Summary: A GREAT "AGENDALESS FILM"
Review: What I loved most about this film is it's lack of "message" or agenda. Other then telling a great story this film had nothing to "prove". There were no tearfelt speeches for aids victims, no angst about the pain of coming out, just great characters engaged in a funny offbeat script (with dialouge as good as any by Neal Simon) that works. There are many complicated plot elements that all come together nicely and that's not easy to do. The way the writer ties the lead characters struggle to finish his song with the rest of the plot is brilliant. I also differ with the criticism of a previous writer who claimed the two characters had no chemistry and would never be together in "reality". One could see from J.P. Pitoks admirable performance that the character was more then just a beefcake. In fact i thought they made a really cute realistic couple not in spite of but BECAUSE of their differences. The ending scene of them walking down the street said it all.....Gabriel couldn't shut up, and Mark couldn't speak. But laughed in the right places. A great film. The fact that no "message" is needed shows that the gay community might be beginning to feel more accepted.

Summary: gay trauma in the 1st dimention
Review: With wooden characters in tote, "Trick" showcases the gay lifestyle in a typical and stereotypical conventiality. Of course the geeky choir boy is going to fall for the phoney go go boy jock. On the other hand, is the hunky stud going to fall for the geeky and seemingly nancy geek off tha street? Not in the real world honey! These two guys were as unbelievable as a drag queen's horse hair wig! I found it very hard to fathom that this "relationship" could ever exist or stand the test of time. Headline: Studly manly man dumps nerd. Newsflash: This kind of coupling doesn't exist in the gay community, leaving any chance at love and a meaningful relationship of these two in a dirty New York City gutter.Tori Spelling delivers a robust performance, crying over cheese fries, and the drag queen having a heart to heart with the love-torn boy in the bathroom was quite engaging. Unfortuantely the rest of the movie seemed too unrealistic for me to latch onto,leaving me more to scoff at than laugh at. It was hard to focus in on the meat of the story when you had to get through all the syrup making this a truely sticky situational dramady.

Summary: A great gift for your crush, if you really dare!
Review: If you wish to give a friend a present or a treat, whether be on his/her birthday, anniversary, valentine's day or a hot date, the movie, Trick would be a great choice and a big move to get that close to someone. Trick is a laughable story about two hopeful romantic guys trying to "get off" away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The story is wonderful in its entirety as it portrays a typical gay dating scene on a cosmopolitan setting that can turn into chaos just like for Gabe (Christian Campbell) & Mark (JP Pitoc), who played the starring roles. Both have interesting professions. Gabe is in the theater arts while Mark is in body worshipping, a "gogo" boy for short. It is so magical and intriguing to see how the two connects in a fast paced city life especially when it's complicated by one chaotic moment to another and another, which makes it entertaining and hilarious to its extreme. The movie has a wonderful cast which includes a jealous drag queen, a straight roommate and his aspiring sex therapist, a cabaret singer and most notably, a neurotic best friend, played by Tori Spelling, who are all part of this circus of chaotic events. Ms. Spelling's ballistic outburst at the restaurant scene was one hell of an act that will surely put the audience a shock because I did. She's really good. The movie has a positive ending after Gabe & Mark's kissing scene (finally), which resembles the main title of the movie. Besides the story, the movie has a wonderful soundtrack and performances. Steve Hayes, who played the gay Cabaret singer, performed "Como Te Gusta Mi Pinga", which has funny lyrics. Of course, Tori Spelling performed her Broadway number "Enter You" which is sensational. To the dance club scene, there are excerpts of dance anthems by Erin Hamilton (Dream Weaver), Jessica Williams (I Am Woman), Kim English (Unspeakable Joy) and among others. A beautiful love ballad "Trick of Fate" performed by Valerie Pinkston is played at the end credits of the DVD. In fact, there is a separate soundtrack CD that is available, and believe me, it has these great dance anthems. So treat yourself on owning both the DVD and the movie soundtrack on CD coz my peers drew the same feedback for a great gay comedy and an amazing sountrack. If you're expanding your gay library or if you're starting to build one, Trick is it. It's funny and will surely warm your hearts.

Review: This is a must see movie for all romantics. It cheers you up and when you reach the end you don't want the movie to stop. The actors are good looking, which adds a little plus and in my opinion, Tori Spelling is good. Don't miss it !!!

