Summary: Quality Ratings (Sound / Video)
Review: Such a disappointment. I have both the VHS and DVD versions of this film and I am saddened about the quality.

The picture quality (just as WideScreen Review rated it) is poor. Not to make excuses but it may have something to do with Brandon Lee being grafted into the movie after his death.

The movie is (IMHO) supposed to be dark and murky, however, on the DVD, blacks are grey and murky is smokey. Faces are definately not crisp as one would expect by paying about $20.00.

Sound is a little better, as good as it can get with little need for 5.1 speakers. As most of the film is dialog, there is hardly a need to even turn on your subwoofer.

Summary: The Crow - Brandon Lee
Review: The Crow is most likely the best film that was ever made and will be the best for many years to come. It tells the story of Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his girlfriend Shelly Webster, who are murdered by a gang on Devils Night. A year later he comes back to take his revenge on them, and is helped by a girl named Sarah. This was Brandon Lee's last film as he was accidently shot during filming and will be sadly missed.

Summary: The Greatest Comic Book Film Ever Made
Review: The Crow along with the first Superman movie are case studies in how to adapt a comic book story to the screen.

This is a very faithful adaptation to the James O'Barr comic book that even includes sequences directly from the comic book (eg. the scene in the pawnshop). Visually, Alex Proyas tells the story very quickly. I know a lot of filmmakers hate rapid cuts, but in a comic book adaptation, it fits stylistically. Comics are read with that type of pace...going quickly from panel to panel.

It's too bad Brandon couldn't be around to enjoy the success of this film and the launching pad it would have been for his career.

Summary: A better title for this flick: The Turkey
Review: I had high hopes when I got this DVD. It had pretty good reviews and was shrouded in intrigue due to the unfortunate demise of the lead actor during its filming. But after watching The Crow, I'm convinced that Brandon Lee died from the sheer embarrassment of being associated with this melodramatic flapdoodle.

First, the concept is thin but workable: a fatally wronged man returns from the dead to wreak vengance on his killers. Clint Eastwood did this well in "High Plains Drifter." But that movie had mystery, conflict and examination of the souls of both the living and the dead. It probed.

Not so this film. Lee simply goes about killing miscreants in artful and condign ways until they're all dead. Sort of a "Halloween" from the persepctive of Jason. All of Lee's cardboard cut-out victims are too strung and atavistic to even believe they have human souls, much less ones worth examining before they are dispatched to Hell. Even the ringleader has as his crowning intellectual achievment the creation of a night devoted to arson. When that becomes passe', he reaches for new heights of criminality. His decision? A REALLY BIG fire. Man, why didn't I think of that? Pass me the bong...

Finally, not to speak ill of the dead, but Brandon Lee couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Half the time I thought I was watching the Joker from Batman menace drifters, though Jack Nicholson can menace pretty convincingly. Not Lee. If he hadn't been immortal/dead, he would have been slapped down by the first cranked-up junkie he rolled.

Skip this one, folks. Go buy/rent High Plains Drifter and watch a good revenge flick.

Summary: Truly original and Truly Epic a masterpeice.
Review: This is it the film the Brandon Lee died for in filming it.A true cinimatic masterpeice into the depths of hell and beyond. The Crow stood to visualize everything the 90's was about, the smell the taste of a new movie for generation x.And it is this movie that stood alone an accomplished that.Brandon Lee is downright incredible in this film and if you have DVD you will find that this movie had no stunt doubles for Brandon Lee not one.His ablilty to pysically push himself to the edge in this movie is amazing to see.

The story begins with a city burning we see a lone cop played by (Ernie Hudson)trying to get information in an apartment for the murder of Eric Draven played by (Brandon Lee). And Eric's Wife Shelly in so much pain that she wouldn't make it ,we also see a young teenage girl who through all the darkness emerges as a passage for the film. When we follow lone crow to a grave site it is Eric's when the crow touches the grave site we see that something happens. It just so happens Eric Start's to brake free from the grave cold scared and in shock Eric goes back to his apartment.

While Eric finds Sanctuary in his Apartment he begins to recall his murder and the hoodlums who killed him and his beloved wife.Confused and betrayed we finally understand why Eric arose to his grave , he starts to give himself his alter ego and he looks as black as death itself his outfit searing the word revenge all over it.

