Summary: Don't expect special features
Review: Once again, Matt Stone & Trey Parker have screwed their fans. I've been a fan of South Park since the beginning, but here's the problem I have with the South Park franchise.First, they offer no rebate for those who have already purchased the South Park episodes released in the "Volumes" format. Some studios have been gracious enough to offer rebates up to 25% off the retail price of the DVD if the customer bought the VHS tape prior to the DVD release. Second, both season one and season two DVDs lack the special features of similarly-priced "season" sets. A great example is The Simpsons DVD series. They provide each episode with audio commmentary from the key people in the show. They also have plenty of special features: how things were done, special TV appearances, music videos, and more. What do Trey and Matt give us? Short 30 second introductions from the previously released "Volumes" series, in which they say that "this is our favorite episode." The people of South Park offer the audio commentary, but you have order it from Comedy Central and play the CD in-sync with the DVD player. The DVD player has the ability to include multiple audio tracks, the people at South Park should use them. I don't care what their reasons are, just do it. To quote from one of the more current episodes of South Park, "But The Simpsons did it!" The people at South Park should buy The Simpsons season series and take notes. While I enjoy the South Park series, I don't feel I should pay the same price for a lesser product. If you're going to charge as much for a similar product, such as The Simpsons, you'd better have an equally good or better product. Overall, I rate this product a 3 out of 5 stars, because the producers are capable of better. If you love the show, buy the DVD, but don't expect Matt or Trey to put any extra effort into the product. They're too busy trying other things, like making movie flops such as Baseketball instead of doing what made them famous, South Park. Oh, the DVD does include a documentary on the Second Season, but you may have already seen it, since it was on Comedy Central months ago. My suggestion is, buy the DVD. Whether we like it or not, this is the only bone that the producers at South Park are going to throw us. But knowing them, they'll probably come up with a "Special Edition" in a year or so, with things done right. They'll expect us to ditch the seasons we've already bought for a product they should've provided in the first place. If the producers of this title are reading, please restore what little faith I have in you.

Summary: Hitting its stride
Review: Season 1 was groundbreaking, but season 2 is when it got really good. The April Fool's joke was a good way to start it off, even though most people didn't think it was funny. This set includes such classics as Chickenlover, The Mexican Staring Frog Of Southern Sri Lanka, Chickenpox, and Prehistoric Ice Man, but my favorites are Clubhouses and Gnomes.
This set should be owned by every South Park fan with a DVD player out there.

Review: Season 2 is my personal favorite season of South Park.

Season 1 and 2 are the best and classic seasons, the others were great but not THAT special and classic as the first two seasons.

* Season 1- Cartman's Anal Probe, Big Gay Al, Pink Eye and Cartman's Mom is a Slut.
* Season 2- Chikenlover, Chef Aid, Spooky Vision and Gnomes.
* Season 3- Starvin Marvin in Space, World Wide Concert and Chinpoko Mon.
* Season 4- This is one of the VERY BEST seasons of South Park.
* Season 5- Scott Tenorman, Towelie, Cripple Fight and Osama Bin Laden.
* Season 6- This is one of the VERY BEST seasons of South Park.
* Season 7- Is GREAT but not THAT cool except for Cancelled and Cristian Rock Hard.
* Season 8- The best episodes until now are Fun with Weapons and Passion of the Jew but is still GOOD.

Summary: Great except for the interviews by the creators
Review: South Park is about 4 rather irreverent 3rd graders, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman, who experience some remarkable things despite living in the very rural and backwards South Park, Colorado. The second season reveals several details about the kids: the identity of Cartman's father; Kyle's brother, Ike, is a Canadian Jew and is adopted, etc. The episodes also build upon the advances of the first season and push the envelope, reaching for ever greater heights in comedic flippancy and disrespect. Despite the blatant offensiveness of the series a number of the episodes actually deal with some rather interesting social issues and, as offensive as it may be to some, I do find the series to be funny. A large part of the humor stems from the premise and inherent contrast of the characters: 8 year olds who are often as insightful and mean as adults but at the same time innocent enough to pull off outright bigotry. None of the episodes actually seemed to stand out as breaking new ground for the episode, other than perhaps the one that is highlighted throughout - Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls song. I didn't actually find it to be that funny, but it does venture into slightly new territory. The extras are kind of interesting, but probably not in the way that they were intended to be. First, as noted above, I didn't really find the music video, Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls, to be all that funny, but that isn't going to be the focus of my review of the extras. The major element of the extras is the documentary, which combines interviews with the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, interviews with the production staff, and behind the scenes footage. This featurette is nearly 60 minutes long and talks about how South Park came into existence, how the creators met, the response to South Park, and some elements of how the show is now produced. Despite being rather informative, the featurette is peppered with snippets of an unrelentingly lame interview with the creators: Trey and Matt. They are obviously trying to be funny basking in their Hollywood hot tub and speaking strictly sarcastically about everything. But what they apparently don't realize is that their success with the comedic presentation of the cartoon does not translate into them being funny in person. They are not at all funny. As a matter of fact I was much more interested in watching everything but them in the featurette because they were such idiots. If you can skip through the painful interview with Trey and Matt the rest of the featurette is actually very informative and pretty entertaining. There are even some clips from interviews with individuals that have attacked the moral debauchery of the series. To any South Park fan the interviews, which don't receive much comment, are actually quite funny. There is no need to mock them because the interviewees make themselves look rather silly. In the end, despite being generally informative, the featurette turns into a drawn out tennis match between the engaging and entertaining behind the scenes stuff and the agonizing interview with the creators. Why the DVD producers think that South Park fans are interested in watching Matt and Trey lounge in a hot tub and spew sarcasm and ridiculum is beyond me, but apparently it made it past the cutting room. If you do end up watching it, you've been warned. Building upon their horrible hot tub interview in the featurette, the creators, Matt and Trey, then decide to give a brief introduction to each episode. Stupidly, there are several introductions that don't actually offer any real information about the episodes. Most are continuous (and incredibly pathetic) attempts by Matt and Trey to be funny. Again, they fail gloriously to even get a rise out of the viewer. One series of introductions is set in an old folks' home as Matt and Trey berate the elderly while supposedly entertaining them. This is drivel, not humor. Hopefully the next season's release will include absolutely no footage of Matt and Trey trying to be funny in person. But after watching their trash this time I don't know that I could even bring myself to listen to them if they tried to be serious. They are more annoying than they are entertaining and should be banned from actually being seen in person on any future releases. When you include the 'making of'/'behind the scenes' featurette, this DVD collection is likely to venture into the 'worth your money' category, if you're a South Park fan. If you're not, there's probably a reason for it. If you have yet to be exposed to the wonder that is South Park and are entertained by foul language, crude sexuality, and bigotry (how the creators pull this off still amazes me), then you may want to check it out.

