Rating: Summary: THE BEST MERMAID MOVIE EVER! Review: One of the first mermaid movies I ever saw was Splash, no other movie compairs to it. If you like mermaids than this is a must!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Tom Hanks Movie! Review: Splash is a funny movie that is really cute and charming and it is Rated PG, not Rated R as another reviewer stated! Also it was one of Tom Hanks first big hit movies and back then he was more known for his sitcom Bosom Buddies. Splash was directed by Ron Howard who was unknown as a director but famous for playing Opie on The Andy Griffith Show and Richie on Happy Days and has proven to be a wonderful director with numerous hit movies to his credit! Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah were wonderful in this movie as well as John Candy and Eugene Levy who both worked together in SCTV and being a fan of SCTV I really liked their work in this movie. To this day Splash still remains as my favorite Tom Hanks movie of all time and I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Great Flick - has anyone heard of a "director's cut" version Review: Splash is a hilarious romantic comedy. I've heard of the availabilty of a director's cut version with scenes that were deleted from the theater version. Has anyone else seen this version?
Rating: Summary: Splash is a sexy, comical, romance. Review: Splash is a movie must for anyone who enjoys a great love story. It is about two creatures from two completely different worlds that fall hopelessly in love with each other, and will do anything for their true love. All of the actors portray their characters beautifully, which make the story more believable and heart-warming then ever, while it comes alive in your living room.
Rating: Summary: Splash is a beautiful, romantic comedy. Review: Splash is a wonderful, romantic comedy about a man and a mermaid who fall in love for each other. This is one of Tom Hanks' earliest hits that made him a star. His co-star, Darryl Hannah, who plays Madison the mermaid, has never really had a hot film career away from this movie, sadly enough. The late John Candy and Eugene Levy provide some of the film's hilarious comedy as well. This film was directed by Ron Howard. A movie about a mermaid has to be good, and Splash does this so well. Tips off to the crew of this movie who made it so real. The underwater sequences are well done as well as Daryl Hannah herself as the mermaid. She is utterly believable as a mermaid! She is just so sexy in the rubber mermaid tail suit. She swims in it so well. This movie really brought a fairy tale type story to life. A must see for everyone. This film was followed by "Splash, Too", a Disney TV movie sequel in 1988 starring Todd Waring and Amy Yasbeck in the Hanks/Hannah roles. Unfortunately, this sequel is not on home video.
Rating: Summary: Pleasant and Sweet Review: Splash starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah is a funny comedy movie about a guy and a mermaid and it is a pleasant and sweet movie and very entertaining! Recommended!
Rating: Summary: Subliminal Emotions Go A Long Way Review: Splash, a very pleasant fairy-tale for grown-ups that have a natural propensity for childish love-dreams, besides showing the abstract beauty of idealistic and subliminal romantic love, also hints at some of its socially-incurred expenses and other co-lateral damages as well.Splash also subtly implies that once the emotional fancy and first-hour fantasies have evaporated, sweeping love-feelings are either fuelled-exacerbated and/or destroyed-eroded by the adversity-enemity of local by-standers, i.e. more than often by some of society's most vocal so-called villains (I'd Like to Live, Under the Sea, In an Octopus's Garden...) Anyway, true to form and self-consistent to the finish line, the end of Splash shows the once somehow reticent Allen Bauer (skillfully played by Tom Hanks) totally vamped and suckered into the world of beautiful and loving Mermaid, raptured away from both common sense and fellow-citizens (into a world of sham and dreams) as they "splash" their heads off, in a quite pleasant and happy romantic ending, which was indeed the only possible consistent one for that beautiful fairy-tale for grown-ups. Emotional escapology presented in a rather fine package. Quite watchable. More seriously, one remembers that the release of Splash introduced for the first time a very human and mellow Tom Hanks, just like the projection of Wall Street was instrumental in establishing a ruthless Michael Douglas. I guess both movies played a bit the same mediatic role in the personal careers of these two high-ranked actors. As far as Daryl Hannah is concerned, she may have felt a bit more in her element during the making of Splash than during that of Wall Street...
Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME!!!!! Review: SPLASH- from 1984- directed superbly by Ron Howard is absolutely the best movie of all time. It offers one of the best love stories ever brought to the screen. The performances were top notch by Daryl Hannah, Tom Hanks and John Candy. This film makes you wonder what it would be like to be in love with a fish. It plays at times like a comedy, and at other times like a fairy tale. I have always had a curiosity about mermaids and I see them as mystical beautiful creatures. Daryl Hannah was absolutely beautiful in this 1984 film which jump-started her career. It was the first movie released by Touchstone Films- a subsidairy of Disney. I am a collector of this film and it's related memorabilia. It is the best film of 1984 and the best film of all time. I will always have a special place in my heart for this movie!!!! If you haven't seen it- I recommend that you do!! It will forever live in your mind once you do!! We need more movies like this today because we seldom see them anymore. This movie is truly a masterpiece from beginning to end and is my all-time favorite movie!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD extras Review: The DVD extras really make this 20th anniversary re-release worth owning. This movie has been run repeatedly (in edited form) on television, so there probably aren't that many people who haven't had a chance to see this delightful fantasy. The "making-of" video and the commentary track give a fascinating glimpse into the way that Hollywood works. Why did Disney wind up making this film? How did Tom Hanks get the lead? How did they choose Darryl Hannah? Who was the film's "real" star? How did they pull off the underwater shots? What was the lobster that Madison ate in the restaurant? If you have a soft spot for this film, it's a joy to watch and a real treat to get to know better.