With the crow Eric has powers that would even make superman stand still in amazement he's able to regenerate at will , run buildings as if it were nomal ground and he cannot die.Brandon Lee pysical abilitys bring out the best in the crow as his acting is just as eaqul.

The Crow's dark devilsh look helps it to be an diffrent movie in it's own right even when BATMAN has the same look.Digital effect's make it possible for brandon to finish the crow.

It's truly epic and a wild ride into the depth of darkness and tell's us when you have love your soul truly lives on forever.Oustanding visual effects and incredible sets. This movie is a classic and should be a masterpeice. One of the best films of the decade.

Summary: Beauty of the Beast
Review: This film is based on the classic graphic novel by James O'Barr. In short, for those of you who have not seen this film, it is one of the greatest ever made, certainly the finest of its kind.

It is a tale of man's two most powerful and ultimately destructive elements, the capacity for love and the need for revenge. The film is brilliant in its gothic, edgy portrait of a man searching for closure, yet striving to retain his humanity. Ultimately, the timeless conflict between the mind and the flesh.

It was directed by Alex Proyas, who is a relatively new director, yet the most promising in years. His eye for detail is complemented by his ability to meld grungy visuals with blistering action, and somehow create a curious beauty which shows in all of his pictures.

As a final note, the remarkable actor Brandon Lee, son of Bruce, died while finishing this film. Having lost a friend and companion, Proyas did not want to finish the movie. He did so only at the urging of Lee's family, and dedicated it to him.

I am not overstating this movie's sheer brilliance and quality when I tell you that it single-handedly convinced me that a film could be a work of art. With all the hype and no substance coming out of Hollywood, these films are rare and truly gold mines.

Summary: One of the Best movies of all time.
Review: The Crow is a action-packed, yet poignant tale of Eric Draven, who comes back from the grave to avenge the deaths of himself and his girlfriend. THe movie achieves a perfect balance of romance, action and dark imagery, only highlighted by the untimely death of the star, Brandon Lee. This definitely would have been a breakthrough movie for his career. Unfortunately, Hollywood is left with a void of young action stars.

Summary: Fabulous
Review: The Crow is incredible. This is a movie you do not want to miss.

First of all, the visuals are great. The director, Alex Proyas, really knows what he's doing. The angles he films things it at are really cool. The dark atmosphere is captured unbelievably well. If you thought Batman (1989) did the dark look well, wait until you see this.

Speaking of visuals, you get some pretty rockin' action, too. Really well done. My favorite: the knife throwing scene.

Brandon Lee as the main character is very cool. He has some great lines. He performs the role with style. Basically, he just rocks.

So there you have it. This movie is highly recommended. And if you've already seen it, try Dark City (1998), also directed by Alex Proyas. It's not action-packed, but it has a similar feel and it's an awesome movie.

Summary: Brandon Lee's Last and Greatest Film
Review: This was my favorite movie when I was 16 years old. I love the story, the characters, the cast. The film is very dark, literally and figuratively. Still though, in the midst of that darkness is the love story of Eric and Shelly. Their murders spawn one of the most twisted and bittersweet revenge-from-the-grave stories I have ever seen. The love story is a central figure to Eric's return, but it doesn't weigh down the movie by going into the sappiness territory. You really feel for Brandon Lee's character, and you can't help but cheer him on as he wastes those punk losers who murdered him. Michael Wincott (playing yet ANOTHER villain, what's with that?) is perfect as the sadistic Top Dollar, and I love the little girl on the skateboard. The soundtrack is great too--a combination of industrial, alternative, and a very haunting score. The ending of the movie always makes me cry. I won't give it away, but it does give you a sense of hope in this dark and cynical world. I love this movie and would recommend it as much for the drama as for the action sequences, which are good too. A beautiful tribute to Brandon Lee's memory.

Summary: THE ABSOLUTE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE
Review: I must be a strange one to be this adiment about a movie, but I cannot stress enough about the beautiful irony that this movie provides in directly mirroring the star actor, Brandon Lee to his own personal fate. It makes me fall so deeply involved in the emotion and heartache felt by this human, and the sorrow of the way he had to die in the prime of his career. Had he still been with us, the second Crow movie would have been worth watching. He is and will be the only crow on the big screen. He left behind his own bride- to-be in real life, Eliza Hutton, and his own following of cult mourners, enthusiests, and fanatics. Brandon will be my first son's name...Brandee if a girl. Yep, I am of the occult! You will live on in our hearts forever, Brandon!
