Summary: Quoth the raven, nevermore!
Review: When Alex Proyas released "The Crow", he picked his time well. The film was a modern Gothic style-fest, at the height of the Gothic movement. But it has so much more than style that it has captured a strong following, loyal despite the years. This is, in no small part, due to the presence of Brandon Lee and of course his controversial death during filming.

Most people are aware that "The Crow" started out as a Top Dollar comic, penned by James O'Barr. The brooding tale of a murdered man, returned from the dead to right wrongs, was very popular. The comic and the film spoke to a youthful generation, frustrated by a culture which was ruled by apathetic adults seemingly blind to the unstoppable decline of the world. How right it would feel to have the power and the motivation to do something positive for the world. And if a few bad guys get crushed beneath your boots in the process... so much the better.

The comic was always depicted from a very personal angle. Eric Draven's brutal quest, his torment and his compassion were always the driving force behind the tale. Choosing Brandon Lee to play this part was a stroke of brilliance. He certainly had the look and the moves to carry it off. But more importantly he had a screen presence that was almost magical. His father had the same sort of charisma and if anything, Brandon actually exuded more style. It would have been interesting to see what else he could have done had he not been shot during filming.

Although some of the "Bad Guys" were a little over the top, the main protagonist, interestingly named Top Dollar and played by Michael Wincott, was very convincing. He and his half sister made a strangely relaxed but menacing duo against which Eric Draven sets himself all unknowing. You see, when he first returned from the grave, literally, his only thoughts were for revenge against the men who had raped and murdered his betrothed. It is only when his mission is nearly complete that he learns their violent acts have in fact been orchestrated by higher powers.

On the sideline we have two other characters. The detective, now sergeant Albrecht, that investigated the initial murders has never quite let go of the case. This is partly because he has to look out for a semi-orphaned girl called Sarah, (Rachael Davis), who was previously cared for by Eric and his love. The cop and the street urchin provide witnesses tot he events and in the end get drawn directly into the conflict. In fact, Sarah is the only thing that holds Eric back from resting in peace.

Just when things seemed to be over, the evil siblings make a bid for Eric's power as personified by a crow which haunts his every move. They want the same invulnerability that Eric has but even more Top Dollar want his own revenge on Eric for spoiling his plans for devil's night mayhem. In the end, with his supernatural protection stripped, it is just passion against passion. May the strongest heart win.

Summary: Comic fantsy at it's finist
Review: The tragic story of shelly Webster and Eric Draven is butifly portrayed in this excalent gothic movie. The script has a few veriations on the original comic strip by J O'BARR but still has the same impact as the dark comic. This film will leave you stuned and amazed. Brandon Lee (1965 - 1993) gives an amasing preformance as the torcherd soul of Eric in the best preformance of his sadly short carier. The fact that the son of the martial arts superstar Bruce Lee died while making this film dose put a few people off watching it but he insisted that it was relised as he awated the abaliance muinets before he died. The bad guy's in this film a wonderfully evil, they are made up off all the things that a bad guy should and more. I personly love this film and have become a devoted fan after seing it and I have no doubt that you will to.

Summary: "Quite a Bit Of Fun!"
Review: No point in comparing Brandon to Bruce here - an interesting storyline in and of itself, a gratifying feeling as good triumphs over evil, pretty good effects.

Brandon may be gone, but he could be proud of this work (and probably is).