Summary: The Master of Comedy
Review: South Park is and always will be the master of comedy. It has always been a great show and still is to this day. I've also purchased Season 1 which wasn't as good as good as season 2 but was still amazing. This season marks moving over from fart jokes and senseless vulgarity. To witty jokes and structureed vulgarity. The episodes are presented in an even better format than last time. Plus everything is up to code. A job well done! Thank You South Park!

Summary: Best show ever, not so good DVD
Review: South Park is the funniest show on television. I'm glad the seasons are being released on DVD, but WB should have made it better, mostly because of the lack of commentary. But I'd like to point one thing out: South Park is owned by Commedy Central, and therefore Trey Parker and Matt Stone have no control over murchandising. CC asked for WB to make the DVDs, and they didn't do the best job. Matt and Trey ony make the show (and do a damn good job) and if they're asked to do a commentary, they'll do it. The episode intros were taken from the video sets and put on the DVD, and I find them very funny. They include Matt and Trey being creul to old people and feeding lots of bacon to a pig. (Disc 3 doesn't have any intros.) Another thing WB screwed up was the sound. It's clear, but on some parts of the DVD it gets quiet and turning up the sound on your TV doesnt help. All 18 episodes are in order, where they're supposed to be (unlike season 1) and i think South Park fans should own this. P.S. I read a review for season 1 from an angered mother saying she showed it to her little kids thinking it was intended for children. If she was smart enough, she would notice that it is rated mature, meaning you SHOULDN'T show it to 5 and 8 year olds or people that are easily offended. But DON'T go blaming media for all your problems. Thanks for reading my first Amazon review.

Summary: Atleast it's not a Best of...
Review: South Park...over 100 episodes and they're still going to make more new episodes in October. If you're reading this review you've probably bought Season 1 on DVD and are thinking about getting Season 2. This DVD has 18 classic episodes and contains some of my personal favorites including Chicken Lover(You will respect my authoritah!), Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls, Prehistoric Iceman, and the episode revealing who Cratman's father is. Special Features include subtitles, the documentary"Goin' Down to South Park", the music video for Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls", and the original Unaired Pilot. The Unaired Pilot is the original first episode but 28 minutes long. That original episode was made out of constucion paper by Eric Stough, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone in a room the size of a closet and took three months to make. If you're a fan of the show this is a must have.

Review: The episodes are all great. But does anyone know how to turn off those commentaries at the beginning of each episode. I find them extremely annoying. Anyone agree?

Review: The Humor sounds like it would appeal to 3rd graders. The "humor" consists of poop and farting jokes. Just not funny. All the episodes have stole something from The Simpsons, a show that is 10x more funny than south park.

Review: the second season of south park offers more of the hilarious episodes we've come to expect from matt & trey. from "chicken lover" (respect my athoritah) to "flashbacks" (now thats a sticky situation) to "roger ebert should lay off the fatty foods" (i want cheesy poofs you want cheesy poofs if we didnt have cheesy poofs we'd be dead), this immortal season has offered up tons of catchphrases that have found their way everywhere in american society. the DVD doesnt have many extras but the documentary going down to south park had me laughing my a.ss off. theres a scene where some tighta.ss is explaining why south park should be taken off the air that is so whiny its amazingly funny. even the intros to the episodes are hilarious. in one set matt and trey host a cooking show called "makin bacon with macon" where they toss bacon scraps to a pig. who thinks of this stuff? five stars.
