Rating: Summary: Excellent Vampire film, one of the best!. Review:
Count Yorga, Vampire. If the title sounds kind of bland or just not as glamourous or intriging as others;'rest assured' this is an excellent movie!!,one of the best of it's genre. This is definately not some thrown together production, the cast were all good, the sets were not the cheap low budget types you normally see in horror films from the 60's 70's And the script was pretty decent too! all in all worth purchasing for a cold winters night when you want to watch a horror film with "class". It didn't hurt at all either that the lead actor is handsome...or maybe the fact that he bears a striking resemblance to my husband has left me somewhat biased...oh well, great movie!!!. You'll see. :-)
Rating: Summary: COUNT YORGA VAMPIRE Review: A somewhat admirable but sadly disappointing attempt to bring gothic vampirism into the 70s, Count Yorga Vampire lacks the suspense, action, and plot necessary to make the endeavor work. Robert Quarry stars as the title character, a Bulgarian bloodsucker who poses as a medium to ensnare new victims. Quarry's performance is one of the film's strong points, alluring yet undeniably monstrous. Some effort is taken to make the victims into more than statistics; the movie looks at their lives and interraction in surprising detail for this sort of movie. Unfortunately this actually works against the film, as the protagonists are actually a rather boring, infantile set of 70s dullards who fail to inspire much compassion in the viewer. As a result, the shock ending, which should leave the viewer with a last electric jolt of fear, is more of a period than an exclamation point and doesn't really carry much impact. In fairness, the lack of quality performances is due more to mediocre characterization and dialogue in the script than due to any fault on the part of the actors, who seem to give their roles an honest effort. Finally, the special effects are weak and as is typical of many vampire flicks, the vampires seem to just miraculously impale themselves on every wooden point in sight. This isn't the worst vampire movie out there, but I can't recommend anyone buying it. Aside from Quarry's magnificent performance, Count Yorga Vampire is a rather slow, emotionless bag of missed opportunities.

Rating: Summary: Cat Lovers Beware! Review: COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE is a fairly run-of-the-mill offering from AIP. Still, there's something about the title character that elevates CYV above most trashy vampire epics. Robert Quarry (Count Yorga Returns, Dr. Phibes Rises Again) is the toothy, dashing count. He performs a seance, where he hipnotizes a woman named Donna, who wants to hear from her dead mother. Unknown to her, Yorga was the one who killed mum and added her to his growing harem of undead babes! After the seance, Donna's friend Erica and her husband Paul (Michael Murphy) give Yorga a ride home in their hippy-van, complete with ultra-groovy curtains! Well, they get stuck in the mud outside Yora's mansion, and like anyone else, they decide to get nekkid and do the love thing. The count shows up and invades their privacy, tossing Paul like a piece of paper and giving Erica something to remember him by! Yep, she gets the hellacious hicky of death! Later, Paul and a friend find Erica feasting on a kitten! This infamous scene is the only real icky one in the whole movie. Paul has Erica see his buddy, Dr. Hayes (Roger Perry) who happens to be a blood specialist. Now, wouldn't you take her to a psychiatrist?? Or just strap a straight-jacket on her yourself and drive her to the ha-ha-ranch?? Anyway, Dr. Hayes gives Erica a transfusion which has no real effect. Yorga comes to her at night to finish the dirty deed. Now a full-fledged vampire chick, Erica takes her place in Yorga's secret dungeon. Paul attempts a rescue, only to be squished by the count's incredibly strong servant, Bruda (who looks a lot like one of the sinister hillbillies in "Deliverence"). Meanwhile, convinced of Count Yorga's vampirism, Dr. Hayes and company go to his home for the final encounter. I liked Yorga and his evil brides too. The Dr. Hayes character isn't bad either. Ignore the 70s hairstyles / fashions and just enjoy the show! If you like modern / urban vampires, check out The "Night Stalker" or "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula (aka: Count Dracula's Vampire Brides)" as well...
Rating: Summary: 70's Vampire Cult Classic Review: Count Yorga, Vampire is an excellent example of the lower budget 70's Horror/Vampire flicks. This film is full of scantily clad beautiful people being stalked by a seventies era Bulgarian vampire aptly named Count Iorga(Yorga). The film has numerous eerie and heart racing moments as well as a couple of sensuous sex scenes. The scene with Erica and Yorga in her bedroom is one of the best PG rated Vampire/Victim erotic attack scenes I have seen. Overall, the producing/directing/acting are good, given the budget. I enjoyed this film and would highly recommend adding this one to any good collection of HORROR/VAMPIRE videos.
Rating: Summary: ROBERT QUARRY IS AWESOME!!! Review: Having picked up this movie and its sequel cheaply, I decided that I would treat myself them on a Halloween. What I found was a standard early 1970s horror movie that had its good points but overall was not spectacular.Essentially, this is a retelling of the Dracula story. Count Yorga has come from Bulgaria to Los Angeles, where he starts seducing and vampirizing women. He has a Renfield-like sidekick and is opposed by a Van Helsing-like doctor. Yorga is a super-suave vampire, acting the part of the nobleman to gain access to his victims and intelligent enough to toy with his hunters. This movie has a definite '70s look to it. Beyond the fashions and decor, the directing itself has a '70s feel to it. In particular, the scenes showing two men walking through the city in conversation, showing them only at a distance, seems very reminiscent of the time period. This winds up being a relatively routine horror movie, with only a couple minor twists to set it apart. If you are roped into watching this, it won't be an awful waste of time, but if you never see it, your life will not be the poorer for it. This is basically a movie for vampire movie fans who aim towards completism.

Rating: Summary: Another Killer Vampire Movie ;-) Review: I collect vampire movies. I purchased this one, and watched it and it wasn't too bad. It had a good feel of the 70s in it. The people at the film studio had to have made money on this one. The opening shot at the dock used the same footage that was used in Blackula. I didn't expect it to be an Academy award winner, and I was not too disappointed.
Rating: Summary: ROBERT QUARRY IS AWESOME!!! Review: I love watching Robert Quarry act, especially his two Count Yorga movies. He's great as he matches wits with his foes.Roger Perry who's another actor I like, plays Dr.Hayes,a blood specialist. The doc is called in by friends when one is missing and another has bite marks on her neck. The doc and friends try to get anwsers from the Count and he's too cool,as he brushes each question off.On the other hand, when he gets mad,his face turns white and he charges people. The Counts mansion is very gothic and you could get lost in it.No happy ending here. This is scary stuff.
Rating: Summary: This film is lacking Review: I purchased this based on the good review from Leonard Maltin (when will I learn?) and the same from others on this page. Although this film certainly has good moments, that is all they are... moments, and brief at that. As is common with many horror films, the opening is interesting and draws you in, creating expectations of possibilities within the viewer. I'm sad to say that in what follows, these expectations are never realized, only coming close in two very short scenes and in the conclusion of the film. But, 20 minutes of interesting scenes do not save this film. I should have (perhaps) prefaced this review by saying I am fan and aficionado of horror films, and in particular, those with Vampire themes. This is worth a look, if for no other reason than to satisfy one's curiosity, but the plain truth is, unless you have money to burn, this film is not worth the purchase price -- unless you need it to complete a collection of films of this genre. Slow, with some interesting scenes. Had potential, but fell short of the mark. One and a half stars.
