Summary: YOU'LL EITHER LOVE IT OR HATE IT?
Review: Well, I hate it. This movie made no sense at all. I got this movie based on the reviews on [amazon.com], plus it had to be on at least five or so lists as, "the most disturbing cinema I've seen". Most disturbing? More like most confusing. I guess some of the people that make up these lists are kids. The fx were not that great and I was expecting to see a little more of Deborah Harry(preferably naked). She was hardly in the picture. There were scene's of endless discussion and the only good stuff in the movie was shown on a fuzzy t.v., that you could hardly see. Don't waste your time and money on this, instead go get an Ilsa flick. I've seen Troma movies that were better and more entertaning than this. The reason for two stars is that I do like James Woods and think he did a great job with a boring script. If this is the best Cronenberg flim(as some other reviewers wrote)than god help us.

Summary: A WORK OF ART
Review: This is truly David Cronenberg's best film ever. The story, the acting, and the special-effects are mind blowing. This is truly a well crafted film put together by a true craftsman. James Woods plays his role to a T, as Max Renn as the Civic TV president and CEO, who pursues the Bizarre but violent Videodrome which soon overcomes him. Along with ... Debbie Harry who also is overcome by the Videodrome..This film is not for everyone either you will love or Hate it.

Summary: Death to Videodrome - Long live the new flesh
Review: This is a chilling tale of what the future of TV could do and one man's descent into fantasy world by watching a 50 second clip of a snuff movie . It is a complicated enough journey into seeing where reality lies and where fantasy begins . As always with most Cronenberg films there is a lot of gorey parts to keep you satisfied . As for the ending ( which I don't want to give away ), it leaves a permanent mark in your mind and leaves you wanting more

Summary: Television is EVIL!
Review: It doesn't matter what you have to do to see this movie, just see it as soon as possible. David Cronenberg made this film way back in 1983, back when t.v. was still somewhat good. The message? Television is the root of all evil and perversion, and will only lead to our demise.Needless to say, this movie is incredible. It defines that genre of film that most of us just like to call "weird." This film has no limits in where it takes the viewer. I felt like I was on some sort of bad acid nightmare the whole time I was watching it. Say what you will about James Woods, but if this was his only movie, he'd be the finest actor of all time. Nobody else could have done what he does here. Add to his performance an incredible performance by a beautiful (and naked) Deborah Harry (singer for Blondie), and you've got one of the scariest, yet most thought provoking movies of all time. This movie also wins my award for the finest ending in a movie I have ever seen. James Woods says his final line with such conviction that it just adds a huge level of "Wow" to the movie. Once again, do anything to see this movie. It will probably NEVER be on network television, so buy or rent it. I'm still saddened that there is no DVD version. This movie could have used it.

Summary: WHAT AN AWFUL FILM!!!
Review: Okay, so i got nothing better to do on a friday night, so i take out the VIDEODROME tape (out-of-print unrated version with scenes not seen in theaters or on this edition) that my friend's mom let me borrow. It is such a horrible movie. Weak plot, bad acting, BUT ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER! It's so unique, and even though you wanna turn off the VCR and watch CLERKS or something, you keep watching, because it keeps getting more and more intriging. This film is not for all tastes, though. Once the movie is over, the only thing you can say is WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!? "Death to Videodrome, long live the New Flesh"

Summary: Video killed the radio star (and everybody else too)
Review: The message of the film - "TV can make murderers outta people" - is taken to literal, hallucinogenic extremes. In this movie, literally, a TV set and a VHS tape "turn" James Woods into a mass murderer just for the sake of profit. Doesn't make sense, does it? Guess you'll have to see it.

Summary: philosophical film...
Review: Firstly it is pretty exciting movie. After watching this movie I wondered if I was in the real world or if I was in the world which was created by the video. There should be a lot of messages which are behind this senario but I found that the directer might warn us - not to rely on the media or technology too much because they can take place of human beings. Now "video" is not a new thing but it is rather gatting old one. However what if we see this as computer or something? It is possible. Who can put the period as the finare of this film?

Summary: Turn on to Videodrome
Review: For folks who aren't devoted fans of Cronenberg, mention "Videodrome" and most will say "isn't that the weird SM movie with Debby Harry of Blondie?" James Woods stars opposite Deborah Harry as the owner of a Canadian cable TV station, looking for the latest in adult thrills and low-cost programming. Harry is a radio therapist/personality who gets involved with Woods and Videodrome. Given the rise in cable TV and reality programming of 2001, this now 20 year old film is like an eerie glimpse into the seedy side of modern entertainment. Great f/x, fantastic kinky scene where Woods' pierces Harry's ears while they make love.

Summary: I want this DVD!!! But...
Review: I have owed a VHS copy of VIDEODROME for years. It is an extremely creepy, atmospheric movie. James Woods, as always, is amazing. Debbie Harry is actually pretty good, considering this was her first major motion picture. The soundtrack is good too! The reason I won't buy this on DVD is because it would go against everything the movie is about (what is it about?). Just keep in mind that this movie was made during the advent of home video (i.e. VHS & Beta). Fin.

Summary: Cronenberg's masterpiece not given enough justice
Review: This film, like many of Cronenberg's, was way ahead its time. I think the other reviews give it plenty of credit, however I wish to warn any potential buyers that there are more "complete" versions of this film in circulation. Like many of Cronenberg's celluloid, it fell under the knife. This is the re-released "uncut" version, but there is almost 30 minutes of additional footage out there, much of which has been seen on cable TV and foreign bootlegs. There are scenes which take the storyline even farther into madness/TV un-reality, which enhance the perceived confusion immensely. This film really deserves Criterion treatment.
