Rating: Summary: Great movie, marginal extras, PS2 problems Review: Heathers remains a whip-smart satire, with a sharp eye to teenage cruelty and a dark heart that only lets up in its compromised finale (the DVD's extras include the screenplay pages for its original ending, which is more true to the tone and themes of the movie).Buying the collector's tin seems a little dubious considering that the content extras, like the documentary "Swatch Dogs and Diet Coke Heads" is available on the regular DVD. The bonuses seem to be in the packaging: a tin box, a "Heathers Rules" ruler, and a 24-page booklet with clips and quotes from the movie. The other problem here is that the DVD seems unwilling to play in the PlayStation 2 (it always prompts a "Cannot read the disc" error), though it works fine in my Mac G4 Cube with Mac OS X. Since PS2 has problems with other DVDs, it's hard to say whether this is Anchor Bay's problem or Sony's.
Rating: Summary: GREAT.... BUT... Review: I love the movie. I love that a special edition with a bunch of extra features has been released. I HATE THAT THE DVD IS DAMAGED--- will their be a recall? I've returned it once and the second one was just as bad. I want this as part of my DVD collection, but don't feel like owning a copy that jumps, skips and stops.
Rating: Summary: One of the best screenplays ever written brought to life Review: so amazingly well. "Heathers" came out in 1989, and I was 20 years old then. Even though I was technically out of my teen years, I totally could appreciate this movie as it had some of the wittiest and most original dialogue ever to come out of any movie, especially a movie of the "teen" genre. Not only is the screenplay the bomb, but the acting is superb. Winona Ryder and Christian Slater have an amazing chemistry together, and they both truly carry this movie. This is deemed to be one of the true classic movies of all time, in my honest opinion, even now, 12 years later and I am now in my 30's, I still love love love this movie!!!! I just bought the dvd, and watched the film with the running audio commentary from the writer,(You rock, Daniel Waters!I'd love to see you write Heathers 2, just as Winona has been asking), the director,Michael Lehmann, and the very cheery producer, Denise Di novi. It gives you real insight into the making of the film watching it this way. I didn't realize it had been made on such a small budget. The movie itself is a great hour and a half of film. Like i said, it has some of the best dialogue to ever spring from the lips of actors. It's fairly intelligent, and I think people of all different age groups can appreciate the humour, the story, and the message that the story conveys. If anyone knows where to find the screenplay for this movie, I'd love to hear from you. I've been looking for it on line, and have had no luck thus far. This is definitely worth buying for those die hard fans of this film. Their are some extras on it such as the 30 minute "swatch dogs and diet coke heads", and the original ending of the screenplay, only in writing, it was never ok'd to be filmed. So for the fans of the film, the dvd is worth purchasing. For those just looking for something different, with comedic momments, although dark at times, and a truly unique screenplay, rent this film. It is worth at least one look...
Rating: Summary: Gliched DVD - Be Warned! Review: Beautiful, witty film. Unfortunately... I bought this DVD. Due to gliches, I exchanged it, and again it still is defective. Be warned. It could happen to you...
Rating: Summary: Awesome movie, awful DVD Review: My review of the movie: Heathers is an absolutely amazing movie. Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Lisanne Falk, Kim Walker (R.I.P.), and Shannen Doherty, among others, make an incredible cast. I love the classic 80s dialogue, like, "It'll be really very," and the concept of witchy popular girls ruling the local high school is easy to identify with in any decade. Although this movie might raise a few eyebrows in today's post-Columbine times, viewers who understand the pure fantasy of this movie will appreciate its cynical commentary on teenage angst. Winona plays Veronica Sawyer perfectly, proving how much talent she had even in 1989, the year this film was released. Christian Slater, as many point out, does an excellent Jack Nicholson impression while portraying the rebellious Jason Dean. His mannerisms and voice make J.D. a strangely compelling character that one simultaneously identifies with and reviles. Walker, the main Heather, is the quintessential popular snot who gets her kicks by torturing those less beautiful and highly-regarded than her. Kim's performance makes viewers yearn for Heather Chandler's demise and support Veronica's attempts to dethrone her as the reigning queen of Westerberg High. Doherty and Falk, as Heather Duke and Heather McNamara, inspire both loathing and pity as their characters evolve during the course of this film. Heathers combines humor, irony, ideological views espoused by J.D., and an intriguing plotline to create a movie that's enjoyable even through many, many repeat viewings. Movies with the dark humor and wit this film presents are few and far between these days. If you're looking for one of today's standard low-brow, uninspired movies filled with slapstick comedy, one-dimensional characters, and endless scatological jokes (i.e. bathroom humor), skip Heathers. Otherwise, check out this wonderful film that raises many questions about society both in and outside high school and is still amazingly relevent over a decade after its theatrical release. My review of the DVD: Do not, under any circumstances, purchase the DVD. When I heard Heathers was being released in a special collector's edition tin, I immediately purchased it from Amazon.com. However, when I attempted to play it in my standard DVD player, the disc would not play. Period. No matter how many times I tried, I just couldn't get the DVD to work. My player kept reporting that it "cannot play discs of this format." Exactly what format this DVD might be is beyond me. I own about 40 DVDs, and I've never, ever had a problem running any of them. My DVD player is of good quality; it's a popular name-brand player, not some obscure brand of which one could be suspicious. Needless to say, I am sorely disappointed that I can't watch this awesome movie in all its digital glory. Like other reviewers have suggested, I advise prospective buyers to hold off on buying this DVD and just purchase the VHS video. Sure, VHS tapes are a pain, seeing as they must be rewound and can't quickly skip through scenes and such, but my VHS copy has never refused to play! I suggest waiting until a better, non-defective edition of the Heathers DVD comes out.
Rating: Summary: Heathers DVD Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!! I exchanged my three times due to defects, the one I have now still does not work. (...) The disk won't even load. (...) Too bad, it's such a great movie. (...)
Rating: Summary: Greetings and Salutations! Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said? This film has got to be one of the best ever made. It deals with so many feelings that all teenagers must go through and for once, complettly slates the "in" crowd. You can't get much better than that! JD is a complete psycho, yet you feel yourself identifing with him and his rather strange Marxist theories on life. If you haven't seen this, you really don't know what your missing!!
Rating: Summary: Teen dark comedy Review: A high school satire at its best. It is a bit dark for a comedy. Athough heartfelt in its cause, the movie doesn't beckon to be taken seriously considering it revolves around teen suicide. Great for Winona Ryder fans!
Rating: Summary: Faulty dvd Review: I seem to have had the same problem as a few other's. I was looking forward to this only to find that it wouldn't play on any of my player's (3), Anchor bay recalled opera so why are they not acknowleging the problem with this.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie - Doesn't Play on My Sony Review: This a great dark teenage comedy - probably one of the best with a great cast that came into its own over the next few years. However, My copy will not play on my 1 year old Sony DVD player. This problem is showing up more and more so be careful.
