Summary: Another re-relase. This should have been the one and only.
Review: I think "Army of Darkness" takes the cake for having been re-released on DVD so many times. I believe that this is the 4th edition, and is so far the best. Why they couldn't have released this edition in the first place, I'll never know, but it would have definitely save me some pocket change.The "Boomstick" edition is more or less a compiling of both versions of the film, the US Theatrical Version and the Director's Edition. Here are the differences: Theatrical Version: This is the one I prefer, because it is more of a comedy that a horror movie. It is the version everybody saw first, and it has all the classic moments from the VHS and initial DVD release. Director's Version: This is the same as the "Official Bootleg Cut" that came out last year. It boasts 15 minutes of never-before-seen footage, but it comes at the expence of other scenes that were cut out. Gone are many of the good battle scenes, much of the comedy, different dialogue and music, and a different ending that is lousy. Overall, this version is different, more of a standard horror movie. I always believe there is merit in what the director intended, but this is one of those cases where the alternate version was the better one. The behind-the-scenes featurette presented by Bruce Campbell is excellent, as always. I always love his commentaries and his voice overs, he is always insightful and can always laugh at himself. As good as the extras are, though, it doesn't make the package. If you already own the Theatrical Version and the Director's "Bootleg" Edition, I wouldn't bother with this one. That is unless you have too much money burning a hole in your pocket.

Summary: Splatter/horror/COMEDY
Review: This movie is great in what it tries to be. FUN.
It is the sequel to other movies of the evil dead series. And my favorite between the three....
Basically Bruce Campbell (the main actor) starts the series as a normal good kid/ student. All the way to this movie becoming a super hero, with no fears....
I definetly do recommend this movie but it needs to be seen after watching the other 2 first, otherwise it does not make much sense...
It is a fast pace, action packed, and demential comedy.
I think Bruce Cambell has proved to be able to act, and should be given the opportunity to bigger parts in the movie industry.

Summary: Don't buy this disc. Don't even steal this disc.
Review: Don't get me wrong: Get Army of Darkness even if you have to sell your beloved collection of shrunken heads to buy it. Just don't buy the BOOTLEG EDITION. It's shady marketing. It includes "extra footage" and "the original ending" (I didn't know this was different than the theatrical release's ending.) Anyway, if you remember seeing this at the theater way back when or on TV at some point, you'll be underwhelmed with its lame "director's cut" butchering of the ending as well as its complete lack of good extra features. Apparently bit parts in Ghost World and other films weren't enough to pay the bills, so Bruce Campbell endorsed and contributed to this piece of garbage. I gave mine away to someone who doesn't know the difference.

Summary: Boomstick Great for those building collections
Review: Many things written here were written in previous reviews, but I think it helps to reinforce/legitimize what you are reading. I will assume you have never seen this movie. Here (in Boomstick Bullet form) are what to look for in this film: -First off; This is a great horror/comedy. Bruce Campbell is the next best thing to Jim Carey for outrageous facial expressions.
-If you were expecting another evil dead, forget it. Each film is unique in it's own way.
-If it weren't for some language and one sex scene, I'd say let older pre-teens watch it. More funny than scary.
-The special FX might seam a little "quaint" by todays standards (even by 1958 standards). CG was not a big part of the budget. Still great fun.
-The theatrical release is far superior to the "Directors cut". Sometimes the studios ACTUALLY know better.
-The theatrical release is far superior in DVD quality also. Sound is noticably better.
-Pakaging is disappointing. A non-snapable clam-shell with a carboard sleeve(can you find one not bent at the corners?).
-The little book by Campbell "nut-shelling" the production history is actually entertaining.
-If you own a prior version... ...yea, you got [took]! (great for newer collectors, like me).
-The extras are limited, though the "making of" featurette is quite entertaining.
-The deleted scenes were deleted in good conscience. Again, they made the right choices.
-Remember, if you don't remember the magic words... PUNT!!!

