Rating: Summary: Deserves more acclaim. Review: Just because Loser has none of the raunchiness of American Pie, Road Trip, and Scary Movie doesn't mean you need to hate it immediately. This is a very charming romantic comedy that features excellent chemistry between the leads, Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari. Both of them deliver immensely appealing performances, making this film truly a winner.
Rating: Summary: Great romantic/comedy. Review: Loser is a great romantic/comedy, featuring two fine performances from Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari, both of whom have sizzling chemistry together. The movie works mostly because we want these two to get together by the end. This is much better than any Freddie Prinze, Jr. flick.
Rating: Summary: Jason Biggs: You still are a loser Review: this movie is downright awful. The jokes are immature, and not funny. Jason Biggs seems to have the same redundant role in every movie he is in. I hope the public gets tired of his movies so we won't have to be subjected to his crap anymore, unfortunatley columbia decided to release Savin Silverman, another piece of garbage by Jason Biggs
Rating: Summary: As entertaining as watching glue dry Review: The title is just too apropos. Loser is a loser of a film, and I'm by no means surprised that it ended up on several critics' "Worst of 2000" lists. Let's start with the cast. Jason Biggs is an okay actor, but the question is how difficult is it to act like a bafoon and trip repeatedly? His talent is not rare in Hollywood. And then there is the sinfully overrated Mena Suvari, who portrays Dora with all the depth and range of a kindergarten student. She's not that attractive and she certainly has yet to prove that she can act. Third, Greg Kinnear is way too talented to be in Loser. His work in As Good As It Gets is almost marred by his tepid efforts in this goobled gurk. Second, the characters are a tad too one-dimensional for my taste. While writer/director Amy Heckerling makes it painfully obvious that Paul's roommates are the real losers, she also exposes the fact that she knows very little about college life. Drinking games played while watching Rhoda reruns? Not at my university. Also, Dora and Paul have zero chemistry. Sadly, most of the relational focus is shifted towards Dora and her teacher (Kinnear). Their relationship almost makes more sense because of the undue attention it receives. Finally, the movie is just plain awful. The writing stems from the seventh circle of cliche Hell, the directing is abominably unimaginative, and the actors play dumb, almost as if they're hoping that their next respective projects will be winners.
Rating: Summary: a great film Review: this is really great movie I really enjoyed this movie alot I feel that jason and mena have such great chemistry and they work real well together this movie is even better then american pie and you will love this movie I guarantee it especially if you engoy mrena suvavi and jason biggs films so in closing this is a grat film some movie reviewers said thet did not like it because of the content in the films mainly mwna character dora getting date raped and the fact that she is dating her college proofessor but comeone this stuff does happen and society and it especially happen to mant college students so if you enjoy a real life comedy this is the film for you otherwise avoid this film
Rating: Summary: not a teen flick Review: I think to appreciate this film it's good to have a little life experience. It may not be Art, it may not be a comedy, it may not even be for teens, but it's kind of sweet. It's about the difference between the student who genuinely cares for the character played by Suvari and the professor who does not--and, to a lesser extent, why she doesn't get it. The heroine, Suvari, could easily be mislabeled, written off by others, as a loser: "bridge and tunnel", naieve for dating her professor, a teeny-bopper with bad taste, whatever but she's real and smart. In some ways this movie is painful to watch because the hero and heroine are made fun of or used by other people: perhaps that explains the discomfort or disappointment of some of the reviewers. It isn't easy being young and poor in the big city but, in this movie at least, love conquers adversity and corruption.
Rating: Summary: Boreing Review: This movie was really boreing! Don't buy it! If you have to see it rent it.
Rating: Summary: As if this story was based on me. Review: I'm a Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari fan. I heard about this movie from my nephew who just simply said Biggs is in it. Well, after seeing it all the way through, it totally touched me. I saw myself there being portrayed as an "innocent, naive yet honest" young kid back in high school. Not to sound selfish, but it's happened to all of us. Biggs' character touched me and almost made me sobbed when his big plan with Suvari's character, as in pizza and a movie night, went caput. Imagine how much anxiety, excitement and the glow Paul Tannek a.k.a Biggs had while he prepared for a really beautiful moment. It's something I did with a girlfriend only to find out that my heart broke when I found her with someone else. That wasn't really cool. Anyway, this movie is one of the greatest feel-good flicks I've ever seen. A permanent conversation piece within my friends. Amy Heckerling's first "drama" so to speak that really touches and warms the heart. Oh yeah, the video bonus was filmed at my high school in Los Angeles which also served as the backdrop for "Clueless".
Rating: Summary: sweet, feel good movie Review: I did not expect much from this movie when I started watching it but halfway through it, I just fell in love with the characters and the story. The relationship between the two main characters was really sweet and innocent but not in a mushy kind of way. Even the "bad guys" weren't portrayed outlandishly bad. It was such a surprisingly delightful piece of work. Something I would watch on a Sunday evening to cap the weekend off.
