Summary: Do Not Buy this version of "Night of the Living Dead"
Review: After purchasing this 2 disc set and watching the 30th Anniversary Edition I find myself asking the following questions: Why are the new sequences inserted into the film so badly? (the joins stand out a mile). Why on earth did they take a decision to reuse the graveyard zombie as a "feature zombie" - the bloke who plays him is now 30 years older and believe me you *can* tell the difference! Why is the lip sync on the 30th Anniversary Edition (in particular the new sequences) more poorly dubbed than a Japanese Godzilla flick? This film *was* made in English wasn't it? Why did they add an Epilogue? The bald bloke ain't no Anthony Perkins from the end of Psycho and his dialogue adds nothing to the Living Dead trilogy. Why didn't they add an additional soundtrack to the "98 version" which contained the original musical score? Isn't that the sort of thing that DVD was invented for? and my final question: WHY did I waste my money on this? In defence of this product I have to say that I quite like the new soundtrack but I shall never watch the 30th anniversary version again - '98 version all the way, but to be honest I wish I'd saved some cash and just bought the original version!

Review: This 30th anaversary edition is the great film we all know and love ruined by some sub par acting. In addition to the poorly done new sceens a new sound track has been added. The sound track is good and goes well with the film but the new sceens ruin this classic. The picture and songund quality have been improved which,some would argue is a bad thing,in my opinion realy help. i give it 3 stars because it is a good film but the new sceens are a discrace.

Review: To the extent that you, the potential Amazon.com customer, only reads the first couple of reviews before spending your hard-earned dollars, let me tell you something about this movie (at least until I am sent to the back of the reviewing line). This is NOT Night of the Living Dead. George Romero had nothing to do with this version. Instead, some of the folks who were involved with the original NoTLD (primarily John Russo) decided that it would be a fine idea to remove key footage -- whole chunks -- from the original, because there was a lot of talking and talking is kind of boring, right? They decided to jettison the ending and add some ridiculous subplot about a crazy preacher, because hey, shouldn't the original NoTLD have had a crazy preacher? Then, with all of these freed-up minutes at their disposal, John and Company decided to shoot some new footage, add some new plotlines, and completely deviate from the original. Never mind that the acting is bad, the writing is bad and that the new scenes are incomprehensible. Then, because they were on quite a roll, they decided to add a new goth score to the movie. You know, to jazz it up. Make it hip for the kids today. This would all be very funny if those involved were not so serious and deluded. This is a money-grubbing act, pure and simple, and shows no respect for the artistry in Romero's film. If you must have it (for laughs, for curiosity), try to find it used. If you can find the Elite DVD Special Edition of NoTLD -- buy it. Elite knows how to do these things and the version contains a pristine transfer of the original NoTLD. It is well worth your money. Russo's concoction is simply unacceptable and he should be sentenced to a life of watching "Patch Adams" for his crimes against the moviegoing public.

Summary: 30th Aniversary DVD review
Review: This review is meant to tell you about the DVD version of the 30th Aniv. Edition. The movie itself is quite good, and the video transfer looks good as i'd expect on DVD, the only problem is the sound for the ENTIRE movie is off so it looks like the movie was filmed in another language and dubbed in english. The new scenes are quite stupid as well, so my advice is, if you NEED a dvd copy, just get the cheapest you can find, the extras in the 30th aniv. (scenes, video, etc) arent very good let alone good enough to compensate for the HORRENDOUS sound transfer or extra cost above a normal DVD version. So just get the cheapest copy you can find.

Summary: Night of the Living Dead 30th Anniversery Edition
Review: After reading most of the negative reviews and currently owning Night of the Living Dead on VHS I purchased this DVD and was pleasently surprised. Let me try to address the negative comments first. Many reviewers thought the grainy picture and old audio were better suited for this movie. My suggestion in that case would be to stick with VHS since DVD enhances these flaws. Making an argument to keep the poor video quality and audio would equate to having CDs recorded in AAD where you still here the tape hiss only worse. I myself prefer ADD where the original analog recording is re-mastered digitally. Another case is the Scarface DVD which appeared to be copied right from VHS to DVD. The quality is awful which really took away from a great movie. Yes on that DVD you can hear the tape hiss and it was only two channel Dolby. Secondly I heard alot of bad reviews about the new footage. I thought it was actually good but the preacher was quite annoying that is why I gave this DVD 4 stars instead of 5. The new soundtrack was as good as the original if not better and fit the movie well. The audio was awsome and blows away the collectors addition THX because that is in mono Dolby this is true 5.1 Dolby surround. I also liked the fact that this edition came with the original uncut feature for the NOTLD purest with the '98 soundtrack. This is a great value and excellent DVD package. A must have for any true DVD fan and NOTLD fan. The picture quality is the best I have ever seen for this movie. This movie will please any DVD enthusiast that is a fan of Night of the Living Dead and really likes to see the DVD technology utilized to the utmost.

Summary: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
Review: This is one "deluxe anniversary edition" you should avoid at all costs. Those familiar with the original masterpiece will recoil in horror to see how it has been altered. The new footage is senseless and poorly filmed and does not match the original image at all. It really detracts the pacing and tight structure of the original film. Try the collector's edition re-mastered in THX. That's all you should consider...this was an ill-concieved attempt to cash in for the 30th anniversary. Nothing more.

Summary: Night Of the Living Dread
Review: I borrowed this froma buddy at work and it is amazing. But not in a good way. I'm amazed the original group involved w/ the movie (excluding George) could ever do what was done to this. The new scenes are unwatchable. In the commentary they babble on on how seamless they are implemented. But they don't discuss how BADLY they were acted. I gave this "new" movie two stars for the following, ONE: Clarity, TWO: the music is great but it doesn't fit with the feel I've known this movie to possess. If you are looking to throw some money away, this is a way to do it I guess ... At least it's legal.

Summary: Right off the Living Dead
Review: I know this DVD sounds great from the description (added scenes, restored, 2 disc set etc.) but be warned, it's not the real thing. For a start the 15 minutes of added footage is NEWLY FILMED and awful. Not only that, it suffers from really bad lip-sync problems that make it practically unwatchable. Plus some original scenes have actually been removed. The other disc contains the un-butchered original but unfortunately has a new music score. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the scratchy, corny original. Surely a Special Limited Edition should include the untouched original version ? ...If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Summary: Gimme The Grainy
Review: As a die-hard fan of the original NOLD (and its sequels including Tom Savini's charming 1990 remake)I was not disappointed by this 30th Anniversary revamping. Reason being, the idea itself is the most disappointing aspect: "hey let's take our little classic and ruin it!" I am pleased to see George Romero had nothing to do with this experiment. And that's exactly what it is to me, an experiment that was bound to fail from its very inception. But I was very eager to watch it with an open mind, knowing full well it will never replace the original masterpiece--in my heart OR on late-night Halloween tv airings. It's a good alternative to those of us who know the original line-by-line, shot-by-shot but I still heartily recommend purchasing the Elite company's remastered (and unchanged) edition that was released in 1995.

Review: What happened? Night of the living dead is one of the all time classics of horror.This limited edition of only 15000 (thank god) is terrible. Terrible soundtrack, terrible making of featurrette, terrible new scenes, etc.Oh and that score for the original come on what are they thinking. No wonder these where the people who brought you Santa Claws.The only good thing to come out of this was that unbelievable crystal clear quality of the original. Given that quality, a score approved by director romero, and commentary with romero youve got a winner. Fortunately, one already exists.Dont waste your time on this one.
