Summary: Torgo Rocks........The Master Will Be Pleased
Review: "Manos" the hands of Fate is the worst movie to ever exist and you never want to watch it alone. It is so terrible that the two main villians are so lame. There is Torgo who has really big knees and likes to peep into windows and then there's the Master who is supposed to be satan or something. He like to wear a rob with very big hands on it. (...) This is one of my favorite episodes so bought the DVD of it. I think the quality of the DVD could be better but as far as the movie itself, it is worth a peek. I only wish Rhino would release Attack of the Eye Creatures. My tape of that one is getting worn out.

Summary: Not for the squeamish
Review: In MST's 'Amazing Colossal Episode Guide,' Best Brain-member Mary Jo Pehl writes that this movie haunted the whole team, and became 'our standard by which all other [films] are measured.' Why? 'Manos' is 'far and away the most loathsome, repulsive, unpleasantest, vilest, ickyest, blechiest film to come along in MST3K's rich film history.'

And she's not kidding either. If you ever -- in some God-forsaken universe -- find yourself watching 'Manos: The Hands of Fate' without the benefit of Joel and The Bots' little silhouettes on the bottom of the screen, flee for your very life. Chew off your own arm if you have to. Just get away.

*With* J&TB there, however, 'Manos' is definitely worth the trip, for out of the team's agony came one of the best -- and certainly the most memorable and popular -- MST episode ever (as you can see from the number of reviews on this page). Get this video. It's that simple.

If you don't ... 'the Master will not be pleased.'

The only condition is that you should also buy the 'Mr B's Lost Shorts' video, so you can see the first part of 'Hired!' -- part two of which begins this episode.

Summary: Technical glitches - beware
Review: In spite of having the hillarious Poopie Vol.1 reel on it, around track 16 (the layer change I assume), the playback stops. Not pauses - stops. Of course you can cue up track 17 and back up to the errant position and continue watching but obviously, Rhino (or SOMEONE) has really fouled up this edition.

Also released at the same time of "Manos" my (purchased at the same time) copy of Mitchell seems to be "warped" for lack of a better word. Either that or it's taken a new record for putting out dull off-center throbbing sounds from BOTH of my DVD players. This is pretty bad considering how cheap and simple it is to press DVDs these days. Either Rhino has let quality control go to the dogs, or this is a bad omen for future releases. Buyer beware - or keep that receipt in your quest to find a working copy

Summary: Classic episode, but be careful showing it to your friends.
Review: Manos was the third MSTie episode I saw, right after "Mitchell" and Ed Wood's "Bride of the Monster." Manos is a tough episode to warm up to. Yes, Joel & the Bots are brilliant here, and it's their riffs & frank remarks that give this DVD so much replay value.

However, the actual "Manos" movie is utterly irredeemable. Until you have seen Manos, you do not know how bad a movie can be. Watching it the first few times will be a test of your endurance, especially if you don't drink or use mind-altering substances to ease the pain. Before long, you will be like Joel when he screams, "DO SOMETHING!" at the motionless actors onscreen.

That said, the MST3K version is brilliant, because it makes a horrible movie experience a howling delight.

Summary: Waste of Film, Great Video
Review: Everything about this movie is awful: the "story", what there is of one, the "acting", the largely Gene Kroupa-influenced soundtrack, the "special effects" which consist of the director hiding the action by clever use of NO LIGHTING WHATSOEVER,the seemingly endless supply of stock footage of driving through west Texas by the Director, who also produced and "starred" in "Manos", the "monster" which turns out to be a short man who closely resembles a chain saw sculpture of Punxatawny Phil the Groundhog, only with giant knees, oh the list goes on...

It does, however, make for a great episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, as Joel Robinson and his robot friends quip their way through the "film" in an effort to protect their sanity. Coupled with the short film "Hired (Part Two)", made by an American automobile company sometime in the early 50's, this tape/dvd is a classic and anyone who loves a bad film will love this.

