Summary: GREAT!!!
Review: I love this movie! After watching 7 times in Russian I can see it in English now! It is my favourite movie.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than any (even BBC!) previous version...
Review: I was entirely shocked to see that some here actually felt that the BBC version was better than this production! While perhaps the best up until the time that it was made, that production has to give way to this one, in terms of acting, production values, and almost more importantly casting.

I was very impressed as I had seen numerous (if not all) of the previous adaptations in English (--going way back to Greer Garson) as this has always been a favorite book of mine, but the two leads in this production brought a lilting naturalness to many of the classic lines that far outshown any other actors. From the moment that she utters the line, "For a young man of good fortune MUST be in want of a wife!" Jennifer Elhe brings a spirit, humor, and subtle sarcasm to the role of Elizabeth that surpasses ALL of the others.(EVEN Ms. Garson) Her interpretation echoes the letters of Austen herself and the style of her outlook.

As for Colin Firth, he manages to bring to the role a dimension that I believe Austen intended, --though it may not have been explicit in her text-- the spirit of the character of D'Arcy as a shy and appealing person under his proud exterior. We are SUPPOSED to fall for him along with Elizabeth, yet so many in the past (particularly in the BBC version) chose to portray the man too rigidly for this to truly be accomplished.

The supporting cast is excellent. Nearly all of the Bennetts are realized as well, or better, than in other productions. A brilliant adapation that adds to the novelist's stature. (One more note to a previous reviewer: the ages of the actors in this production are actually more historically acurate (in spirit) to this time period: men and women of the upper classes often did wait to marry until their mid 20's, (although Elizabeth is said to be "...not one and Twenty..." And D'Ardy WAS actually older).

Summary: I could watch this movie a million times over!
Review: After first seeing the movie "Pride and Prejudice" I could not wait to read the book, and see the movie again. I have now read the book twice and I stiil enjoy the story as much as ever. Don't be intimidated by the Old English style of writing or the movie's length. If you want to have a wonderful time, please watch "Pride and Predjudice"; you won't regret it!

Summary: tremendous dialogue
Review: Holds your attention, is often humorous, helps to understand the way things were at that time, beautiful scenery, very good acting, and the dialogue needs to be listened to.....Jane Austen is gifted with insight and laughing at her world.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not for the most critical admirers of Jane Austen
Review: It seems that a lot of people like this adaptation, but I can't understand why. Being a loyal Austen fan, I can't stand any adaptation that does not do the original justice. This is a lavish production, but many of the characters are terribly miscast. Both Darcy and Elizabeth are played by someone who looks old and ordinary. How can you endure this? Mr. Darcy has to be young, handsome, and attractive. so is Elizabeth. Jane and Mr. Bingley don't look much better either in this movie. If the characters do not look right, nothing can be right.

Summary: Indeed! A truly wonderful movie!
Review: This version of P&P is the best adaption of any book to a movie. The first time I watched it I could not believe how well the actors fit the characters in my imagination. I would recommend it to anyone, even without reading the book first.

Summary: Ohh Mr. Bennet You know not how I suffer"
Review: If there ever was a movie that would entice me to read a book. Then this is the one. It is one of the best movies that I have ever had the pleasure to watch again and again and again. Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Lydia and Kitty Bennet. Such rich characters. You are almost tempted to believe that were what they were. Colin Firth played M. Darcy to perfection and there was nothing you could do but fall in love with his brooding pride and curse Lizzy for her seeming idiot behaviour. Well at least I can say that I was in Love with Mr. Darcy WAY before I saw his Estate. I truly think that this movie should be watched and appreciated for the piece of Cinematic Art that it is. Five Stars and more for this one...... and a plea for more more more!!

Summary: Brilliant material - shame about the picture quality
Review: This mini-series, produced by the BBC and A&M network, is quite simply the best of its genre ever produced. The electricity and tension between the two main characters is impossible to miss, resulting in a period drama which will satisfy the most ardent fans of romantic fiction. It quite simply should not be missed. Unfortunately, the picture quality is very disappointing being only on par with a good quality VHS recording. This is inexcusable given the quality of the original broadcast. So is it worth buying on DVD, rather than the less expensive VHS version? Yes. This is a superb production of a timeless love story, an you will watch it again and again. DVD is the only format that will keep the performance fresh for years and years to come.

Summary: Absolutely beautiful adapation of Jane Austen's novel
Review: I've seen several versions of Pride and Predudice, and none of them can compare to the A&E production. The novel literally springs to life, and my appreciation and understanding of the novel has grown a hundred-fold. I'd rate this six out of five stars.
