Summary: Graphically done with such disturbance.A classic.
Review: Son of Sam,Ted Bundey,John Wayne Gacey,Ed Guinn. These were the people that put fear into the lives of everyone around them.A few years after the Charles Manson murders,A film that I considered a wake up call to horror films came out of nowhere.Shot in documentary film style,"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was the kind of film I would look up to as the kind of horror film that shouldn't be or couldn't be ignored.A group of young people, traveling through the back roads of Texas fall into complete terror when they are terrorized by a group of cannibals. The main psycho is a man named Leatherface who wears a mask made out of someone elses face, weilding a chainsaw making meat out of human prey. The rest of his family are even more psychotic. Each of the main characters(the victims)are each treated in such ways of complete terrifying situations, that reality for one of them loses it's grip.Marilyn Burns, the female lead is Sally.A victim that probably will have a pretty disturbed life after the events that takes place in this film. The actress herself was probably disturbed making this film."The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is not a horror film to disturb just because it is a horror film. Some of these events happen.Something that even disturbs me.Tobe Hooper enters our heads reminding us that the world we live in is packed with very disturbing events. With "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" I would rate this one of the best horror classics of the 1970s.

Summary: Gritty and disturbing
Review: Like many other reviewers of this film, I too had heard a lot of hype before seeing this film. And, like most of the reviewers here, I was not disappointed when I rented this movie.

"Gritty" is the best word I can think of to describe this movie. From inside the teenagers' van to upstairs in Grandpa's room, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is filmed in such a way that the viewer can't help but feel claustrophobic - and that just adds to the experience.

This film is not as bloody as one might think, and it doesn't need to be. Its fright factor relies on the viewer's association with the victims and the horror they experience. And, the "bad" characters are strange but seem very real. That's what makes this movie even scarier...these could be your neighbors. Honestly, when I travel to different areas of the country and pass a farmhouse - I can't help but think of this creepy movie.

The one drawback (and it is very minor) is the fact that one might be initially distracted by the teenager "protagonists" 70s attire.

Summary: A Masterful exercise in horrific suspense
Review: The very definition of horror-suspense, if you've not seen this 1974 classic by Tobe Hooper - go watch it now. Loosely based on the exploits of Ed Gein, the basic story is how a group of teenagers, driving those Texas to find the house of an old relative, run into a family of cannibalistic slaughterhouse owners.

However, the story is pretty irrelevant here, as Hooper's skill of building a sense of impending doom and despair from the first frame, are what make the film. Crafted with incredible set pieces (Leatherface's house is a chilling nightmare of skulls and bones from previous victims) and featuring one of the longest 'female in peril' chase sequences recorded on screen, you won't forget this movie in a hurry!

The title is perhaps misguiding, suggesting the film would be full of gore and carnage in every frame, which isn't the case, but the odd moments of extreme violence are built up so well that when they come, they hit you like a brick.

Any horror fan should see this - in fact, most fans of film should watch this one, if nothing else to see just how well a horror film really can be made, without the need for bukets of blood.

Summary: Not half as gruesome as one might think...
Review: "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" starts off promisingly with two skinned corpses being tied to a gravestone - but then it all slows down to a over-average, though (of course) nasty teenage-slasher movie. The story about some rather dumb teenagers being killed by a family of homicidal maniacs in rural Texas is rather neglectable, but there are still some scenes in this movie you won't forget easily: for example, when Kirk dares go into the mysterious farmhouse and suddenly finds himself face to face with impressive killer Leatherface, or poor disabled Franklin being chainsawed by Leatherface jumping out of the bushes all of a sudden - this really lets you know Tobe Hooper is a master in handling shock effects. All the time watching TCM I sat waiting for the ultimate gore scene with lots of bowels flying around and people being dismembered in a horrible manner, but my hopes were to be disappointed. It's not half as yukky as all those guardians of moral claim it to be, but it's kind of fun anyway. There's one thing I must complain about, and it's the very amateurish realisation of this movie; at times, it feels like it was filmed with a handycam or something, shaky and blurred as it is. See it to be able to say you've seen it, but there's not much to it. If you want a good horror movie, check out Raimi's "Evil Dead" - a classic as well.

Summary: The all-time best horror flick along with The Exorcist
Review: If you're looking for a disturbing indie cult movia, this is the one you're looking for. I don't know one person that hasn't freaked out watching it. It really works better watching it all by yourself in the dark. I've known girls that start to cry in a desperate way while watching it. Gee, this is a great movie, but a sick one too, so if you find grotesque murders to be offensive, stay away from it.

Summary: Unparalleled horror
Review: Probably the scariest film I've ever seen. It's all atmosphere, due largely to the documentary style camera work and the understated performances from the actors. You could swear you were watching reality. The utter depravity and disregard for life are bone chilling. Though there is little actual on-screen violence, the overwhelming sense of dread and the very real fear on the faces of the victims can't help but grab you. Side by side with "Night of the Living Dead" as the great fright movies of all time.

Summary: One of the scariest films of all time
Review: Considering how long ago this was made and the shoestring budget it was done on, this would have to rank as one of the greatest horror/suspense films ever. what really terrifies is the scenes end right before something really ugly is going to happen and we are left with our minds to deal with what might be happening. Like the classic scene where the Leatherface is carrying the squirming girl into the room and the camera focuses on the meat hook. After she is "hung" up, we have the Leatherface firing up his chainsaw and her desperate squirming and terror is left to our imaginations as to what happens next. The only way this could've been even more terrifying is if the characters were a little more "normal". Like Grandpa is too corpselike. But you can almost imagine people like this existing somewhere out there in the sticks waiting for you...........

Summary: 5 stars is not enough!
Review: Another gem for the low budget, cult collection.

TCM is a great horror film PERIOD!

Leather face and his family is a family you will never forget.

Forget the spin off movies from TCM. The first is the best and only the best will do for NIPSEY!

BUY IT AND YOU WILL ENJOY!

Summary: one of the few truly disturbing films i've seen
Review: this movie was disturbing. that is the only word that can be used. i had heard that this was the best film ever, but its reputation is greater than it should. dont get me wrong, it was something to think about, but if your like me and prefer blood and gore (friday the 13th, halloween), than you may find it boring.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: the art of disturbing
Review: I was very wrong, before I saw it, I thought it would be some kind of pointless gorefest ( here in Germany, it has that reputation, perhaps according to the strong arm of censorship - never buy a movie here, if you are lucky you might get the half!), but when it got on my screen I began to understand it's legendary status. This isn't fun to watch, not at all, and if you need a funny slasher film to watch with some beer, stay far away! This one will make your belly ( and your brain ) rotate and all without gore. Yes it's cruel, but here cruelty becomes art! I found myself turning my head from the screen because I just didn't want to see what was going on. This happens once in let's say 10 Years! The Acting is over the top, from the Victims ( which are no stupid lambs as in many other films ) to the Villans ( which are far too powerful to lead this movie to an happy end ). If you rather like Scream than the Blair Witch Project, avoid it. If you love original movies, you should get it as fast as you can!
