, having to read about the killer being refered to as a "genius". Save words like that for those who truly deserve them.

Michael Alg, if you ever read this, (and I'm sure you will) remember that there are some out there who choose to simply remember you for what you are and for what you always will be. A murderer.

Summary: Buy It, Rent It, LOVE IT.
Review: Listen,

Half of you reading this probably never experienced this kind of lifestyle. Sorry, I disclaim to the ones who have. Aside from the murder, this looks like one hellava time. I understand that drugs are bad (: and all, but for one day wouldn't you like to live like this? JUST ONE DAY? Buy this, rent this and love this movie. It kicks a**!
