Summary: the gem no one's seen
Review: I was quite skeptical about seeing this movie...but it is literally the best animated movie I have ever seen. I loved the Disney movies, but this one beats them all. No sensationalized romance involving a male and female of "ideal" physical attraction, and a message that tells kids that when you take the time to care and sacrifice for people, the blessings come back to you tenfold.

Summary: MOVIE WUTH A MESSAGE.
Review: I am so glad that my five year old son loves this movie! I can watch it with him over and over agian and NOT get bored with it myself.

Whne my son was born, I vowed I would never buy him a toy gun. With all the violence and gun problems in the world, I thought it would be wise not to even get started- but before long I relented and he HAD a whole box full of toy guns. I loved this movie's very strong anti-gun, anti-violence message. The movie accomplished what I could not- it turned my son off to any type of toy weapons.

At the same, the movie is entertaining, funny, well-scripted, and never "Barney"-like- the movie has a strong message without sugar coating or talking down to kids.

This movie is a flat out winner. I'm kind of glad it wan't a blockbuster as a massive marketing campaign might've dilluted it's power.(i.e. making the Iron Giant into a luvable plush toy, orworse an album entitled -"THE IRON GIANT SINGS!")

You can't do any better than "The Iron Giant". It's the best.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I am greatly disappointed that such a good film would promote or allow poor language (i.e. swearing). It doesn't make sense, since we don't allow children to speak this way in our schools and most parents do not allow it at home; why would it be acceptable in a children's movie?

Summary: Golden Reel Award: Best Sound Editing
Review: Iron Giant won the Golden Reel Award for the Best Sound Editing. The sound on this film is incredible! Watch it with full-surround and the volume cranked!

Summary: The Iron Giant has Landed
Review: Vin Diesel and Jennifer Aniston lend their voices in the remarkable animated adventure "The Iron Giant". In the dawn of the Cold War, a curious New England boy discovers a gigantic metal-eating robot (voiced by Diesel) from another world. Their special freindship is put to the test when the boy must protect his new pal from an ambitious government agent and the US military. "The Iron Giant" is a stunning animated wonder that rivals Disney's best. Director Brad Bird ("The Simpsons") combines a well-written story and some memmorable characters for an enjoyable and uplifting animated film. The talented voice cast also includes Eli Marenthal, Christopher McDonald, John Mahoney and Harry Connick Jr. as artistic scrap yard owner Dean McCoppin. The animation is colorful and quite impressive.

"The Iron Giant" is certainly a highly recommended addition to any DVD collection. The film is presented in both 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen formats. The DVD contains a colorful video transfer with pleasing sharpness, and a clear and well-balanced 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Its supplemental extras feature an enjoyable "Making of The Iron Giant" featurette and a music video. Despite a lack of supplemental extras, "The Iron Giant" is a great animated feature and earns a pleasing "B+".

Summary: Wow, Warner Brothers made a great one.
Review: I had great reservations about seeing The Iron Giant considering the very poor job Warner Brothers has done on other feature length animated movies. But this is the best animated movie I have ever seen. Hogarth is such an amazing and endearing boy. A great example to my sons. He has humor, charm, daring and a big heart. Watch out Disney.

Summary: Simply put - A MUST own film
Review: This is one of the most underrated, well acted movies of last year, and one of the top animated films of all time. Kudos to Brad Bird for making a film I watch over and over, and doesn't follow the sappy recycled musical structure of modern Disney films. Funny, warm and VERY family friendly, this belongs in every video collection. Shame on Warner Brothers for not doing more to promote it.

Summary: Best Film of 1999
Review: This is without a doubt the best film of the year, one that puts to shame the sappy, corporate paplum of Disney animation. My 2-year-old son cries every time it's over and begs me to rewind it and play it again. Because the film has a layered, universal, almost mythic message, I can enjoy it as much as he does, no matter how many times we watch it. That's the true test of a great film, and The Iron Giant meets that test. It's so refreshing to see an animated film that has meaning and magic, rather than the Disney-style focus group blandness. By the way, the film is extremely funny, as well as being emotionally satisfying, a rare combination.

Summary: One of the biggest surprise films of 1999
Review: When I first saw the trailer for this film, I was skeptical. Historically, non-Disney animated features have been a disappointment. I'm not just talking about box office grosses; the films tend not to be all that good. But the trailer for this film gave me a hint that something was different. Parts of that trailer had me laughing out loud. And the rest of it kept my interest. By the end of the trailer, I wondered if this film would be that good. Then "The Iron Giant" received one great critical review after another, which made up my mind to see this movie.

I watched this film in the theater and I was truly astonished. The animation in every scene was done by very talented artists. And some of the scenes (such as the opening outer space sequence that follows the giant's entry into the earth's atmosphere) were wonderous to behold. That opening scene alone was enough to make me perk up and pay close attention. Another thing that caught my attention was how much I cared about the characters (a big factor in determining what a good movie is, animated or not.) I can't explain how it was accomplished, but "The Iron Giant" actually convinced me that every character lived a life that extended beyond the screen. And those lives would be interesting to follow.

Just when I thought this film couldn't possibly surprise me any more, another thing happens. It actually has an important message to say. I won't spoil it by revealing it here. (The trailer surprisingly didn't.) But in the wake of the horrible news stories that occurred in 1999, it's a good one to learn. And the film doesn't make the mistake of delivering the message by shoving it down the audience's throat.

Many films come along that entertain us, animated or not. Others give us characters that make us care. And still other films have something important to say. It is a real treat when a film comes along that does all of these things--especially if that film is a full length animated film.

That is why "The Iron Giant" was one of the biggest surprise films of 1999. If "Toy Story 2" had not been done into a theatrically released film, "The Iron Giant" would have been my pick for the animated film of the year.

Summary: Ageless themes, beautiful animation.
Review: I saw this movie with a friend of mine on a boring monday at the local dollar theater. I had heard it was good, but I put off until we saw it by chance. The animation is beautiful, the themes are universal, and best of all, not one song. A lot of people give movies on amzon 5 stars, but believe me, this is worth it.
