Summary: I recorded it off TV in the late 80s
Review: Actually, the first time I saw Hard Day's Night was in 1989. I was only nine years old at the time, and my grandma who had cable (which was a status symbol in those days) recorded it off the Disney Channel. My favourite part of the film is during the backstage interviews, and when Ringo is asked by a reporter whether he is a mod or a rocker, he simply replies he's a "mocker". When Paul is asked about his relationships with anyone from John Lennon to Paul's own father, he simply replies, "No, actually we're just good friends." I watched this film quite a few times until a couple years ago when my mom was cleaning house and got rid of the tape it was on!!
I was so mad about that. Oh well. I can always get another copy.

Summary: A genuine time-capsule.
Review: 'A Hard Day's Night' is marvellous for four reasons:
1. It was made by Richard Lester, who, along with fellow American Joseph Losey, was the best director of British movies in the 1960s, and who gives the film a thrilling jump-cut, black and white immediacy.
2. It is truly Surreal, not just in gags like the fab four running alongside a moving train, or in John Lennon's backstage chat with a woman that sees his identity obliterated; but in the way the Beatles as an entity transform banal reality - hotels, canteens etc. - into something magical and new by their presence.
3. Because it celebrates being in a gang - with all their games, jokes, one-liners, private language, four mumbling individuals achieve a sublime group eloquence: when they are seperated, their identities are endangered and undermined. The scene in which a deserting Ringo meets a young boy, another exile from a gang, is the key to the film's heart. The Beatles are like four boys, on the run from their 'parents' who keep wanting them to behave and do their homework (e.g. staying in to reply to fanmail).
4. For capturing a moment in history, when fusty old Imperial England (in the shape of the Bowler Hat man) gave way to the Swinging Sixties. Sacred cows, such as the Queen and the war, are routinely mocked, usually in John's bath. An ex-IRA man becomes a peer, a car-thief chauffeurs the police. But the superficialities and selfishness of the new Britain are also seen clearly.
There's some music too.

Summary: This is a great movie...
Review: This movie is great. I am 15 & just love it. I will say some of it is a little oudated, but thats because it was made in 64, & for that time this was a awsome movie. This movie is too cool & is a classic. One of my favorites.

Summary: Funny
Review: This movie is the funniest video in my collection. The Beatles shine as they hit the movies in their first original film. You'll laugh at the 4 beatles as they perform at thier funniest. Paul's grandfather makes for some twists and turns throughout the movie. And the concert and songs sung through out the movie will make you want to buy the CD and listen to it again and again.

Summary: A Hard Day's Night on dvd
Review: It does seem odd that A Hard Day's Night is currently not available on dvd. It was released on dvd in 1997, but just for a short while. I was able to find a copy a couple of years ago after searching for awhile. In the past I have seen it in a few used cd shops and online auctions such as Amazon and Ebay. So for those of you who want a copy on dvd, do some searching and you will find.

Summary: Just plain fun!
Review: For everyone who has loved the Beatles, this is a must see video! It is brilliantly directed by Lester, the first "music video" I can ever remember. It is zany and poignant at the same time. It is a joy, but also brought on much melancholia . Such energy, what a joy to see the moptops again, happy and full of potential. As I watched it I couldn't help think of John's life. If he only knew how many people miss him and love him to this day. See this film, all you baby-boomers. You'll be longing for those days once again.

Summary: Good Music, But Can You Hold Out Between Songs?
Review: I know I'm going to get slews of misguided "unhelpful" votes, but the truth must be heard. Contrary to some comments below, I did go into this movie with a open mind. I heard all about how energetic it was, and I knew that I would love the music. I wasn't expecting "Citizen Kane"-- just some fun. After about ten minutes, I would have walked out of the theater if I hadn't been with a friend. This movie is a dated mess. What must have seemed like refreshing "hey, we're a brand new generation" cheekiness then, now just comes across as annoying brattiness. Sort of a G-rated "Clockwork Orange". Plus, I don't expect the Beatles to be actors, but couldn't they have surrounded themselves with some talent instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel for guys who mug at the camera like they're in a grade school play? They should release a version with all the "acting" edited out and just show the music sequences, which are wonderful (and far too infrequent-- or maybe they just seemed that way).
