Rating: Summary: Not classic allen Review: Good fun and frothy but largely forgettable. Woody Allen appeared to marking time with this New York version of a Whitehall Farce. Still he's so productive that tehre's always another around the corner
Rating: Summary: Like the good old murder mystery days Review: Great movie. Made like the good oldies. A real plot, action, and suspense, without having to fill in with special effects. One you can watch over and over without tiring. Allen, Alda, Keaton and Houson at their best. They should have done more together. Also recommend Allen's newest movie, "Small Time Crooks". Keep them coming, Woody !!
Rating: Summary: One of Woody's Best Review: Having seen the majority of all of Woody Allen's films, Manhattan Murder Mystery continues to remain near the top of my list. It's a great murder caper about a bored housewife who suspects a neighbor of foul play. Her suspicions get the best of her, and soon she has a whole cast of friends and family trying to confirm her beliefs. It's funny and suspenseful and is filled with plenty of neurotic criticism from the husband, who could be played by no one other than the Woodman himself.
Rating: Summary: Minor Woody Review: Here's how disposable and forgettable this Woody film is -- as my wife and I were watching it the other night, we gradually realized we had seen it before. It is, however, a perfect vehicle for Woody's hysterical paranoia, as his wife, Diane Keaton, suspects and then gradually convinces a loudly skeptical Woody that their pleasant-seeming neighbor has disposed of his wife in a seemingly perfect crime. Problem is that this plot line involved too much of Woody playing Woody. By halfway through the film, his insecure, dubious, loudly averse to all risk, paranoic natterings become overindulgence, too much cotton candy on an empty stomach. Keaton's character is equally shrill, a lonely wife with a very vivid, but also true of course, imagination. Do not miss the wonderful sight gag and nod to cinema history involving a passing bus. Also, Anjelica Huston is, as always, a perfect haughty presence as an author whose novel makes Finnegan's Wake look like an easy read. Yes, Manhattan Murder Mystery does have its moments, but not enough to sustain its nearly two hours -- about twenty minutes longer than it should have run.
Rating: Summary: Truly hilarious and well made Review: Highly entertaining, with a very appealing cast of characters played by actors that work well together. Not to be missed.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: Honestly, I was excited to purchase/receive/view...just wasn't fast paced enough to keep my attention. I think you would have to definitely be a Woody Allen fan to get the most out of this. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
Rating: Summary: A Murder, A Mystery And Woody Allen: The Perfect Mix Review: I absolutely loved this film. I laughed. I jumped. I laughed some more. This script had been laying around for quite some time, and when Allen decided to resurrect it, I'm SO glad he got Diane Keaton to join him for the filming. Their chemistry is still there, and so is Allen's wonderful neurotic schtick. The elevator scene is priceless. I also greatly enjoyed the tape-player skit with Allen's inimitable bumbling. I think the film hiccups a bit when it abruptly switches to a film-noir ending. Mind you, I enjoyed the ending, especially the Welles homage, but I think this decidedly dark ending causes the whole vehicle to lose momentum. All in all this great fun with plenty of zany suspense and the fabulous interplay of Allen and Keaton.

Rating: Summary: Underrated but brilliantly funny. Review: I don't know why exactly this film got such a mediocre critical reaction; I suppose it has something to do with the fact that the subject is somewhat lighter than those of his late 1970's peak. The chemistry between Diane Keaton (the neurotic, excitable, bored wife) and Woody Allen (the neurotic--as always--and skeptical husband) is perfected here, and it is hard to imagine that Keaton and Allen are anything but a real-life long-married couple meandering through middle age in Manhatten. The one-liners are hilarious, and moreover, it feels as if it were filmed with a great deal of affection and joy. Along with Husbands and Wives, it stands as the best of his late period (mid-80's to present) films.
Rating: Summary: greatest living american film maker Review: i have followed his films and his career for most of my life. manhattan, annie hall, interiors, and for simple pleasure, manhattan murder mystery are among my TOP 5 favorite films. ( sorry woody..Lion in winter is there too!) i am a nut for good dialogue...and this film has given me Diane's Best performance since Shoot the Moon. and woody's ad-libbing style of delivery here is some of his best work. only his complex writing in Bullets Over Broadway matche some of the writing for this film.
