Review: The following review is specifically about this latest DVD rerelease of Pride and Prejudice, not of the film itself (which, as anyone can see by reading all the reviews here and everywhere else, is a GREAT movie).This NEW and improved DVD release of Pride and Prejudice is excellent. The picture quality is great - ten times better than the old DVD release (which many people complained about). I have seen both DVDs and there is definitely a noticeable difference. Also, included in this version is a 30 minute "making of" featurette that was not on the previous American DVD. Of course it isn't long enough for everyone who is obsessed with this film, but it is still pretty good. And lastly, this DVD is CHEAPER than the old one and a downright bargain for $...! By this one today and watch it over and over and over and over... (Also, check out "Wives and Daughters" which was made by the same folks).

Review: I am surprised that this important work is presented with no hint of captions or subtitles. How hard can it be when creating the work for publication to include this worthwhile device, i.e. the track for captions?

Summary: New "Special Edition" DVD is not much better
Review: The new widescreen DVD version is not a whole lot better than the original pan and scan DVD. The colour is still washed out (probably even more so than the original DVD). To make matters worse, this new edition has FAR too much contrast. The highlights are blown out, and the subtle shadow areas are all solid black. There's also FAR too much edge enhancement. The only advantages to this new DVD edition are the use of anamorphic widescreen, the addition of a brief "making of" featurette, and a few text biographies. Be forewarned: you might want to hang on to the original DVD version. This new one is not an improvement, and in many ways, is even worse.

Review: An absolute must have for Colin Firth fans (helen Feilding wrote Mr Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary, with him in mind) and an alround great movie. Get some popcorn, candles and cuddle up.

Summary: Horrible transfer in the Special Edition
Review: One of the best adaptations of Jane Austin's work has been marred by a horrible transfer to DVD. The color saturation extremely poor and I find it unwatchable. I have the previous version of the DVDs as well and although grainy and of relatively poor quality, it is much more watchable than the Special Edition. The best quality I've found is on the VHS versions of the miniseries.

Summary: It grows on you
Review: When I first saw this, I was very "prejudiced" against it, because I had seen the other BBC version so many times. But it grew on me (not that Colin Firth didn't help). There are definitely parts from the other one that I prefer to this one (the scene where Darcy and Elizabeth confess they love each other--gaah! could they be stiffer?) but the depth of some of the characters is better in this one. Darcy in particular is given more substance and motivation. We see the progression of his feelings (we learn he actually HAS feelings) and actually feel sorry for him when he gets shot down. Also, I heard Andrew Davies (the screenwriter) speak at a local university, and learned about all the little sexual innuendos he put into it. Now when I see it, it's almost dirty.

Review: I absolutely love this version of "Pride & Prejudice!" I can't even say how many times I have watched this over & over; all 6 hours worth. If you're a romantic at heart, or love period films, you'll love this.

Summary: This is a superb adaptation
Review: This is a superb adaptation of Jane Austen's "pride and Predjudice" . I recommend it! Nothing like the silly adaptation of the 1930. I loved the story, the acting, the ending, everything! Buy it! It is well worth it! I just could not stop watching it! I was stuck to my TV until I finished it.

Review: I can only repeat what everyone else has said here about this movie. It is truly wonderful. I remember when I first watched this movie I couldn't believe how amazing it was. I kept saying to myself "I love this movie." I could go on and on about it but it seems everyone else here already has so instead I will go on about the performance of the lead actress Jennifer Ehle who plays Elizabeth Bennett. She was just amazing as Lizzy. She reminds one of Meryl Streep with her ability to display differant facial expressions with her eyes and smile. She is also truly beautiful. Some of the highlights of the film that really showcase her acting ability are the Lady C confrontation scene and of course the the 1st proposal scene. You can feel her anger. She has a real strong presence as an actress. Then there are the subtle scenes she just delivers in like the talks she has with Jane. My favorite is the one she has with Jane when she finds about Bingley's leaving and she talks about the few people she really loves.
It is a miniseries and she is in just about every scene so it takes a strong actess to carry the film or I believe it would not have worked as well as it does. It works amazingly well. Her and Colin Firth have incredible chemistry. You just want to see them together.
One more thing about Miss Ehle. Since seeing this movie I wanted to see some of her other work and I recommend fans seeing a movie called "Sunshine" with Ralph Fiennes. The movie is not perfect but her performance is the highlight of the film.

Review: I put it in for the first time and didn't leave the house for a week. Ahhhh. Colin Firth! Where have you been all of my life? And will the real Mr. Darcy's of the world please stand up? I NEVER act like this. No one is safe from Mr. Darcy. Dangerous stuff.
