Summary: If you have never seen this you are missing out!
Review: Whether you are a fan of bodyBuilding or of Arnold Schwarzenegger, this film is a must have!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Funny and a great insight into Arnold
Review: I have watched this DVD many, many times over the years and still find it very interesting. It's even funnier now that he's the governor of my state. This is a great glimpse into Arnold and his razor sharp intelligence. Most people don't realize how smart Arnold is until you watch this DVD. He dominated the bodybuilding sport not only because of his physique, but also because of the mental dominance he held over the other competitors. A great example of this can be seen on the DVD with how he interacts with Lou Ferrigno, and is able to thoroughly get into Lou's head crushing down just a little more of his confidence. Although Lou's father didn't help either. This is a must watch film for any Arnold fan, or anyone who lives in California and would like to know the type of guy our new Governor is. Oh yeah, and the pot smoking scene is hilarious(read the shirt)!

Summary: The "Man" with the perfect physique
Review: This is a wonderful highlight on the beggining of the body building empire that we are blessed with today. The movie showed how competition is everything and it is mind over matter or should I say "mass". Great movie

Summary: NOT EDITED - Why Do Liberals Lie Still?!
Review: You'll have to forgive the lies of reviewer motek42...saying that this version is edited, that the pot-smoking scene has been removed (because Arnie's a Republican, naturally). Oops, it's STILL in there...ya think that motek42 might be a closet democrat? Nothing against the party historically...it's just their current crop of lying, self-grandeurizing narcissistic representatives will stop at NOTHING to paint the truth any color they want...

If they had one IOTA of Arnie's sense of purpose, perhaps they'd think before they'd prattle, and we wouldn't have such good samaritons as motek42 and his ilk. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME! "It's not a toomah...it's a liberal!" WAY TO GO ARNOLD, GIVE THEM HELL IN SACRAMENTO!!

Summary: Just Saw DVD, Not Edited
Review: I just watched this DVD and can confirm that it is NOT edited. If you really want to see Arnold smoking, eating pastries and carrying girls on his shoulders, it is still here. More importantly, the movie itself looks great as are the extras. One great extra is the making of documentary including a "Pumping Iron" reunion and shots of Arnold's bachelor pad from the 70s. Pretty funny.

Summary: Domination
Review: Here's the deal: this movie IS redundant, as one of the other reviewers states. It will drop you off to sleep unless you are a.) a competitive bodybuilding fan b.) a Schwarzenegger fan that is interested in what makes him who he is or c.) interested in what makes greatness. I am all three, so the movie is interesting to me, although moments of mid-70's corniness still shine through rather brightly at times throughout the movie. Consider the antiquated parts of the movie as a time warp into another time and take themm for what they are. The real beauty of this movie is watching young Arnold dominate so thoroughly ALL his competition. I'm not talking about the condition of his body, which is of course staggering. I am not a bodybuilding judge, so I can't give a truly knowledgable view of whether or not he was truly deserving of a sixth Mr. Universe title. I am talking about the way he shows that he never really doubts that he will win; the way he completely disembowels Ferigno, probably his main competition in this event; the way he dominates the minds of everyone, by the time the movie is over, from competition to the judges. Simply put, this movie is a treatise on competition. It should be shown in boardrooms (other than the sexist values of the days would likely get someone in trouble), locker rooms and classrooms. The man is a competitor - the original Predator AND Terminator. Get this movie - it's inspiring to watch what one can do simply through force of will.

Summary: The original is great, but this version is edited for Arnold
Review: The original VHS version (which I have at home) is a fantastic, very dated, documentary about body-building, starring Arnold right before his big break into movies. However, he bought the rights to the film, so this newly released DVD version was re-edited. Gone is the scene where he smokes pot (he's a republican, after all) and they probably took out some of his nasty comments to other competitors as well, since the original showed him in an unflattering light. Try and see the original. Buying the new DVD only supports his current campaign...

Summary: Arnold S., Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu in their prime!
Review: Here's a collector's item. This is Lou ferringno, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu in their young weight-lifting prime before they became professional actors. Lou Ferrigno was 23 years of age. Of course he went on to do the CBS tv series "The Incredible Hulk" (1978-1982) and recently had made appearances on the CBS tv series "King of Queens" and made a cameo appearance in the film HULK (2003). This is an interesting time because the DVD version of "Pumping Iron" will be released soon. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been an actor since 1970, but body building championships has been his passion. Still a highly respected actor, Mr. Schwarzenegger is now running as a candidate for Governor of California. (He won! Arnold Schwarzenegger is now the 38th Governor of California) Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the age of 28 mostly during "Pumping Iron". Frank Columbu was a good friend of Arnold's. In the film, Columbu was the age of 34. He also become an actor. The film starts wth Franco and Arnold learning ballet so they can learn graceful poising to use when they compete on stage for the championships. Then it's July 29, 1975, 102 days until the Mr. Olympia Championship. Arnold Schwarzenegger is working out at Gold's Gym to win the championship title again. That is what this film is all about. A documentary of Lou Ferrigno, Arnold S. and Franco Columbu and other men seriously working out to the big day, how to gain muscle and pose, and other personal thoughts. Inspiring film. This VHS version runs 87 minutes.

Summary: Long-time coming!
Review: I've still got my old Rhino Video VHS copy of this little gem from about 10 years ago and waited anxiously for this DVD. Required viewing for true Arnold fans (or any bodybuilding or fitness buff), Pumping Iron delivers the goods. The accent is much heavier back then, but Arnold's focus on the future and underlying determination to be the best are very evident.

Subtley egotistical and always charming in a kooky sort of way, Arnold is the centerpiece for bodybuilding's groundbreaking expose'. The old-school bodybuilders are all here: Franco Columbo, Lou Ferrigno, Ed Corney, et. al. This was a time when 6'2" and 240 lbs of lean muscle was a crowd-stopper, unlike today's 5'10 and 300+ lbs freak shows. All athletes sacrifice greatly to achieve their status, but this was the heyday of the sport in my opinion. You'll watch these legends prepare for Mr. Universe and Olympia, go through their triumphs and failures, gain personal insights to their life philosphies, all the while enduring bad mid-70's music, horrendous fashion and attrocious hairstyles! In spite of it all, a very inspiring flick for any would-be bodybuilder.
