Summary: Bad, bad, bad
Review: Even Elizabeth Berkley's nudity couldn't save this movie.
It was tasteless and just bad. Period!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: amazing
Review: some people just don't understand the art of the "bad movie". it blows me away that people would even take this movie seriously. this is one of the best worst movies of all time. nonstop funny. all kinds of boobies. the only other movie as good as this is "Hard Ticket to Hawaii"...be sure to look that one up as well....incredible

Summary: Um...
Review: Hey, "viewer from USA", if you burned your DVD after the first 30 minutes, then how exactly did you know about the "demented/crazy rape scene" at the END of the movie? That's weird...

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: painfully bad, even if it's supposedly intentional...
Review: ...aware of the overwhelming critical howls this movie garnered, I decided to rent it of curiousity only after reading a recent review on Salon.com praising this film for becoming a "camp classic" and veiled social commentary.

Well, if you say so. Elizabeth Berkley is the single most god-awful actress I've ever laid eyes upon, a study in constant overacting and limited facial expressions (she has about 3 of them)...she makes Madonna seem like Meryl Streep! Equally appalling is that for someone who's supposed to be playing a stripper/dancer, Berkeley's wide, flopping and prematurely cellulite-ridden backside is almost as ludicrous as her acting ability---almost all of the supporting actresses and random extras are better built...and probably better actresses too. Hell, Flipper the Whale could probably outact Berkley; she's so awful that I could barely restrain myself from throwing things at the TV screen.

Just about every character, every line of dialogue, and every scene in this movie is a cliche that we've seen a million times before in a million different TV movies, soap operas, especially lousy B-movies, and cheesy Hollywood blockbusters.

Maybe Verhoeven/Ezterhas, who brought us the far better "Basic Instinct," really did intend this film to be one big campy joke...regardless of whether one buys into that revisionist viewpoint, this film requires either a strong stomach or copious amounts of alcohol/marijuana/hallucinogenics to get through! Bleh.

Summary: Offensive, Vulgar, Jaded, Wicked, Sinful
Review: This movie is disgusting and degrades women more than playboy, hustler, and porno movies combined.

I burned my DVD, after only watching the first 30 minutes of the movie. This movie was too much for me. I felt very sick and dirty while only watching about 30 minutes of this sleazy movie. There is constant female nudity, sexually frank language, and a demented/crazy rape scene. Fight this filth.

As a movie, this reeeeked! I have never heard more awful and laughable words than what the characters spoke. From what little I saw, I kept thinking to myself, "this movie cannot be serious". but it was, and the naomi character was such foul mouthed tart. That scene where she is in the car and the guy tries to hit on her was hilarious. I thought that was some of the worst acting i've ever seen.

Review: One of the worst films I've ever seen. Five stars.

Summary: Hilarous. A campy farce. If you "Get It" You'll love it.
Review: The thing that so many people seem to miss is that this film is a farce.
Its a giant satire on the American Dream and Las Vegas. If any of you have seen Robocop, one of Paul Verhoeven's earlier films, you may remember the "News Stories" sequences, which were a hilarious incendiary post-modern mockey of the ultra violent technology driven future. Yet Robocop was a studio film that was marketed as an action adventure. Showgirls works the same way. No studio would intentionally fund a big-budget mockery of America and Vegas. You have to read between the lines people...take for example Nomi riding around in her friend's truck eating the hamburger, she takes the wrapper off and flings it off (littering) and laughs like a schoolgirl. Why would a european filmmaker include that minor detail, hmmmm? There's countless examples of Showgirls being able to be read on multiple levels, making it one of the most hilarious and thoroughly enjoyable films I have seen in a long time. Don't take it so seriously and notice the details - you'll be rewarded.

Summary: A Masterpiece. What a Way to Ring in 2004.
Review: I had the great pleasure of seeing this film on January 1, 2004, at our friends' annual New Year's Day party. What a combo to ring in 2004: the Rose Parade followed by Showgirls! From the first few moments, you realize you are in the presence of a "masterpiece of bad," a category saved for the likes of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and a few other classics. From a plot that is a mixture of Lifetime TV, soap opera, 42nd Street and Gypsy, to acting and writing that should drive any lover of film to question his entire belief system, not to mention the meaning of life, this classic misses the mark each and every time. . . thank goodness for that. And, from the DVD extra on the making of this film, you'd think you were watching Ingmar Bergman and his cast discussing Wild Strawberries. I urge you to rent or buy this film today, open a nice bottle of cheap chianti, order a pizza, and spend 2 hours and 11 minutes watching this. You'll realize that only in America could so much money be spent on something this bad without everyone involved being imprisoned or executed at dawn. If that doesn't give us hope for the New Year, what will?

Summary: HORRIBLE MOVIE, But I am BIASED because it is Jessie!
Review: There were two reasons why I was curious to rent this movie several years ago. One was that I was 13 when it came out on video and I remember the controversy of this film when it received an NC-17 rating. The other reason is that I grew up watching every episode of Saved By The Bell, where the star of this film Elizabeth Berkley plays Jessie. However, in this film Berkley sheds her good girl image and takes on Nomi Malone. Nomi is a girl hitchiking to Vegas because she has a dream to dance in the BIG SHOW! She gets her sole briefcase stolen and relies on a kind citizen to let her move in with her. She has her first job at the Cheetah, a sleazy strip club run by the guy who played Sanchez in Licence to Kill(Robert Davi). She soon quits after getting hired at the Stardust. The thing I like about Nomi is that she will hurt or kill anyone to get to the top of the world. And once she gets to the top of the world, she spits in everyone's face, kicks the crap out of them, and throws away everything that she busted her ass to get. So bad it is good!

Summary: A big slice of cheesecake
Review: Elizabeth Berkley stars as a hooker who wants to be a Las Vegas showgirl...only to find out it's not as glamourous as she anticipated. All I can say is, they certainly saved money on the wardrobe....Elizabeth Berkley spends over 50% of the movie naked.
