Summary: "Trick" treats guy meets guy relationship as it should be!
Review: It is suprisingly nice to see that Hollywood can make a movie that treats same sex relationships as normal and no different than any other. Initially, two young guys, one a musician the other a stripper, are attracted to each other for the same thing everyone desires in a one night stand. The story is their inability to find a place where they can be alone. They search all night through the early morning unsuccessfully, only to find that maybe there is more than just that one night in their interest with each other. Thankfully, this is not your typical main stream movie portraying gay stereotypes. It deals with human values and emotion. It is warm hearted and comical as if you are gay, you will laugh at yourself. If you liked "Beautiful Thing" and "The Sum of Us", you will like this movie. Put this one in your library!

Summary: Surprisingly Good!
Review: I saw this movie during the summer while visting in Provincetown, MA. I really did not have high expectations because of the quiet marketing. Although you do not recognize the stars in this movie, Tori Spelling was pretty good. She played the leads best friend, and actually...believe it or not she was Good! Although the movie was a little slow, the point it drove home was incredible. It really made you stop and think about what people say about others, and how jealously rears its ugly head. While sitting in the cinema in a predominately gay theater, you could imagine the mixed emotions. All I can say is that when the movie ended, people stood and applauded.

Summary: No trick here, but lots of treats
Review: In the splendidly delightful film "Trick", two young gentlemen succumb to the forces of nature and try to find a place to engage in their lusty mating rituals, only to discover that gold lies underneath the nice wrapping paper. I purchased "Trick" on DVD without viewing it in a theater first, a rare thing indeed, and pleasantly surprised I was. The two leads, Christian Campbell and JP Pitoc, pull off tremendous acting performances by underplaying their parts perfectly. This film could have easily been the usual gay campy fodder, but it manages to walk the line in remaining true to gay life in the 90's and avoiding the stereotypes that plague gay-themed films. Oh sure there is your standard drag queen and older flaming lounge-singer, but they break out of their two-dimensional molds and shine as complex characters. At times, the film is uneven, but you can overlook that when you begin to fall in love with the tale. Even Tori Spelling's performance, as an over-the-top, talentless Broadway actress fits in the groove of the film. Overall, the film's endearing message encourages us to look past the glitz and the glamour of the gay subculture to find the true person inside. I highly recommend "Trick" for your viewing pleasure.

Summary: Must See! Even if you are not gay!
Review: How often have I been disappointed by gay-themed films? Countless. They are often too stereo-typed, too sexual consious, too racial conscious, or simply just damn.
Then, TRICK came out and my friends and I were so entertained! The story is about two young gay boys, one is a hot go-go dancer (Mark) and the other is a wanna-be-a-musical writer (Gabriel), meeting up, and spending a night together in NYC. Though the first intention of both of them was just getting off as a one night stand, things did not go well as they planned when much drama started happening around them...
The movie is so sweet and, the best thing is, NOT unrealistic. What these two gay boys experience over night are happening to many gay youth (though surely in different levels and situations). I believe most of gay guys can feel Gabriel's excitement about the chance of having a go-go over his place, and those good looking ones can relate Mark's twisted feeling about being always seen as a sex object and his overly sexual attitude to fight against it. And even non-gay can agree with the story and the character's feelings to a great extent (according to my straight friends). Boys or girls, gay or straight, this film definetly will bring you a warm heart feeling and smile. If you cannot enojoy this film, you need to admit that you are somewhat too jaded!!

Summary: A delightfully entertaining film
Review: Unlike most 'gay movies', TRICK doesn't attempt to preach or make some "big statement". It's jsut a nice film about a typical kid in a big city (well, New York may not be a 'typical' city, but despite the stereotype, not all gay kids in NYC are millionaires) who catches the eye of a Go-Go Boy in one of the local dance clubs.It's a "date film", and after meeting up, the two boys try to find a place to get cozy & intimate with each other. There's no more 'sex' here than you'll find in any straight-couple movie , and I guess it shows that, when all's said 7 done, gay dating isn't a whole lot different than straight dating. While I suspect that most people reading this have already seen the film at least once, I won't ruin the ending for those who have not -- except to say that you'll be glad you wtched the whole film. Not a classic or a masterpiece, but a big breaktrough for gay films; gay boys are not wierd--in fact, the boy next door might be one. Happy viewing!

