Summary: 2 times a charm
Review: After my first viewing of Broadway Danny Rose, I was extremely dissapointed. I just didn't "get" it. I did not think it was about anything, and that it contained none of the humor, wit, and philosophical musings about life that Woody had so perfectly achieved before and since (see Annie Hall or Hannah and Her Sisters). I couldn't have been more wrong. I decided to watch the film again, to determine exactly what about it that so many people loved so much . I was truly mystified. But during that second viewing, I really began to soak in the message about the lovable "loser" Woody plays, not to mention the fact that I couldn't stop laughing! How could I have missed this stuff before? This is Woody at his most subtle best, in a masterpiece comparable and perhaps even surpassing Manhattan (another one that took me a few times to appreciate). Bottom line: if you are looking for pure slapstick, watch Bananas or Sleeper. If you are looking for a deep, thought-provoking drama, watch Crimes and Misdeameanors. But if you are looking for a subtle charmer that deals with the little problems of life in an original, compelling way, watch Broadway Danny Rose (and Manhattan).

Summary: Woody Lite
Review: Broadway Danny Rose feels like a love letter from Woody to all the guys who never made it to the heights that he has achieved. He succeeds in making us root for the little guy. It's like Rocky for the Vaudeville set. I call it a "minor" classic because unlike some of Woody's other later films, this one does not seek to ask or answer any of life's great quandaries. It's just seeks to entertain and may be his most light harted fare since Play it again, Sam (Alice was pretty lightweight too, but not one of my favorites). So if you're looking for a movie that'll just make you laugh, this one is highly recommended. If however you're looking for a Woody Allen movie with more substance, Crimes and Misdemeanors or Husbands and Wives might be more your speed. And for Woody at his absolute best, try Manhattan or Hannah and her Sisters, both are 5 star movies.

From his clothes to his gestures to his phraseology, Woody characterizes the part to a T, without ever becoming far-fetched. Mia as the delightful ditz is hilariously grating and the rest of the cast reminds me of 1/2 of my neighbors in Brooklyn. There are classic scenes in here that still come across as original almost 20 years later. Maybe New York hasn't changed as much as I thought?

Summary: You will love this schnook
Review: I agree with all the other reviewers that this is one of Woody's best laughers. There is nothing deep about this movie, but the characters and lines are something I have peppered my woeful life with since viewing this movie in 1984. Basically, Danny Rose gets into all this trouble and to quote him," I haven't done anything." This is true. The phrase that I live by is that "no good deed goes unpunished." All Danny is trying to do is hit a little success with Lou Canova, his washed-up singer. He promotes Lou at the expense of his other "acts" including PeeWee (the son he never had} and the lady that plays the glasses. Danny dispenses sanguine advice especially to his balloon folders as he advises them to "start with the giraffe and then build to the elephant." He makes the acquaintance of Lou's girlfriend, Mia Farrow, who becomes irate when her friends tell her Lou was seen with a "cheap blonde." Danny reassures her this is not true because "Lou only cheats with one person at a time." Anyway, the plot thickens as she seeks the advice of Angelina, the fortune teller who dispenses advice from her bed to the waiting masses. A couple learns they will be visted by a man in a suit and they ask when, and Angelina replies, "When you least expect it." This is not funny here, but it is funny in the movie.
Anyway, Danny winds up running for his life after confiding to Farrow in a diner that his whole life is based on guilt. As he noted one of his family members said, "We are all guilty in the eys of God." Farrow then asks him if he believes in God, and Danny answers, "No, but I'm guilty about it."
For lines and a sweet movie that will leave you laughing and feeling good, I recommend this movie. Then go rent "Moon Over Parador," another movie no one has seen, but has great lines and performances by Richard Dreyfuss and Raul Julia.

Summary: My sentimental favorite
Review: I don't know about other Allen fans, but it's hard for me to pick just one favorite. I have a critical favorite which is Crimes and Misdemeanors but I really have a soft spot for my sentimental favorite Broadway Danny Rose. You can't help but love and really pull for Danny, he gives everything he's got for his acts. Mia Farrow just chews up the scenery as Tina. Wonderful characters, a brilliant script, and just a great heart warming story. At our house Danny is one of our Thanksgiving day traditions. It wouldn't be the same without Danny and Tina. A lot easier to digest than football.

Review: In every Directors collection of films there is what as known as a sleeper.Woodys is not the same title I just for go mentioned it is however Broadway Danny Rose. This Film Is Woody At his best this film is so funny that when I showed it to my best friend he could not stop laughing, and he could not breath from laughter.Rent It buy it you must see this movie.Danny Rose,Woody Allen plays a loser manager with horrible acts that no one else will manage he some gets the mob after him well need I say more. I gave this move my best rating and a copy in every format.

Summary: A little-known classic!
Review: This film is one of Allen's finest comedies, which puts it in the running for one of the finest comedies ever. If you're one of those narrow-minded Woody Allen haters who can't get past the man and see through to the art, then don't bother. But if you enjoy any of Woody's other work, I reccomend it highly. The fact that I'm the only reviewer here doesn't bode well for the possibility of a re-release, but one can only hope.

Review: This gentle and affectionate comedy is full of genuine warmth, something Woody's work does not always have. Sandy Baron narrates the story of Danny Rose, a likeable but blundering Broadway agent whose acts include a blind xylophone-player and a balloon-folder. Danny emerges as a hero-figure who stands up for the little guys and makes a difference in his own way, including in the life of a barely recognizable Mia Farrow. Witty, surreal and engaging, Broadway Danny Rose is a minor classic in the Allen canon, and not one to be glanced over.

Summary: Hysterical at any Speed!
Review: This is "the" Woody Allen movie for me. As always it is difficult to explain the full depth of the plot of most of Allen's films because they are mostly vignettes and moments of charm, wit, insanity, tenderness and possibly any additional human emotion one cares to list. Danny Rose( Allen), plays a schnook agent for various totally absurd acts. A blind Xylophonist, a balloon animal act..a woman who plays glasses and also Eddie Clark,s penguins ( who are dressed up as Rabbis). At one time he also was an agent for Nick Appolo Forte, a fat, has been singer..with a drinking problem.. The jokes come fast and furious with Danny Rose at first doing his act in the Catskills, then doing his thing as an agent.
During one of his hypnotic acts in the Catskills, he seems to have put in a deep trance an older Jewish Woman who is sitting on a chair with one arm extended..while her fatootsed husband is fretting over his wifes condition..Rose says to him" If your wife does not wake. up ...I,ll take you to any restaurant ..in town...........................do you like Chinese Food??? Vintage Allen with nice sentimental touches in the last reel...and a good chance to guys like Will Jordan,Sandy Baron, Jackie Gayle etc...Hysterical !! CP
