Review: 1 of the great horror flicks ever

Summary: Dead still lives on as best of horror
Review: This is the film that started it all. Horror movies have mocked it since--with few coming close to its "raw" terror. George Romero's Night of the Living Dead is probably the best B-movie ever made and is still the most stylish, sinister horror flick produced. It isn't the story per se that makes Night a classic. Night chronicles the war waged by seven average joes holed up in a remote farmhouse with little power and less hope as an army of flesh-eating zombies approach. Ironically, it is the lack of high-tech special effects that make Night unforgettable. Romero's shoestring production values(such as black and white film and seemingly amateur actors) makes the entire proceeding feel real, not like a movie. And the carnage, while gruesome, is remarkably restrained in its overall use, making Night even more realistic. It is also noteworthy that Night made a bit of film history in its casting of an African American as its leading man. With the exception of Sidney Poitier, most 60's black actors were never portrayed as powerful, let alone given the helm of a movie. Duane Jones's character is resoruceful and powerful and is a forceful presence that easily dwarfs his acting counterparts. All told, Night still lives on as the best of the horror genre.

Summary: THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE
Review: This movie is simply one of the best ever made. Unfortunately many see it as just another zombie movie and don't look beneath the surface to see what this film is really saying. The movie made in the late 60's reveals so much about what was happening in this country at that time. Vietnam, Civil Rights movement, etc. Ahead of it's time in both social relevance and gore it reflects on one of the most crucial decades of the 20th century.

Summary: The original zombie film.
Review: This is a great film if you love classic horror. The fact that it's black and white really doesn't matter at all. It's still gross. The only real problems are that the arguing between the living characters gets old fast, and the ending is really lame.

Summary: Scared the heck out of me
Review: Having seen this movie for the first time in 1998, I was surprised at how graphic certain scenes were. Overall, for a low budget film, it is truly a classic. Surprise ending.

Summary: George Romero:Genius at work
Review: It doesn't get much better than Night of the Living Dead as far as zombie movies go. I'm gonna have to call it one of the best horror movies ever made. Its probably the best of the Romero Dead-Trilogy. Dawn of the Dead is really good as well. Day of the Dead is pretty good too,but nothing compares to Romero's first effort:Night of the Living Dead. What a film! Warm Regards, Bill Robinson,Genius at Work

Summary: The seminal zombie flick
Review: George A. Romero, a young director from Pennsylvania, had no idea that this low-budget film about a toxic spoor from Venus which brings the dead on earth back to life to eat the living would be so big. The appeal lies not only in the still-frightening zombies' insistence on getting in to the house where the heroes are locked in and bickering amongst themselves, but also in the relationships between the characters who are fighting for their lives. Needless to say, problems arise within and without. This film is a landmark in the horror genre and contains some gruesome scenes of carnage that will still frighten today.

Summary: A Masterful Horror movie
Review: This is it. George A. Romero's absolute milestone in movie making, and his debut as a director. It's amazing what a talented director can do with almost nothing for a budget. This is one of the most intense and shocking horror films of all time. After viewing this movie, I felt numb, slightly sick, and completely drained. Definately not a "feel good" movie, but extreemly well-made. It was followed, ten years later, by Dawn of the Dead. Also an excellent movie, with the gore being even more gruesome and a cheesy but enjoyable score.

Summary: Zombies' characteristics differ from the sequels
Review: In a lot of ways, you can't tell the dead are really dead, unless they give a blank expression, naked, or have no skin. The way the graveyard zombie acted was a million times different than any other zombie in the sequels (except for the graveyard zombie in the remake who actually talked, who was played by Tom Savini (director of the remake, make-up artist in 2 of the sequels, and actually played one of the main bikers in Dawn of the Dead, another one of Romero's films) if my memory hasn't failed me). The characteristics of most of the zombies are different than in the sequels, which is the main difference. I'd say only one bad spot in the film, which filmed in different variation could have made it 'un-bad'. As the movie shows how widespread the disaster is, hostility and friction between the oldest men in the rural house jumps through the roof, giving never-dull moments. Terrific acting shown by main characters. The Newsroom scenes on the television gave a good feeling of the situation along with the film being in black and white. Dawn of the Dead is the sequel, but how come it hasn't been remade? Because it wasn't required in the contract? Doh!!!!!!