Summary: It Get's Better Every Time
Review: Yes, I went to see this movie simply because it was a "gay" movie. However, it turned out to be much better than I thought it would. I had read reviews in magazines, all of them at least liked it if not loved it. Still, I was a bit leery of a movie with Tori Spelling in it. Boy did she suprise me. I honestly couldn't think of anything wrong with the movie. I thought it was incredibly sexy (the scene with Mark standing behind Gabriel at the piano) romantic (pretty much the whole movie) funny (too many parts to list, but especially Tori's blow up at the end) I thought it was well acted, well written, and felt "real" to me. It didn't hurt that the leads were both good looking. However, this movie should not be considered just a gay movie. It is simply a romantic comedy, and as they go, this was one of the best I've seen - and I'm a major critic when it comes to movies, so it's really hard for me to find one that I would give a perfect score to. I guess if it was out of 10, I might be able to find a reason to take away half a point, but I doubt it. So, if you want a great date movie - honest - then get this one. I promise that by the end both of you will be feeling better than you did at the beginning. So who knows? Maybe what Gabriel and Mark ended up having at the end could happen to you.

Summary: an average pretend movie
Review: my God... i switched channels by mistake and i ended up watching the last 20-25 minutes of this movie -thankfully. this is The worst movie i have ever seen. a very bad pretend copy of "beautiful thing". there you got the sweet-looking guy, the streetwise guy, and the rest. believe me, i could've written a 10 times better plot for this movie. the dialogues are so so so not the lines you would've liked on a movie. okay, i do understand this is an "alternative genre" movie but that doesn't mean it has to be dumb. obviously, they wanted to make BT's american version with a weird twist, clearly, they screwed up baddddd. no two rocks hit the same spot (unless you're really good at it) so please, stop making copies out of somebody else's artwork.

Summary: IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Review: When Trick was released, it was during a time when the gay genre was emerging. In fact, in the late 90's it suddenly became chic to be gay. A play, movie, art exhibit could almost guarantee an audience just by having a gay theme. Sadly, most of the films were either formulaic, poorly acted, exploitation of stereotypes, or were really soft-core porn disguised as art-house indies, yet we as a community flocked to participate because finally there were messages for "us" regardless of how banal they were. Trick, however, was different. Trick was so different and so refreshing, I actually went to my local movie theater and saw it no less than five times! I now own the movie and watch it at least once a month. I'm not going to bother to go into the synopsis of the movie, as others have already done so. What I will say is that it is a sweet and funny romantic comedy, with star caliber performances (even from Tori Spelling...I know!). Yes, one may watch this and say...a middle aged queen belting out tunes at a piano bar is a stereotype, and they would be right, however between the script, the actors and the director, the audience sees something more than just stereotypes. The audience sees fully dimensional, well developed characters. The story is well crafted and the dialogue is sharp, funny, and most satisfying of all, real. And for anyone who hasn't run into a drag queen in the men's room...your life is not complete!

Summary: A Brilliant Romantic Bittersweet Comedy Worth Viewing
Review: "TRICK"; A funfilled comedy with its ups & downs. Gabe (Christian Campbell)an uninspiring (and who appears to be sexually inexperianced)musical songwritter shares a Manhattan apartment with his str8 roomate who never lets Gabe have a private moment to himself; also in the cast of charthers is his neurotic manic friend (Tori Spelling)who never shuts up or gets the hint that Gabe needs his own space. In gay stripping bar Gabe eyes Mark one of the featured strippers. While on the subway Marc and Gabe happen to see each other and Mark show a mild intrest in Gabe.
What follows, is a night of comedy of errors as the two try to find a venue to share the evening. Gabe brings Mark to his apartment only to walk in on the neurotic girl friend using his printer and domanate the conversation and doesn't get the hints to leave. Frustrated, Gabe has friend in a piano bar that lends his room out; but incounter his ex-boyfriend on the walk there and reconnects and goes home instead to patch the relationship up. Mark takes Gabe to a gay dance bar, only to encounter marks ex tricks and a jaded drag queen who tries to break the two up. Disinchanted, Gabe leaves Mark in the bar to return to his apartment to wait outside while his roomant "finishes" his business with his girl inside. Mark meets up in the hallway to try to apologise. As the night continues time after time the two try to have some private time together only to be interupted by 1 of the main charters.
You cant help to have empathy for the two men and laugh at their predictiment. The screenplay was first class hollywood and was released through New Line Home Video; but due to the subject matter,was not made for mainstream viewing, but a must in the gay library.
