Review: Not one of the more better wrestling documentaries, but still ok. I first viewed this when I was out all night with some friends last year, came home at the crack of dawn, turn on the tv, and BAM! there it is. I'm all for wrestling documentaries, what very few are out there. Southern Discomfort focuses on the South of Indie wrestling following around a bunch of outta shape southern masked wrestlers as they put on shows for people in gyms. Iran Shiek & Bob Armstrong do a good job of explaining some stories, especially Armstrong who I thought brought a lot to the table, and had a lot of interesting stories to explain. That was probably the only good thing about the movie. If you're looking for a great wrestling documentary, pass on this one and buy Beyond The Mat Director's Cut on DVD. BTM explains so much more and IMO is the greatest wrestling documentary ever made and one of the greatest documentarties every made for that matter. I would only buy this documentary for the reason of just having & owning documentaries to study if you're serious about enterning into the world of filmmaking & directing as I am, but I don't really think it's a good film overall. Maybe if they did some background on Southern Wrestling like Georgia Championship & NWA and interviewed some key figures like Arn Anderson, Dusty Rhodes, Vern Gagne, etc etc it mighta been a little better, but they probably only given a meager budget and had to do there best with it, but even still I think they coulda done better.... So anyone enought babbling outta me for Southern Discomfort, if like documentaries go ahead & buy it, ...
