Rating: Summary: Gripping Documentary Review: This film had a great perspective of how the days prior to and following 9/11 played out. We've all seen the collection of news spots and commentary. But this film created a whole new set of emotions from its insider view. The opportunity to see the firefighters live out this horrible day brought a whole new level of understanding to this event. I found myself anxiously awaiting the news of whether the "Probie" made it out alive or not. This DVD takes you where no other account has gone. This is a must have!!! I watched it while deployed to the desert for Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom. This reaffirmed my resolve to be in the Middle East. It was powerful and full of emotions that hit you at your core. Don't let this one pass you by. Watch it and experience how evil touched the innocent on an otherwise ordinary morning.
Rating: Summary: Historic Documentary Review: Powerful and gives a the truest feel for how things went down September 11th. I don't believe in reading story after story on this topic but I bought for my personal collection and to one day show my children a piece of history,
Rating: Summary: The most riveting film coverage you will see! Review: Without any doubt Jules & Gedean Naudet's film footage of 9/11 will be the most riveting coverage you will ever see. View these horrific events through the eyes of some very courageous firefighters. I actually felt like I was right THERE! . .You do. . . because you ARE. . . from the FIRST plane crash. . .to walking through the streets of downtown Manhattan. . . to standing within Tower One. . .and finally, feeling the shaking and the horrible collapse of both towers. This is a bird's eye view of history that will keep you glued until the final credits roll. We didn't see this footage in our NEWS coverage, so get ready to head to the front lines and gain a deeper appreciation for those whose careers take them where devils fear to tread. Yes, I do admit watching this documentary will leave you reeling and dealing with a kaleidoscope of emotions ,BUT the courage of the American Spirit shines through these darkest of days. Rating: Summary: Moving. Review: What can you say. This is an incredible piece of filmaking. Very moving and heart-wrenching.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This is probably one of the best accounts out on the market. This is the most griping and hair raising accounts from a firefighters point of view. I highly recommend this as a must have for your collection of this historical event.
Rating: Summary: Mindblowing Review: This is a must have. Much better than the CNN "America Remembers" tape of what happened. Much more footage than expected. Over 2 hours of "open mouth" awe footage. Deals with September 11 rather than the aftermath. But if you want that, this tape has that too. It starts off a little slow with the training of the firemen beforehand, but when they make it up to September 11. Hold on! You will be shocked of what they caught on camera. No blood and guts but you hear firsthand what the deaths and injuries looked like. Keep a box of Kleenex near by when watching. After watching this, it made me appreciate that much more of the bravery of NYPD. Also, the cameramen brothers bravery who helped us to find out what really went on at ground zero.A MUST SEE!!
Rating: Summary: Heroes All Review: No other documentary about the terrible event could ever come close to this one. As an inadvertent work of history, it is many things--first and foremost a tribute to those firemen who without a second thought plunged upward into the staircases of the Towers. Think about it: 60 pounds of gear, about 70 stories to walk up, requiring about a minute per level to traverse when weighed down. Somehow they kept going, helping those poor victims back down to safety... The first part documentary focuses on the probationary period of a young fireman named Tony. The filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Daudet were "chosen" in some serendipitous way to cover this young man's rite of passage--and through his story, tell us the story of that horrific day through the firemen's eyes. The choosing couldn't have been better. When the towers were struck, Tony was ordered to stay behind at the station, in case further attacks happen. Gedeon was separated from his brother, who was with the firemen when the first plane struck. He trains his camera on the young man in the deserted firehouse. As Tony's watching the television, we see his anxiety and desire to act and help in some way. Eventually he disappears with a retired company chief who's come in to help. Late in the afternoon, everyone is accounted for but Tony. Then he just shows up. It's amazing: this fire company, of all those who converged on the scene, didn't suffer a single casualty. Jules Daudet kept his cameras running in the lobby as the first tower fell. As you are shown, those rescue personnel in that lobby escaped death literally by seconds as a hurricane of debris blew the lobby windows out. Jules succeeds with the others to regroup outside in the shadow of tower one. When it implodes and the debris comes crashing through the street in a tidal wave of concrete dust and papers, there's a chilling moment when silence falls, and a stray piece of paper from the tower bearing numbers becomes stuck to his lens...This is a moving & great documentary.
Rating: Summary: Excellent documentary Review: Absolutely moving. Chronicles the WTC attacks from the point of view of FDNY on the scene, not the press. Even though I thought I'd seen and read everything there was to know about 9/11, this really shed some light on what the firefighters went through. The scenes from inside Tower 1 coupled with the madness on the surrounding streets, plus the harrowing footage of being in the rubble when the towers collapsed make this film incredible. The bravery and cameraderie of the FDNY is awe-inspiring, and the film makers did a great job of not making the documentary "exploitive". A MUST SEE!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent documentary Review: This is an excellent documentary. Two French brothers almost accidentally filmed the most important events of 9-11 in New York. It contains images that can't be seen anywhere else. The number of coincidences that led the brothers to film everything that they filmed on that day is amazing. They were exactly where the action was happening at the right time. It's also incredible that both brothers and all the firefighters in the firestation where they were working survived. This documentary shows exactly what happened in New York on that day from the point of view of the people who lived it, in the streets and also inside of the World Trade Center. It's really worth watching it.
Rating: Summary: 9/11 A day never to be forgotten Review: In a word.....spellbinding. You will watch this film countless times because you cannot take it all in after only one viewing. Being a New Yorker, this hit home - my wife is caught in the background in one scene staggering across the street, injured - and the loss of many people I knew who worked in the WTC or firefighters who responded. This gives you the background of life in a New York City firehouse and comes closest to capturing the scope of the September 11th disaster than any other film I have seen. I recommend this DVD and others on this subkect to be mandatory viewing for ANYONE who is opposed to the War on Terrorism. Come to New York and talk to enough people, watch this film and you will come away with a completely different view of the situation. This should be mandatory viewing in all high schools and colleges.