Summary: Chelsea Fun Without The Attitude
Review: What do you get when you mix an aspiring musician working as an office temp with a hot go-go boy? The answer is "Trick" a charming movie that proves that looks aren't everything. Christian Campbell (brother of Neve) stars as Gabriel, a composer of showtunes who meets the man of his fantasies dancing atop a counter at a gay club in New York. J.P. Pitoc, who plays Mark, is the go-go boy with a body to die for who finds himself and Gabriel trying to locate a place where they can fool around. Due to several mishaps, both men get to know each other's interests and friends, and eventually they discover each other's inner beauty. Pitoc is probably the best looking actor I have seen on film in recent years and his torso inspired me to work out even more. He provided enough eye candy for everyone. Campbell is great as Gabriel, however the two scene stealers in this are Clinton Leupp who plays the bitchy drag queen that confronts Gabriel about Mark's past and Tori Spelling, who plays Gabriel's best friend. Personally, seeing that her father had no role in producing this film gave Ms. Spelling more credibility that she was casted in this film for her talent and not because of neptotism (e.g. "House of Yes"). An excellent soundtrack of dance music will keep you in the mood, and the interesting characters in this film will give those who have never stepped into a gay/lesbian club circuit an idea of what goes on after the sun sets. Except for a kiss between the two main characters and a brief encounter beneath a piano, there are hartdly any references to gay sex. I encourage anyone to watch this film in what I consider a gay version of the "Pick Up Artist".

Summary: Buy This Movie
Review: I bought this movie, and expected it to be really great, and it was! I loved it. The characters are real, not the over used, over sexed ones you can find in a lot of "gay" movies out there. The setting is wonderful, completely in keeping with the feel of the movie, and the situations of the characters. Gabe is cute, vulnerable, and obviously working on achieving his dreams in life. Mark is Confident, macho, and really cute. They get to meet, and during the course of trying to have a one night stand, with constant interuptions, find the beginnings of a relationship. The supporting cast is great too. Tori Spelling is actually good in her roll as the "gay man's best friend" LOL you have to love that. The character of Perry is just incredibly funny, witty, and ultimately loveable. If you don't own this movie, buy it, rent it, get it any way you can, it is worth it.

Review: The premises of this movie is a cool one. Two guys just tryin' desperately to wrap up a one-night-stand end up discovering there is more to their relationship than just sex. Bein' a gay kid myself who sometimes wonders about the differences between love and sex this movie seemed very interesting to me. My parents watched it with me, and I'm sure they'd give it "1" star just because of the subject matter, but they're just silly adults. I personally enjoyed it very much. It was charming, sweet, and funny when it needed to be. All the workings of a good romantic comedy. The characters may mostly be an assortment of stereotypes which does hurt the film some, but it doesn't make it less worth your time. The problems this cute couple keep running into this hectic night range from mildly amusing to downright hilarious... The straight roomate's bimbo chick-friend, the bitter drag queen in the bathroom, the bit where Mark plays it up for Gabe's friend when his ex shows up... Definetely wortha few laughs. Gabe's chick-friend, Tori Spelling, is also funny although many will find her annoying. She was annoying when she wouldn't frickin' leave the apartment and leave the boys in peace! Sheesh! Although Mark looks bored way to much and it makes one question if Gabe and Mark are really compatible at all, it doesn't distract to much. All in all, Trick is good gay cinema, and may even appeal to some members of the straight audience which doesn't go for all gay films. I recommend a rent at the very least. I intend to buy it. Hey, you even get to see Mark dance! <drool>

Review: As a Gay Man, I was expecting the usual "farce" of a gay "COMEDY" that seems to be the rule for all movies these days that deal with a one-on-one man-to-man relationship...Imagine my SURPRISE when I first saw TRICK on my DSS system! This movie not only portrays the FACT that MOST gay relationships are far more spiritual than just sexual,but also demonstrates that we ,as gay men, are more than just out for "One Night Stands"..indeed we need,want,and seek Love,devotion,and commitment every bit as much as our straight counterparts.To demonstrate how much I enjoyed this movie,..Let me say this...Because it is currently only available for purchase on DVD ...I went out and bought,not only the movie on DVD, but also a DVD player to watch it on! That should speak VOLUMES about this movie, its cast and its director!

Summary: I'm wearing out the DVD
Review: A wonderful relief on the average gay themed movie. No one had to battle HIV, bashing or political oppression. "Trick" offers a very realistic view of meeting Mr. Right Now and no place to go. Christen Campbell and JT Pitok are great together and Tori Spelling is fantastic as the ever present fag hag. The comedy is subtle, but strong, leaving one laughing. Combine this with a killer soundtrack and you have a great movie.

Summary: Slow in Places, Ultimately Satisfying
Review: This movie was quite a surprise. I had low expectations, I suppose, but I ended up finding it redeeming. It is a gay-themed movie, to be sure, but there are more complex things going on than a simple exploration of gay relationships. It's about Gabriel, a clean-cut, young man who has just landed on the comfortable side of being out, who meets a go-go boy he's attracted to. The plan is for them to hook up for the night somewhere, but various things get in the way, including Gabriel's best friend, played by Tori Spelling. Some of their impediments also slow the movie down a bit, but ultimately it's satisgying. There is a lot of play with stereotypes, but they get turned on their heads, subtly. The movie critiques the "gay scene"... That and other critiques play subtly through and make "Trick" very satsifying to watch.
