Rating: Summary: INCONSISTANT IMAGE QUALITY - STILL FUNNY! Review: "The Best Of Abbott & Costello Vol 2" effectively gathers together the films that made up the middle of Bud and Lou's tenure at Universal Studios. Highlights on this two disc edition include the whimsical "The Time Of Their Lives" - in which Bud plays a doctor who's haunted by the ghost of Lou because of a 16th century grudge; "Here Come The Co-Eds" - the boys are caretakers at Bixby College, an all girl's school and "Hit The Ice" - the boys take off to Sun Valley for skiing. We also get a handful of awful films. "The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap" in which Lou gets abused by almost everyone in the cast, and "The Naughty Nineties" - the only salvation from this film being that Bud and Lou perform their legendary 'Who's On First' skit. (*Footnote: 'Who's on First' is performed in a truncated version in "One Night In The Tropics" also. That film is available on "The Best Of...Vol. One".) THE TRANSFERS: Over all, a mixed bag in image quality. While some films like "The Time of Their Lives" exhibit little to no age related artifacts, others like "The Wistful Widow..." have not worn well at all. At its worst you will get a transfer riddled in age related artifacts, minor edge enhancement, misregistration and considerable film grain. At its best, the picture quality is outstanding - leading me to think that some of these transfers were blessed with a meticulous digital restoration, while others got shafted. The audio for all the films is MONO but very nicely presented. EXTRAS: None. Sorry, fans. BOTTOM LINE: This is definitely one for your home video library. You get 8 reasons why Bud and Lou reigned supreme as the yuk-meisters of comedy during their hey-day!
Rating: Summary: HHHHHeeeyyyyyyy Abbbbboooootttttt Review: (...)I like Abbott and Costello and they have many funny scenes in all their movies. "In Society" has many good gags including their "Go Ahead and Blow The Horn" routine and their plumbers routine in trying to fix the bathroom leak. One of the movies in the set which is often overlooked as one of their best is the "Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap". This film is very humorous in the fact that no one wants kill or harm Lou Costello in the western town for the fear of inheriting the widow (who is obviously not that attractive and has a mouth/and call that could be heard for miles). This gives Costello the edge in order to act tough and not have to worry about the consequences. All the movies were transferred flawlessly and the pictures are sharp. Good amount of movies for the price.
Rating: Summary: A great follow-up to volume 1!!! Review: A perfect compliment to the first volume and a must have to any A&C fan (and at a better price than vol 1). This should keep you up in laughter for hours (however, I do not know of the quality of the video transfer). Disc 1 - Hit the Ice, In Society, Here Comes the Coeds, The Naughty Nineties.Disc 2- Little Giant, The Time of Their Lives (my personal favorite), Buck Private Come Home, The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap, A&C Meet Jerry Seinfeld. Sit back, relax and enjoy the laughter...
Rating: Summary: An Enduring Piece of Comedy History Review: Abbott and Costello are as pure an example of the American burlesque comedy tradition as ever made it into the wider popular culture. Their films are a priceless warehouse for broad comedy of the "straight man/patsy" school, and that's reason enough to own this package. While the films on volume one in this series are superior to these titles, eight films for the price of one make this an unbelievable bargain. Hardcore fans will want to check out "Meet Frankenstein" and the available episodes of their very characteristic TV show for more laughs and a deeper glimpse into the kinds of routines that made your grandfather laugh. While Costello is terrific, the real revelation of watching these films is how brilliant Abbott was -- perhaps the greatest straight man ever, and certainly undervalued by those who think punchlines exist without set-ups. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: COSTELLO'S THE MAN Review: Another blockbuster when it comes to great movies in bulks like costello. Costello will be a "BIG HIT" with every Volume. The Distributors will hit mega bucks making all these movies available for diehard Costello fans. They picked the right time to do this. Costello is awsome. I can't wait for more future Volumes to come out. I would pay even $50.00 for these sets of 8 movies per box. Way to go. Get them, because once they stop producing them it will be rare and hard to find.

Rating: Summary: GREAT collection...FLAWED disc! Review: Another wonderful collection of films at a bargain price, but as with Vol. I there are quality issues. Halfway through 'In Society' the picture "decomposed" and the action froze; obviously a flawed DVD. Unfortunately I'll have to take it back tomorrow and hope that the replacement will be OK. Universal really needs to start caring about the quality of its releases. They could take a lesson from MGM who doesn't let a bad print/flawed DVD get away!
Rating: Summary: Hopefully as good as Volume One Review: Five stars for long overdue and hoping it's as great a job as Universal did with "Best of Abbott & Costello Volume 1". The transfers and packaging are great for Volume 1!!! One thing, though. According to the manufacturer's website there is no mention of this Volume 2 set including "Abbott & Costello Meet Jerry Seinfeld". Where did this bit of information originate? It makes more sense to possibly include that in a later volume along with "The World of Abbott & Costello". But I guess we'll see. And will the planned Volume 3 possibly include "A & C Meet Frankenstein"? That's already available on it's own as a single DVD with lots of extras? As is "A & C Meet the Mummy" but without as many extras. At any rate; just keep them coming Universal!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Transfer, Great Packaging... GREAT COMEDY! Review: I can't tell you how happy I was to open this package and dig inside. Universal has done an outstanding job once again. They made every effort to get the best possible prints of the films, and to offer them in the best possible packaging. These films are a real treasure. There are EIGHT classic Abbott and Costello films for under $20! Each of the eight are classics, and I remember each one fondly.
Rating: Summary: a classic and classy duo Review: I grew up watching Abbott & Costello with my father and I very much so think that today's comedien's do not compare when it comes to beautiful slapstick comedy. The only drawback is that they seem to only be putting out certain movies, and not including all such as Rio Rita, It Ain't Hay, and I'm sure more to come. Hopefully at some point every single movie will be released on dvd format!
