Summary: Brilliant Comedic Endeavor!
Review: This often underrated comedic work took me by surprise. One could easily compare this story of pursuit of sexual liberation to be a blissful offshoot of F. Scott Fitzgerald's jazz age works, most notably "The Great Gatsby." Being that the film was produced in the early 1980s, I suspect that "Porky's," the haven of sensual pleasures, and it's owner are based on the Ozymandius rise and fall of Steve Rubell and Studio 54. Dan Monahan's peppy virgin portrays a character not unlike Gatsby, only his pursuit throws out Gatsby's angst and strives for a more generized bliss. The sexual overtones are handled tactfully, gentle as Rod McKuen's post Beat poetry. Despite no specific references to car races, the surreal diversity in Cardonic hues is reminiscent of the 1960s production trend known as "Speedcolor." Enjoyable for mature adults on many levels. Much of the humor is up front, but view Porky's several times;there are many subtle laughs that you will catch via repeated viewings! Splendid hit disguised as a summer teen romp!

Summary: The ORIGINAL American Pie
Review: Still one of the best and raunchiest coming-of-age comedies ever produced, even after all these years. It has a few moral messages but lots of pure American sex-driven comedy. Follow these sex-crazed teens through there jaunt out to Porky's, in the backwoods of Florida, to finally become "men", and back again when they finally seek revenge on Porky himself. Porky's is the ORIGINAL American Pie! This is one movie that belongs in everyone's DVD collection.

Summary: Not very funny
Review: I know that there are a lot of people who disagree, but this video doesn't cut it. It is simply a teen exploitation film put together by a bunch of adults with actors in their early twenties pretending to be high school kids. Even the famous revenge scene seems forced and takes forever to happen.

Okay, if I'm going to dump on it, what do I think is better? Try "Hollywood Knights," once the price comes down out of the stratosphere. It's full of the good-natured obscene humor that is the American high school experience.

Summary: Completely boring!
Review: I saw this movie on HBO along time ago hoping that it would be good. But it wasn't it was really dumb. It's about a couple of guys who sees naked girls in the showers. If you want to see a funny movie go rent American Pie which is better than this trashy movie. Porky's is rated R. It looks more like an NC-17 movie to me.

Summary: If you didn't laugh...seek help
Review: While this is purely an escapist film it has to be funnier than 90% of those just mentioned on the AFI top 100 comedy movies. I don't know or care to know who or how they were rated because you know it was all political. This movie has several classic scenes that are so funny that it appears that the actors were caught off guard and were laughing along with the audience. Need a good laugh to get away from things for awhile then this movie would be a great start.

Summary: Not that funny even for sex-crazed maniacs
Review: I am ashamed to say I actually saw this first in a theatre as a teen (well it was a matinee so it could have been worse). As an average sex-crazed teen (well more like a sex-crazed nerd I'm afraid) I enjoyed the abundant nudity and sexual themes but even then thought the humor was awful. Calling this sophomoric insults all sophomores.

This is the story of a group of teens appearing to be in their late twenties and their varied attempts to have sex. There are also some adults attempting to have sex while other adults are trying to prevent the sex from occuring (a trend perhaps?). There are also subplots about getting revenge on a bar owner named Porky and something about people of different religions and beliefs being more understanding (say what? Was this thrown in to make it socially relevant? Valuable nudity time was wasted). The humor is truly awful - I probably could have written this script and that's quite an insult.

Anyway, when I first saw it there were folks busting a gut and rolling in the aisles - from the looks of other reviews there are still folks who may find this film funny. For the rest, make sure your fast forward button is working.

Summary: Get your pause and rewind button ready
Review: This movie is about a group of teen friends growing up in a small town Southern high school. Porky's is a bar in the backwoods. There are some funny parts. The best part of the movie that makes it worth buying is the peeping scene in the girls' shower, which I rewound again and again. The writing is okay and the acting is good. The lighting and sound were excellent and the extras did a fantastic job!

Summary: still funny
Review: what made this film work was that there were no major stars and the actors had to pull it off with the script they had.and they did.this film has been very influential.think of many of the late 90's high school comedys.or a film like something about Mary.this film pre-dates the things we see on Wrestling&the Jerry Springer show.very cleaver film at the time.

Summary: The right wing propaganda that is Porky's.
Review: Having known and loved the movie "Porky's" for well over 14 years now, I was recently able to watch the film with a new and fresh perspective. First off, let's take a look at the story, it's protagonists and antagonists. On the surface the film is nothing more than the raunchy good time about a bunch of kids trying their darndest to get into girls pants and the hijinks that ensue. Great premise, the movie made a mint, and unfortunately spawned 2 bad sequels. But what interested me most recently was how the idea of Porky and his fellow antagonists was handled in comparison to the "gang" of kids. What did Porky represent? Liberalism. He ran a brothel and gambling facility, two establishments illegal in most areas of the country for rather conservative reasons, and he ran it in an area hidden away from most of the population, making it attractive it to those on the fringe. What harm was Porky really reaking on Society? None. His patrons seemed to be having a good time and things got a little rowdy every now and then, but for the most part these activities are plain and simple human vices, not unlike those society deems legal. All of a sudden a group of clean cut conservative boys, not of age, decide to check "Porky's" out. They're outsiders in this area, and dangerous outsiders at that. They represent everything Porky stands against: the establishment. So when Porky decides to teach these boys a lesson, causing absolutely no harm whatsoever other than embarassment and a few bucks out of their pockets, the pride of the establishment is threatened. What happens when the establishment is threatened by outside forces? The outside forces are promptly destroyed. Porky seems to be a patient man, giving these boys a chance to go back to where they came from, but when pushed he shoves back. Is this reason to destroy his livlihood as the boys did in the final act? Is this reason to celebrate in the end? WE showed those BAD people whose RIGHT. Porky's, if looked at objectively, tells a tale much deeper than it's surface hijinks. That being said, the movie's a riot. The shower scene is classic.

Summary: Great Teen Movie
Review: Porky's is a great movie it has everything you could want, stripers, sex, laughs, violence, and some action. When I fist saw the movie on basic cable I thought it was one of the funnest movies I had ever seen. But when I saw the movie on video I loved it because I showed things they had cut out and did not do voice overs. This movie is so great it could take on American Pie anytime.