Summary: The Crow
Review: Many people say the Crow is a film where style pushes out the substance and I suppose I can see how they would think that. But I have to disagree. Yes the Crow is a very visual film but once you get past that you find a lot more than you first thought. Alex Proyas, a fairly unknown director at this point, has done an amazing job of transfering James O'barrs comic creation from page to screen. He has created a comic book world that is full of beautiful and disturbing imagery. The film is practically black and white so when a colour does break through it makes a big impact. He directs the action and the romance with equal precision. He knows how much of each to give you and when to give you it. HE does an excellent with his actors. He gives them quite a lot of space to work in but doesn't let them drift too far into caricatures. Which brings us onto the performances. This was to be Brandon Lees big break.Unfortunately it was not to be but his performance as the tragically undead Eric leaves us in no doubt that he would have been a welcome asset to the ranks of Hollywood stardom. His is a part that could have been done very badly but Lee shows just the right amount of sadness and vulnerability to go with the rage and hatred his character is suffering. It is a surprisingly powerful performance for someone who spent most of his previous films beating people up and giving a clever line afterwards. Thats not to say there isn't plenty of action in the Crow. Action is plentiful and expertly executed by Lee but Proyas doesn'tlet it draw away from the storyline. The supporting cast all give memorable performances, especially Micheal Wincott as the head bad guy and Rochelle Davis as Eric young friend. They all help add to the overall feeling of the film. What is a very important aspect of this film is the music. The score and the soundtrack are both perfect and set the mood and atmosphere brilliantly. The music is just as important as anything else in the film. The standout tracks being The Cure's 'Burn' and The Nine inch Nails 'Dead souls'. There is no getting away from the fact that this is an action film but it is an action film with a soul. The Crow has a lot more feeling and passion than most of the so-called romantic films we get these days. You feel the tragedy of the situation. Love and hate play just as big a part as the violence. In fact without one of these factors the film would not work. The Crow is a fantastic film and a fitting tribute to Brandon Lee's talents.

Summary: ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME MOVIES OF ALL TIME!
Review: THIS MOVIE IS TOTALLY AWESOME. I SAW IT WHEN IT WAS RELEASED IN THEATRES IN 1994 AND IT WAS THE COOLEST THING I HAD EVER SEEN ON THE BIG SCREEN. "THE CROW" IS BRANDON LEE'S FINAL FILM AND STILL THE ONLY BRANDON LEE FILM I HAVE SEEN TO THIS DAY. I HAVE OWNED "THE CROW" SINCE THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED ON TAPE. I HAVE WATCHED IT A NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF TIMES. THE VISUAL EFFECTS ARE GOOD, AS WELL AS THE STORYLINE. IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVE NOT SEEN "THE CROW", PLEASE CHECK THIS EXCELLENT MOVIE OUT. AT THE END OF THE TAPE, A NEVER BEFORE SEEN INTERVIEW IS SHOWN. THE INTERVIEW WAS FILMED MINUTES BEFORE LEE WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED BY A GUNSHOT WHILE FILMING. GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL BRANDON LEE! YOU WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS THE STAR OF ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME!

Summary: spooky but still very good
Review: This film is the earliest that was released . Its tale of life lost and redeemed is perhaps the very simplest as far as movies go. The tale of someone coming back from the dead, and avenging the lives lost wasnt as so skillfully touched as it is here. If you want to see a good film skillfully done, see this one,it is very worth your time. All in all a very good film.

Summary: Awesome movie
Review: Don't listen to anyone who tells you that this movie is bad. It is one of the greatest movies ever made and should receive it's due credit. Don't mind it when people complain about the sound is bad or the picture quality isn't great. This movie contributes so much to the category of Horror/Drama/Comedy. I say comedy, because in parts you can't help but laugh; if you have a dark sense of humor that is. I recommend this to any movie goer out there.

Summary: Greatest Movie of All Time
Review: The Crow is the greatest movie of all time. It is so tragic that Brandon Lee had to die in the movie. He would have been a great person to meet and he would definitely of had a long movie career like his father. This movie should be at the number one spot in the movie category for all time. Brandon Lee forever.

Summary: Outstanding, brilliant.
Review: Superb. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest movies ever made on so many levels -- story, casting, directing, editing, to name just a few -- that it will be a long time before anything comes close to accomplishing what this movie did. From the opening sequence, to the narritive hook, to Draven leaving his calling card (the silhouette of the Crow in one form or another), and to the climactic finale, every second of this movie is to be relished and enjoyed to the fullest. Too bad the rating system only goes to five stars. I'd give it ten stars if it were possible. Buy it now. You will not regret it.