If you've never seen MST3K, or if you are wondering which to buy, this is a must. If you love bad movies, you will love "MST3K- MANOS The Hands of Fate"

Summary: *Insert haunting Torgo theme here*
Review: Having been an MSTs since late 91'. It was then I caught the second half of "Castle of Fu Manchu" one night by pure, serendipitous accident, and I have been an ardent fan since. I think it's safe to say we each have our own favorite episodes, and many of the very best ones are sold right here. This is, undeniably, the worst movie I have ever seen which makes it the perfect fodder for Joel and the Bots' antics...which makes it one of my absolute favorite MST3K episodes. Interestingly enough, I missed this one back when it originally aired, so the fact that you can get tapes and DVD's of the original shows is fantastic...I cannot imagine what life would have been like without witnessing Torgo firsthand!

Here's the plot: Take the perfectly rounded, all-American family (mom, dad, daughter, and a poodle thing named Fifi), send them on a 30 minute ride through barren landscapes, have them take a wrong turn past a lip-locked couple drinking A1 Sauce (it's true!), and focus a lot on the dad's receding hairline. Torgo's appearance is ludicrous, even without Joel and Co.'s commentary, and I have to admit that the thigh impediment is a definitely scary thing. Throw in some scantily clad women dressed in sheets, a Frank Zappa lookalike who appears to have raided Patti LaBelle's personel wardrobe, and you have the makings of what has to be at the very least the top 5 funniest MST3K outtings.

I'm glad I bought this tape, or else I would have never experienced it for the masterpiece of bad filmmaking it is. This is a must have. I do wish they'd add some more episodes to the collection though...I'd pay a lot of money for a good copy of "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (my personal favorite), "The Castle of Fu Manchu" and "Hercules vs. the Moonmen".

My mom will be sewing us some Manos robes with the giant red hands (and one with giant red feet, ala Joel's version) before Christmas. Oh what fun that'll be!

KEEP CIRCULATING THE TAPES

Summary: Torgo Steals Movie - Arrested For Petty Theft!
Review: Just as Toga parties became a fad after the release of "Animal House" in 1978, so the renewed popularity of "Manos: Hands Of Fate" has sparked a Torgo party craze in college campuses across the country. Hollywood is abuzz with the rumor that either Steven Spielberg or George Lucas will direct the prequel, "Torgo - The Early Years."

Summary: Best Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode
Review: This is simply the best episode of the series, and one of the worst and most incoherent movies ever made. Includes the lovable Torgo who takes care of the place while the master is away, and a bevy of scantily clad women who have this really lame catfight. Also, a large portion of the movie is taken up by footage of the Texas countryside passing at high speed.

Summary: Manos-The Hands of Fate: The absolute WORST movie ever made
Review: "Manos-The Hands of Fate" is by far the worst movie ever made. It was directed by a wealthy manure farmer from Texas who had no previous directing experience. From 5 minutes of nothing but drive-by scenery to the part where one of the characters get slapped to death, this movie makes no sense from the start. Why did I rate this movie 5 stars? Because of the antics of Joel and his two robot pals, Crow and Tom Servo. They make the best out of this movie by poking fun at it from every direction. This is considered the "Flagship Episode" for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 series because it is so bad. If you are a true MST3K fan, it is worth it to own this classic; however, if you have never seen the series before and have no idea about what I am talking about, it basically goes like this: A human and two robots sit in a movie theater and make fun of really bad movies, and all the while you see the silhouettes of their heads. There are skits in between the actual movie, but the best part of the show is the movie itself when they poke fun at it. If you have never seen the series before, but you are interested in it, I suggest you start with an episode such as "Mitchell" or "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie" to get you warmed up for this one.

Summary: ....the haunting "Torgo Theme"...
Review: This is the worst movie ever made. Don't believe me? Go to The Internet Movie Database! As you will find, it was produced by the Manure King of Texas and, to pad out the movie (I use the term loosely), they simply point the camera out the car window and let it run! However, as done by MST3K, it is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. This is a must for any Mystery Science fan, and for any fan of bad movies. This is a film even Ed Wood could make fun of!
