Summary: Great Classic but poor DVD
Review: This is without a doubt, one of Terry Gilliam's best film. The story is an imaginative one with an all-star cast. A great classic that everyone should see. Unfortunately the Criterion version of this DVD was a very dissapointing. The transfer was below average and the sound is probably the worst sounding DVD i own. I even tried to turn up the volume to give a theatrical feeling, but still could not ignore the poor recording. For a $30 Criterion disc, I was expecting more features, better quality and a behind the scenes look at the movie but again was dissapointed. One of the main reasons why I bought this DVD is because Amazon.com advertises this as a "DTS stereo" disc which is completely misleading. This dvd is not even Dolby Digital 5.1. I would recommend saving your money and wait for the regular version.

Summary: cosmological
Review: This excellent movie is sure to rivet up all those science fiction fantasies of travelling without moving. Great fun and humour for those altered states of being - where the joy of life lies in being always young.

Summary: Leonard Maltin doesn't get it.
Review: Time Bandits is not a comedy (except in the classic sense, where order is restored at the end of the film.) Whimsy, satire, and fantasy without gags? This film is high art, in my book.

Summary: The transformation of classics to dvd are tremendous.
Review: It deserves more stars just for the movie alone, we all know that. The transformation to dvd was like i said, Tremendous. the sound the picture...it all just flows together to finally come together as one of the great classics of my time. I love the comentary , how you can just go through the movie as various people disect every scene piece by piece. its also great to see all these great actors in one movie. I recomend this movie to everyone any age.....great movie growing up with, and gotta love them dwarfs

Summary: More extras, please?
Review: I guess you could call me spoiled... The first DVD I purchased with commentary was The Thing, with commentary by Kurt Russell and John Carpenter. Its like eavesdropping on a private get together, as they get into great detail on each scene and production stories. They are in the same room at the same time, and you have a good time listening. With Time Bandits, you get commentary from three ex-Monty Pytons, but none of its funny!!The reason being, they are all separate tracks, they're not together. They are all quite somber in their different takes on the film. I was expecting a Python-esque give and take session. Also ,my only other Criterion disc is Silence of the Lambs, which not only has commentary, but also features deleted scenes, FBI profiles, serial killer confessions, just an unbelievable amount of stuff. Time Bandits only has the commentary, the trailer, and a photo gallery. This is a really great film, but I felt a little cheated, as Criterion packs their other releases with so much more. That said, the film itself is a classic boys rite of passage. Anyone who saw the film as a child in its general release Im sure was just as unhappy as Kevin when hes taken away from Sean Connery towards the middle. A modern fairy tale. The standard DVD might be a better purchase, however. And does anyone know whats up with the color bars??

Summary: GILLIAM is a true visionary. . .
Review: Brought to you by the same director as 12 MONKEYS and BRAZIL (to name only a few), TIME BANDITS is a real hoot! Don't go in looking for western film-making, because you won't find it. What you will find is a really fun and funny movie!

Summary: The new Time Bandits DVD is awesome!
Review: Great to see this on DVD. This DVD has some of the best commentaries I've ever heard. Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Craig Warnock, John Cleese, and David Warner all have really interesting things to say about the movie. Picture and sound quality is top-notch. Run out and buy this one.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This is one of my favorite children's movies. A rare breed that can also be enjoyed by adults and isn't sappy and cloying like most kid's movies. The commentary by Mr. Gilliam and the actors is wonderful and revealing.

Summary: An adventure across time
Review: I especially liked this movie because the young actor who played Kevin wasn't directed to portray his character as you see young kids portrayed in todays movies. He wasn't a smart, foul mouthed, talking back to parents type of kid. Right off the bat that was refreshing to me as I am quite put off by smart aleky disrespectful portrayals of children especially in the prescense of adults. He was full of mischief to be sure but in a innocent and charming way.

The jaunt trough time was very well done from a technical standpoint and they seemed to spare no expense on the presentation of the different time periods and costumes. The famous people they encounter along the way, were quite interesting, and funny, and it appears that a stab at accuracy was attemped to at least put these characters in their historical setting as far as what is generally know about them. Besides the character of Kevin, the very nicely done performances of the entire cast is worth mentioning but space prohibits me from singling them all out. There was not a dull moment in the entire movie as there is always something interesting going on. I recommend this film as it is good entertainment for the entire family. I used to have a Laser Disc version and remember the Dolby soundtrack being very nice also.

Summary: Gotta have it!
Review: Finally! Time Bandits is out on DVD. It's my all-time favorite funny movie, and it's a 20-year old movie! Army of Darkness is an extremely close second.