Summary: ARG, another re-release ***BOOMSTICK EDITION***
Review: Anchor Bay is my favorite company that produces DVD's because of their quality and the fact that they release many obscure titles that most companies would pass by. With that said, i'm a little frustrated with so many Re-Releases lately. The BOOMSTICK edition of Army Of Darkness is nice, but the package is a little flimsy. It comes in a cardboard sleeve and the 2 DVD discs are in a foldout case with the booklet stuck in the middle (not attached to the case). You'll need to take care of this one or the cover will surely become worn. It's also not all that easy to slide the cover back on the case that holds the discs. The movie(s) of Army Of Darkness are both previous editions released on seperate DVD editions. First we have the original Theatrical Version with the option of viewing the original ending seperately. The video and sound quality are excellent on this version. The Unrated version on the 2nd DVD contains about 15 minutes of added footage and you can tell the difference easily. The quality of the added scenes is below average. It is grainy and looks like raw footage. It is watchable but it detracts from the overall viewing experience. The audio on the unrated version is only in Dolby 2.0 stereo, where the Rated version on the 1st DVD has Dolby 5.1 surround. If you like the movie, then this is the edition you need. There are some great extra features that any fan will enjoy. It is indeed a great set, aside from the packaging. I just hope they don't re-re-re-re-re-release it next year again!!!

Summary: "It was just pillow talk baby.."
Review: Let's set one thing straight right off the bat, there are quite a few editions of Army of Darkness avaiable on DVD, and in my previous review of the film I stated that the original edition of the film, not the director's cut or bootleg edition, was the one to own. I still stand by that statement, but this new edition (which feels like the umpteenth edition of the film) is the one to own if you don't already have any other edition of the film. You get two discs, one being the original U.S. Theatrical Cut which features all of Ash's great one liners ("good, bad, I'm the one with the gun") and the S-Mart ending. The second disc is the bootleg director's cut with the post apocalyptic alternate ending and the whacky commentary from Bruce Campbell, and Sam and Ivan Raimi. All in all, if you own any other edition of Army of Darkness on DVD, then you might feel a bit cheated if you buy this, but if you don't own any other edition, pick this up; it's a great deal.

Summary: the coolest flick of all-time
Review: Army of Darkness is one of those flicks that MUST be watched on VHS. There is no way a DVD could make it better; it's the best it could be. The coolest thing about it is that originally it wasn't intended to be funny. Bruce Campbell added his comic skills to it and made it among the coolest (not necessarily BEST) movies ever made.

Summary: Army of Darkness-Bootleg Edition
Review: First of all, let me start off by saying this is one of the best B-movies ever put on film. Raimi made a solid movie with a limited budget, forcing him to use cheesy stop-start motion for some of the battle scenes and had to resort to his patented camera tecniques. The story is an original, and Bruce Campbell, no matter what he does in the future (Spiderman 2?) will be forever remembered as Ash, the cocky anti-hero battling for the Book of the Dead.
That being said, lets talk about the DVD. There are way too many versions out there (at least 5 that I know of), which is upsetting for collectors trying to decide on which one to purchase. I chose this one because it contained the director's cut, with over 15 minutes of cut footage and the original ending. Then I watched it and was horrified. Its fairly easy to tell where these cut 15 minutes occur within the film because they still look unfinished. Grainy would hardly describe how poor the picture quality is. Have you ever watched deleted scenes from any DVD and noticed how the film is darker and unrefined? That's what some parts of this DVD resemble. I won't give away the original ending, but I was also dissapointed with it. If you are a fan of this movie, save yourself some money and buy the Broomstick edition, its a much better investment.

Summary: The best B movie of all time.
Review: "Buckle up bonehead, you're going for a ride". And indeed you will with this movie. I'm not going to repeat what has already been said here, but I would like to add something. Even if you already own the threatical version of this flick, it is worth getting for the commentary alone which is almost as funny as the movie--especially Bruce's comment about how the extras walking around in one scene all look like they "have a load" in their pants--and he's right! Although I already have 1 of the 40,000 copies of the Limited Edition, I'm still thinking of getting this one for a "back up".
